Absolutely wear your hat! I HATE WEARING A HAT when I work in my garden. I hated having surgery on my nose to remove skin cancer even more. Wearing a hat in my hot, humid southeastern NC summer makes me incredibly hot. The alternative to wearing a hat is way worse. Cute hat by the way.

I had Mohs surgery to remove cancer from my nose! Not a pretty sight (it healed well, though), but worth it to be cancer-free. I recommend wearing sunscreen (some make-up and moisturizers have 30 spf) and a hat (these can also be found with sun protection!). Avoid the sun between 10 and 4, and try to stay in the shade if you have to be outside then. :)

So glad you are going to put your Lyda Rose in the landscape. I worried about it’s placement when you put it in the cutting garden because mine (at least 20 years old) is about ten feet tall and wide. 😂 And absolutely gorgeous! One of my favorites.

I’m really hot natured and wear a crownless hat! It also gives me room to put my hair in a top bun - way too much hair to leave it down and can’t stand a braid swinging around. Lol I’m one of those who could never leave it down like Laura but respect her choice, and hers is always pretty - not a frizz ball like mine would be here in Tennessee! 🤪

As a Master Gardener here just north of Atlanta, one of the projects I worked on was at a local botanical garden in the Rose bed. Once a week several us would go thru and prune/deadhead, and do general cleanup. It was one of my favorite projects ever - I loved being among the many different varieties and fragrance. Very theraputic and good for soul. Your garden is an absolute oasis for you, friends & family - and I am most grateful you have chosen to share it all with us. Thanks for the info, encouragement and inspiration !!!

When things are slow ( sometime) Would you, or Aaron , or Paul do a video of how you store all drills, bits, batteries, tools, in the barn. I know parts have been shown but with more and more of us viewers learning how much easier the job is with the correct tools, and getting the battery powered drills for "house, yard jobs" etc. It would help a lot. THANK YOU. Stay cool during this heat wave.

Word of warning: it doesn’t matter how strong you think you are, pulling trees or dead shrubs out of the ground can tear your rotator cuffs if you are not careful. Snug your elbows to your sides and pull with your leg muscles, or better yet, always use a shovel. Rotator cuff surgery is not fun. I had both done years ago.

I had to get use to wearing a hat after getting skin cancer on my face in my mid-30's. Now I wear a hat every time I go outside for any length of time. I find that straw hats, though pretty, make my head sweat too much. My favourite hat for gardening is made by Outdoor Research. They are comfortable, breathable, and dries quickly when wet which is perfect as I also wear it in the pool.

I live in Montana and I always wear a hat to garden so I'm so glad to see you wear one. The effect of the sun on your face over time ages the skin and the possibility of skin cancer is no joke. Nice to see you wearing a hat Laura. Keeps the top of one's head from frying in the sun. Not to mention the sun damage to your hair, face and neck. I've used sun block for years. But it took wearing a hat to help with the tremendous damage from the sun that my poor hair endured. The sun bleaches it and causes hair to become brittle and break. My hairbrush would just be full of broken hair. It takes a very long time and many treatments to somewhat restore it after years of abuse. To me, getting use to wearing a hat was just as difficult as getting use to wearing gardening gloves. But definitely worth it!!

Laura you mentioned you know wearing a hat is good for your skin and the top of your head but the one you have is hot, please don’t give up looking for the right one Amazon has tons of styles and materials to choose from and the prices are very reasonable. The one I finally found has a built in sunblock and a mesh top, it also has a draw string on it that bugs the heck out of me so I tie it to the top of the hat I don’t want to cut it off because there are some windy days here in Michigan and it comes in handy (especially since don’t like chasing it down the road when a good wind tries to take it from me😂😂). Don’t give up👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻The rose garden looks fabulous 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🥰🥰🥰🍸🍸🍸

Laura, I wear a light weight canvas mesh Safari hat by Scala. The mesh sidewall helps keep me cool. I’ve had it for years now and find that I can’t garden without it! I hand wash it occasionally too. Crushproof too! I would highly recommend it. Kids need to wear hats too, with a wide brim that shades the top of their ears. From a big fan that loves your gardening family and videos!

Ms. Laura, I enjoy watching your videos from Texas Gulf Coast. This week I truly appreciate when you show the not so good in the garden. You are the reason I started gardening in 2020. This summer was the first time my memorial garden was my favorite and it’s best look. That was until Hurricane Beryl. My fence fell on my garden and it has sustained damage. But I’m not upset because I’ve learned plants are resilient and I will prune them and they will bounce back. Watching your videos have helped take my mind off the devastation my city is going through right now. I know Aaron love trees but I have also witnessed 50+ year old trees being uprooted out of the ground and trees falling on top of houses. Just know you are lifting my spirits and I thank you.

Glad you’re protecting yourself. My Hubs died last year from melanoma at only 59 yo. 💔 I hope you do some smaller size flower arrangements soon.

59 is so young to die deom skin cancer. I know it can be very aggressive. I regret all my early beachy days of no protection.

Thank you for the detail instructions for pruning the roses. Was familiar with 5 leaves but didn't know about the direction of the leaves dictating the direction of the next growth.

Hello! First time commentor, We live in Southern Rhode Island in a forest, sometimes like a real life terrarium. White pines are EVERWHERE and when they look like yours does, it's the Turpentine Beetle. Maybe this helps. You might need to add a bandanna/hat band to your hat regime. I should take my own advice.😊 Now off to shop your store!

Everything is beautiful and so well maintained. Great job. The hat is a good idea since the sun is treacherous these days. I don't know how you keep bugs and stuff off with your hair always down but I guess everyone has there own way of staying comfortable! Take care!

Love the hat Laura! You do such a great job at protecting your skin, your face is just as important! I have been watching your channel since your condo. In 2020 we had to remove our inground swimming pool, sad but not sad as it gave me a yard to become a gardener, your knowledge that you have passed on to us is invaluable! I still enjoy watching as there are always things to learn :)

Linda Dorough Dixon/Mountain Park, Georgia/ Well, I called Andrews Seed Store today to ask about the auger digging piece. I went to Home Depot and they could not help me..i need it by tomorrow so I called and Monica answered..Didnt recognize her voice at first...When I did I told her I watch you all everyday and love the show... we finally found the drill and the auger.. Enjoyed speaking to Monica.. Your mom was out running errands...

Laura, it's so good to see you protecting yourself with a hat. But, I know what you mean about it being hot. I have several gardening hats that, for lack of a better description, are like roll-up brims. In other words, there is no middle. These types of hats are cooler and customizable to your head size. They also can roll up for compact storage.

Good morning! The rose garden is so pretty with all that color. With the deadheading it looks so much better. I don’t like wearing hats for the same reason you don’t, it’s hot. It is better for your skin.
