FUELING THE PETROLEUM ROCKET - Spaced Out: Ep. #98 (Oxygen Not Included)

Hello everyone!
Today, we're getting everything ready to fuel to petroleum rocket, including an oxylite refinery. Hope you enjoy!:)
Oxygen Not Included is a space-colony simulation game. Deep inside an alien space rock your industrious crew will need to master science, overcome strange new lifeforms, and harness incredible space tech to survive, and possibly, thrive.

In Oxygen Not Included you’ll find that scarcities of oxygen, warmth and sustenance are constant threats to your colony's survival. Guide colonists through the perils of subterranean asteroid living and watch as their population grows until they're not simply surviving, but thriving...
Just make sure you don't forget to breathe.
Build Extensive Bases and Discover What it Takes to Survive:
Everything in your space colony is under your control, from excavation and resource allocation right down to plumbing and power systems. Resources will begin depleting with your first breath, however, so be sure to dig fast if you want to live.
It’s Mind Over Matter with Stress Simulations:
Keep the psychological impact of survival at bay with fun leisure activities, great accommodations and even better food for your colony. Duplicants each have different and potentially destructive ways of reacting to stress, so be sure to always keep them happy. Whatever the cost.
Avoid Boiling with Thermodynamics:
Temperature control is a constant concern in space; too cold and you'll freeze, too hot and you'll fry. Keep tabs on ambient environmental temperatures and your colony's heat production to maintain a nice, cozy atmosphere for your colonists.
Enhance Efficiency through Complex Gas and Liquid Simulations:
Create interlocking pipe systems to swiftly deliver fuel and liquid to critical areas of your base. Plan well and be rewarded as your colony transforms into an imperishable, well-oiled machine.
Take Charge with Power Grid Simulations:
Choose from a multitude of power sources including coal, hydrogen, natural gas or just plain old elbow grease. Manage power runoff, circuit overloads and meltdowns to keep your colony running smoothly.
Always Keep Yourself Breathing:
Enter the Oxygen Overlay and watch air moving through your base in real-time. Monitor carbon dioxide accumulation and oversee oxygen generation processes to mold your colony into a veritable deep-space oasis.
Waste Nothing through Extreme Recycling:
Make use of every last resource for a base that truly exemplifies efficiency. Recycle waste into precious fuel, process unbreathable gas into air, or harness the natural bodily processes of wild creatures for food. If you’re clever, you might even be able to run a base off colonist farts.
Explore Diverse, Procedurally Generated New Worlds:
Summon new worlds with a push of a button. Experience tons of untamed space rocks, then suffocate to death in them!
-------------------
Spaced Out DLC:
The Duplicants are back again, and this time they're ready to rebuild their colonies from the mysterious remains of a planet torn asunder!
In Oxygen Not Included: Spaced Out! you'll spearhead space missions to new and undiscovered Planetoids, transport resources between bases, and manage multiple worlds on the fly to build a megacolony that not only survives but hopefully, thrives.
New Multi-World Gameplay
Put your colony management skills to the test by juggling the needs of Duplicants in multiple colonies simultaneously. Switch between planets in real-time and secure rare resources on other worlds to supply your home base.
Expanded Rocketry
Customize new modular rockets to your liking, then explore the expanse of space with the newly overhauled Starmap. Huge expansions to the Research Tree provide new mid-game Rocketry options, giving your Duplicants an edge in the asteroid space-race.
New Critters
Get acquainted with some new fuzzy friends - if you're nice, they might help you out around the colony!

There's big mistake in the end... While whooping 4 small tanks sounds great, they take 12 spaces to get 36.000 kg capacity, while two large tanks would take 10 spaces to give you 54.000 kg ;-)

Just wanted to share that while petroleum rockets are great for fast, long range travel, in my experience steam rockets are the best for moving liquids between Vivani and Crudiel. Their range is enough and if you set up a kind of container to catch the steam exhaust where they land on Crudiel with a gas pump hooked to the rocket engine it’ll refill completely every time it lands there, which means you won’t have to refuel it ever again. You won’t need the same setup on both planets, as it can make 2 trips before needing a refuel. Can fit two large liquid storage tanks on them too :)

True, that sounds reasonable, I was also thinking that, but now that we have unlimited petroleum I think it doesn't matter too much. But I'm glad to have learned that you can indeed refuel the steam rocket right away with the exhaust steam.

@@Nathans-Sandbox Very true, petroleum’s sorted at this stage. Perhaps for future runs though. It’s super convenient as something you can set up early and just leave it - permanently if you like. Works a treat for Glowani too with carbon dioxide engines. For the chamber though, I make it as tall as the rocket so the exhaust doesn’t disappear into space too quickly. Just has to be wide enough for a gas pump on one side (steel for steam engines) and have the pipes already there so it starts pumping as soon as it lands. I experimented with having doors automatically close to trap in the exhaust but it’s totally unnecessary; there’s WAY more exhaust than you need for one rocket already. The tiles exposed to space need drywall but wallpaper is fine for the rest. Thanks so much for this playthrough; I’ve learnt so much and experimented with things I wouldn’t go near before. Actually, I found this series at a time where I was really struggling (ptsd) and this was so helpful in giving me a chunk of time where I could relax, even for 20 minutes. I’m doing so much better now but won’t forget how much I valued it and still do. Thanks so much Nathan :)

Hey Nathan if you're reading this get some lead suits for your duplicants and put lead tiles lining the reactor. Also the shower significantly helps in radiation. Make sure your dock is near the reactor as they'll significantly slow down

With all training skills, it's only a -2 athletics, compared to regular atmo suits. With these dupes' age, it won't be a significant loss. Freshly printed dupes would be a significant difference, though, as their athletics skill would be minimal in comparison

The large liquid module would hold way more liquid in less space than the small ones. They cost a lot of steel though.

i found when using your design for liam's machine...the first run of it, i had to set the door temp sensor to 350, then slowly step it up more and more until it got to the 410 mark, then it was fine to leave unattended from then on. otherwise i kept ending up with sour gas flashes too :P your conveyor rail.... needs another bridge for the bypass going down :O the packets are skipping the steam room entirely and going directly into the shutoff. not sure how yours managed to come out the other side though but lol at the ones on the floor being at 1067.3°C when they should be under 150° XD

I might be wrong about this, but maybe the automation setup on Crudiel is what is transferring the heat from the first metal tile to the door more efficiently? Since you redid the wiring on Vivani, perhaps that is the reason it acts differently

  • @salemprompthous3820

@@salemprompthous3820 From what I've seen, I believe that they should. Logic gates, such as the filter gate at Crudiel sharing the first metal tile and an insulated tile nearby should transfer heat much like how bridges of all kinds do, simply because they occupy multiple tiles per build

@@Amodh1257 they should, yes I agree, but as I've seen, after 3000+ hours on Steam, the automation wires, bridges and logics don't. They do melt, but only cause they "accept" temp.transferrence, but they don't give it back out.
