PLANNING AUTOMATED ROCKET DELIVERIES - ONI - Spaced Out: Ep. #61 (Oxygen Not Included)

Ойындар

Hello everyone!
Today, we're trying out a few things in the hopes of eventually completely automating the process of shipping water to the second planetoid using rockets. Hope you enjoy!:)
Oxygen Not Included is a space-colony simulation game. Deep inside an alien space rock your industrious crew will need to master science, overcome strange new lifeforms, and harness incredible space tech to survive, and possibly, thrive.

In Oxygen Not Included you’ll find that scarcities of oxygen, warmth and sustenance are constant threats to your colony's survival. Guide colonists through the perils of subterranean asteroid living and watch as their population grows until they're not simply surviving, but thriving...
Just make sure you don't forget to breathe.
Build Extensive Bases and Discover What it Takes to Survive:
Everything in your space colony is under your control, from excavation and resource allocation right down to plumbing and power systems. Resources will begin depleting with your first breath, however, so be sure to dig fast if you want to live.
It’s Mind Over Matter with Stress Simulations:
Keep the psychological impact of survival at bay with fun leisure activities, great accommodations and even better food for your colony. Duplicants each have different and potentially destructive ways of reacting to stress, so be sure to always keep them happy. Whatever the cost.
Avoid Boiling with Thermodynamics:
Temperature control is a constant concern in space; too cold and you'll freeze, too hot and you'll fry. Keep tabs on ambient environmental temperatures and your colony's heat production to maintain a nice, cozy atmosphere for your colonists.
Enhance Efficiency through Complex Gas and Liquid Simulations:
Create interlocking pipe systems to swiftly deliver fuel and liquid to critical areas of your base. Plan well and be rewarded as your colony transforms into an imperishable, well-oiled machine.
Take Charge with Power Grid Simulations:
Choose from a multitude of power sources including coal, hydrogen, natural gas or just plain old elbow grease. Manage power runoff, circuit overloads and meltdowns to keep your colony running smoothly.
Always Keep Yourself Breathing:
Enter the Oxygen Overlay and watch air moving through your base in real-time. Monitor carbon dioxide accumulation and oversee oxygen generation processes to mold your colony into a veritable deep-space oasis.
Waste Nothing through Extreme Recycling:
Make use of every last resource for a base that truly exemplifies efficiency. Recycle waste into precious fuel, process unbreathable gas into air, or harness the natural bodily processes of wild creatures for food. If you’re clever, you might even be able to run a base off colonist farts.
Explore Diverse, Procedurally Generated New Worlds:
Summon new worlds with a push of a button. Experience tons of untamed space rocks, then suffocate to death in them!
-------------------
Spaced Out DLC:
The Duplicants are back again, and this time they're ready to rebuild their colonies from the mysterious remains of a planet torn asunder!
In Oxygen Not Included: Spaced Out! you'll spearhead space missions to new and undiscovered Planetoids, transport resources between bases, and manage multiple worlds on the fly to build a megacolony that not only survives but hopefully, thrives.
New Multi-World Gameplay
Put your colony management skills to the test by juggling the needs of Duplicants in multiple colonies simultaneously. Switch between planets in real-time and secure rare resources on other worlds to supply your home base.
Expanded Rocketry
Customize new modular rockets to your liking, then explore the expanse of space with the newly overhauled Starmap. Huge expansions to the Research Tree provide new mid-game Rocketry options, giving your Duplicants an edge in the asteroid space-race.
New Critters
Get acquainted with some new fuzzy friends - if you're nice, they might help you out around the colony!

