Thirteen trees bare root, six vines and counting. 20+ blackberries bare root, 7 raspberries bare root and about 30 strawberries bare root. The strawberries already have leaves and are flowering if that counts as floral plant 😜 raspberries are all leafing out. I cut down my front yard tree, someone without a brain planted a soon to be gigantic southern live oak next to the house and I searched long and far at ornamental replacements and ended up replacing it with a non fruit bearing ornamental peppermint peach tree, google for photos of the flowers, and that was also a bare root tree so makes it 14 trees so far. The trees are all budding so we will see this season how they do. The vines and berries are all growing fine so those roots took. The trees I treat with liquid root growth promoting drenches to help them get more roots in the ground before the punishing Texas summer sun arrives.

I planted 4 bare root peonies last fall and 3 look like they're going grow. I had 10 lupines and and I think I'm only going to lose the one in a pot the squirrels thought belonged to them😁. I recently purchased some big blue hosta bare roots but nothing yet, high hopes though for them to fill a bare space. It always feels risky to purchase bare roots online, but so far it's worked out ok. Your peony root is huge and with all those eyes showing up after soaking (which is a great step to remember), you should end up with quite a plant. Can't wait to see all the new growth this summer!

Those are gonna be great. I can't belive how much they want for potted peonies, its crazy. I don't care about varieties so I've been lucky enough to buy mine at the local Horticultural societies plant sales for like $5 each

Yet another timely video! I picked up 2 bare root clematis from big box stores and plan on planting one of them up with my climbing rose. I figure for such a small investment, it’s worth a try! Can’t wait to see how your bare roots bloom! 💐

I've never tried bared root plants, but I was looking at some yesterday at Lowe's and passed them up because I wasn't sure what to do with them or if they would be successful. Your video was exactly what I needed for encouragement to go back and give them a try. Soaking them to hydrate the roots was a great tip. Also, reading about the success from other comments on here was an inspiration.

Amanda, I did not know about hydrating the roots and that seems to be important information. I don't know if that instruction was in fine print and I missed it, or if the packaging did not provide full care instructions. I did not grow up in a gardening family and I do not know this sort of thing intuitively.

+Kathryn Mettelka I have found that it is rarely on the packaging. The instructions are always super basic and generic.
