Plant-Based Diet & Kidney Disease

Ойын-сауық

What is a plant-based diet? And is it good for your kidneys? From the 2022 NephCure Patient Summit, Dr. Shivam Joshi, Clinical Professor and Nephrologist at NYU Langone, discusses the principles of plant-based diets, dietary protein, and how your kidneys may respond to this type of nutrition. He shares research and significant data on plant-based diets and how taking control of your diet may slow the progression of kidney disease.
Chef Duane Sunwold, a professional chef and culinary arts instructor in Spokane and North Idaho, joins Dr. Joshi to share his journey with FSGS and how he took control of his disease through a plant-based diet. He also shares tips and tricks on how to start following a plant-based diet, and resources for cookbooks, recipes, and some of his favorite websites that he uses both personally and professionally.
While Dr. Joshi provides the scientific data on how a plant-based diet can change the trajectory of your disease, Chef Duane offers practical and real-life recommendations on how you can start incorporating more plants into your diet - without losing flavor and variety!

For high cholesterol I take Flax Seed Capsules 1000mg capsules once a 1x day. My cholestrol was 900 and triglycerides of 1100. I started FLAX seed oil, never changed my diet at all. In a month my cholesterol went down to 259 and triglycerides he did not even ta ok about, he was so blown away by the cholesterol. Stations will damage your liver. If your cholestrolis still high, you can add red rice yeast 600mg once a day.

Beans are back on my menu! I'm happy to know that even though beans (and other plant foods) generally contain lots of phosphorus, only 1/3 of it is actually absorbed by the body. This is wonderful news for this bean lover!! By the way, i'm not Indian American, but i agree wholeheartedly that Palaak Paneer is quite delectable.

Only one point of deference. Soy and derived Products like Tempeh and tofu should not be included as healthy food . Soy is modified ( transgenic or Gmo’s) so, from there on, nothing of these products are good. Men may end up with too much estrogen so, abnormal boobs and belly increase is noticeable. For women too much feminine hormone is not better but worse. Well everything has to bee in normal levels to properly function. You did not talk about it, but Same happens with corn, hybridized wheat, to which bromide, a poisonous chemical, has been added instead of iodine. The result , a diabetic causing bread. No FDA to fight for consumers safety on that matter. Thus, Years would pass and new people would not know the damaging chemical that continue to produce diabetic and cause health problems and the industry that gave use to poisonous Bromide is so happy about it.

Can't speak for anyone else, but for me fasting has been GREAT! As of January 2022 I committed to 100% animal based way of eating two meals a day, consuming beef (mostly ribeye or hamburger), butter, bacon, eggs, salmon, and sardines while fasting 16-18 hours every day. This way of eating has reduced the INFLAMMATION and rheumatoid arthritis pain by 80% and as a side benefit I lost all unwanted body fat, running on KETONES instead of carbs/sugar. Absolutely zero kidney issues, only positive results from the CARNIVORE way of LIFE for over 1 year!!!

@Daniel Scarbrough I watched a KZreadr, I think his name was Frankie, and he was all about the Carnivoir diet for a few years. That diet made him feel great for a few years, then he wasn't doing so well in the end. I'm not realy sure what happened but you should probably start introducing plant stuff into your diet. Sprouts are an easy way and I get my seeds from Todd's Seeds. If you don't get enough fiber in your diet, after 45, you may find that you've developed diverticula and are more susceptable to diverticulitis. No fiber weakens the walls of your colon which causes the diverticula. Intermittent fasting is great. 🙂👍

@@dr.c2195 A middle aged woman I know was on the Keto diet and felt great! Lost 10 pounds in a couple of weeks, then gained 20 pounds within a couple of months. To the best of my understanding, intermittant fasting works better as after 12 hours of not eating, your body automatically goes into ketosis and the first fat that is burned is the fat around your liver. I've been doing intermittant fasting since April and have been steadily losing weight and feeling great. I have replaced snacking with plain tea.

Yeah you really should be a pharmaceutical corporation spokes person. You’re doing a fine job leading people into the poor health the corporations love🤑. I stopped eating plant protein and grain. I lost 27 pounds in 10 days , I stopped being hungry all the time ate way less and i had more energy than ever. PS Pizza dough is not animal protein. The lectins in grain are literally punching holes in the small intestine causing microscopic amounts of poo to enter the blood stream. In addition to this the body covers the intestine with mucus to deal with this situation which cause scores of different health problems especially since nutrient absorption is drastically reduced while modern farming has depleted the soil drastically since the 1950’s and the body requires these missing nutrients to process all foods no matter what they are. Thus the ever increase in obesity . When nutrients as well as absorption of them is reduced the body goes into starvation mode. This signals the body to to store fat. Beans have these destructive lectins and replacing meat with them makes the situation worse

Agree 100%. Tried a plant-based diet. Got super sick. I had no energy. There might certain human body types that thrive on plant based diets...but I know very few healthy vegans. Animal protein is a critical requirement for most humans.

@@NoName83201you get more herbicides and pesticides from eating meat. The higher you are up the food chain. If u switch to vegies and beans maybe u can afford organic too.

Why do people have their creatine level go down significantly and their egfr go up significantly on a plant based diet with no animal products?????

I do not need to imagine, as it is reality. Why the "oof", though? Should anything have happened to me? Eggs contain all the nutrients to create a chicken body. That is useless to me, I am not a chicken and I already have a body.

Everything in your presentation is good. Only one point to clear: Soy and derived Products like Tempeh and tofu should not be included as healthy food . Soy is modified ( transgenic or Gmo’s) and from there nothing of these products are good. Men may end up with too much estrogen so, abnormal boobs and belly increase is noticeable. For women too much feminine hormone is not better but worse. Well everything has to bee in normal levels to properly function. Same happens with corn, hybridized wheat, to which bromide, a poisonous chemical, has been added instead of iodine. The result , a diabetic causing bread. No FDA to fight for consumers safety on that matter. So, Years would pass and new people would not know the damaging chemical that continue to produce diabetic and cause health problems and the industry that gave use to poisonous Bromide is so happy about it.

Says that Tofu has improved his cholestrol but what about his LDL? Has that lowered too? most likely not. And keep eating spinach and you'll end up with kidney stones! just a very bias presentation imo.