You can put the spacefarer module on the bottom of the rocket on top of the engine, this makes it look nicer and also reduces the amount of ladders needed

This also means you don't have to reroute your connections every time you redesign your rocket unless you change engine sizes

The automation ports on the rockets should work like this: 1) The top one detects whether the rocket is landed (already switches to green when the rocket is incoming, even before it touches the platform 2) The left one should do exactly what the "begin launch sequence" does. It can definitely start rockets that are not fully fueled (as long as enough fuel is there for the trip). Maybe it doesn't work for non-round-trips, but that is just a guess. Setting this to green also triggers the boarding of the crew. 3) The right one is only green when every item on the checklist is done, including the boarded crew, which in my opinion makes this one quite useless, unless the crew is intended to stay on the rocket forever. There is a chance that your rocket will immediately start when it lands. Depends on how far the dupe is away from the rocket control station. A simple filter gate after the pipe element detector with a few seconds should make this consistent without any unwanted surprises. If you want to go really funky, let Liam "produce" water and energy locally with his own steam rocket in a bigger rocket silo. A round trip to orbit and back only takes a few seconds and the amount of steam from the rocket exhaust is crazy.

If you make the bed permanent for the dupe then you can use the third automation port, which will turn green when he goes to bed, assuming everything else is ready as well.

A tip for the rocket you could put 2 storage bins in place of the second bed and place the atmo suit docks where the two storage bins were originally just to make so you don't have to micromanage ellie in the rocket😁

"I'm not happy with the current base, and may demolish it all and build it again, in a more 'ultimate' fashion". What, you mean you're gonna destroy it all and build it all again, modified to be better with everything you learned so far? Preposterous, such thing has never been done in this channel (?)

You have gas cargo module on the rocket, maybe you could store some steam there and fill the engine on the oil planet from it.

But why?? u could just set up a boiler on the oil planet and then get water back in net positive manner. and that's more ultimate. If u can't ship water, then make it automatically, so ur duplicant only needs to tend to the oil wells. Compress the extra water in a waterfall and pump it as needed. Basically: launch enough water to make enough oil--> oil to pet/sour gas boiler --> consume resources to make P.H20 --> boil P.H2O to water and steam--> collect hot water to make oil and repeat loop. auto sweep p.dirt... dupe sits back and deals with oil geysers. just saw that you have ethanol on the map. burn that for power and make water. u have tons of it. that's free water waiting to be converted.

I may have missed it, but I think you will need another liquid filter to filter out the oil that will inevitably be pumped up from the very bottom of Crudial. You are, at the moment pumping up the liquid to the top of the map and filtering the water, but I think oil will soon be pumped up to the top of the map as well. Good luck!

Perhaps start explorung the third planet? There are pips and arbor trees, good source of dirt and food (omlettes). Also the 3rd planet ussually has lots of gold amalgam and aluminium, you may need it in your builds

I think you need to toggle the round-trip option when on the home planetoid. As it seems the game is not checking fuel, as you wouldn’t be able to fly back to crudeio with your current fuel level.

If Ellie really does nothing else but live in the rocket from now I think you should make it look nicer. I know it's not really necessary but a nice bed, maybe a phone to pass her downtime :) I like the idea with a atmosuit dock. I actually build it in my newest rocket and if nothing else it save me the trouble of having to unequip the suit all the time.

Maybe a buffer or filter gate form liquid element sensor. Watch it land and use a timer to see how long ot takes to read a water packet, then set your delay to send. It may have to go after not gate also...

Hey Nathan, lovely series. I've played a little the game, but I feel way more enjoyable to look at you doing wonders and being funny, thanks for it! I have a question: why are you dumping gases out of space? Even the oxygen you're producing from the vent (16:34)... Wouldn't it be more convenient to store it for future use (or just leave it where it is...)?

  • @Nathans-Sandbox

    @Nathans-Sandbox

I can't leave the o2 where it is because it would overpressure the vent, I do end up including it into the oxygen system later on.

On your other world it's silly making an oxygen maker that runs 24/7 for 1 Dupe. You're using up water for nothing really. Just make a normal one. When you over pressure is stops. It stops using water. Electrolyzer is using 1000 g/s or water. That a lot of water being using for nothing. 4 oil wells use 4 KG/s. I don't think you can fly enough water faster enough. That's almost a 1/2 a ton of water every second.

  • @Nathans-Sandbox

    @Nathans-Sandbox

You commented this mutliple times and every time I tell you the O2 gen doesn't run 24/7. It only produces as much O2 as the dupe requires.
