I planted a red maple tree a few days ago. It’s 2 inches tall and it’s growing a second pair of leaves! And I think it’s called a red maple because they turn red in spring. Where I live in Connecticut there’s tuns of red maples that turn red in spring, and you can tell them apart from sugar maples this way because sugar maples look completely different than red maples in spring.

Been 8 months now, any progress on that beautiful tree? My neighbor's was so beautiful I just bought one. I got my Maple red from the Arbor foundation and no dirt comes with it just a stick and some roots wrapped in a moist gel for shipping. Instruction just just what you did there making hole twice as wide as pot, to break up native soil so roots can spread out no additional dirt or compost to add. My soil is hard red clay here on the gulf so it is like brick. I had to use a pick axe. They said to cover mound after good watering with 2" of mulch to nourish and protect the tree from drought and freeze. Do not cover tree stem above soil, keep mulch away from stem.

I made an update video on the color change. The leaves turned yellow but sadly no red. Maybe next year! They are such beautiful trees!

@@JackSpellerberg What is the name of your red maple tree? Can I plant a Japanese maple (or whichever small maple tree) in a container and then submerge/bury the container (with the tree in it) in the ground? The reason for this is because my HOA requires one tree to be planted in the ground (front of house), not exposed pots, and I wanted to keep my tree small and slow growth, without roots spreading underground massively and affecting my home foundation.

I agree. At some point, that tree is going to push that line beyond its limits. Even about 5 feet away is not enough. Just hope it doesn’t cause too much of a problem for you but I’m sure it’s going to down the road.

Do not plant a tree like this. The top of the root flare where the trunk starts should be slightly above grade, not in a hole where it will drowned and die.
