Plant Teachers: Tobacco & Ayauasca with Jeremy Narby

First launched on www.n2k.world
Jeremy Narby, anthropologist and author of the Cosmic Serpent, is back with a new book, Plant Teachers: Ayahuasca, Tobacco, and the Pursuit of Knowledge. Leila Conners catches up with Jeremy in a discussion that compares scientific western concepts with Amazonian indigenous concepts of the natural world. Both these systems of thought are closer to each other than one would expect if one approaches these plants and their Amazonian interlocutors with an open mind.

I've been growing and selling tobacco seed for years. The naturally occurring plant is quite a lot different from cigarettes which people usually associate with tobacco. Most cigarettes are not composed of organic tobacco but a stew of various chemicals. Home grown organic tobacco is a world apart from the garbage you buy in the store. Its a good meditative aid, has health uses and can be used for a bug repellent as well.

31:15 . . . I like the comment about seeing the world through our world view, and how ayahuasca shows us our world view. Thanks for this interesting video! I love the book!

We Navajo use what we call mountain tobacco in our ceremonies and is not the commercial tobacco which we do consider the real tobacco given to us by the Holy People. This mountain tobacco is obtained on the 4 sacred mountains that define our lands in the Southwestern US. or the 4 corners area. This tobacco can very used by yourself in prayer or in ceremony.
