Hello friends, finding a planner that works best for you can feel a little daunting. Over the course of 2023 I have experimented with a lot of different planner spreads and layouts and finally found a method to help me be consistent. With so many brands and planner types, it can be so hard to choose the one that works best for you, the hobonichi planners I mentioned are listed below, but feel free to experiment with other comparable notebooks!

I love the idea of trying everything and dropping the things that don’t work. It opens up so many possibilities as to what our journals or planners will look like. So helpful and encouraging. Thanks. 😊

What a great idea to throw everything you might want on a planner page down all at once and then see what does/doesn't work. I feel like that is more effective than simply trying to build up to using all the space; also a great way to get the best of both worlds w/function and creativity. Thanks for the tip and an awesome video!

I used a combination bullet journal and commonplace journal for a couple of years and enjoyed it. Then my job got extremely needy and I switched to strictly functional planning in the jibun techo. It worked well enough considering that I felt forced to use it due to my lifestyle. I look forward to getting back to the bullet/common place journaling style. I really like how you describe a method for logically thinking through a planner decision. I have tried so many planners in the past…even the hobonichi. I think i just prefer 100% freedom.

When you described the person who wants all the structure and little creative space that’s me, and my 2024 lineup is a couple of Weeks and an A6 original😂 Nailed it. I would say that I probably had the right idea in the weeks mega but this year I got the weeks “Cats and me” because I’m a cat lady lol. I love this so much! Many people focus on flip throughs and it can be intimidating to see, how did you get to this final result? I have tried many different approaches and layouts and given up sometimes or gotten frustrated due to feeling discouraged and discombobulated. Thanks for such a nice, gentle, step by step walk through to show us how you did it. Beautiful journal, btw! and it makes a lot of sense. I am between cat 2 and 3. I tried the Day Free but I ran out of pages in 2 months 😅 (I write a lot, sometimes up to 4 pages a day). I now toggle between a Cousin and a blank Hobonichi notebook, but I’d rather carry just one notebook. I like to use the Days in the Cousin to have some level of consistency, so I might experiment with gluing blank pages into a Cousin in between the days. If you have any other suggestions I would love to know! Thanks again for this soothing video!

Yeah I can definitely agree with that! I think since the original is so small compared to the cousin it feels a lot more limiting. The weekly spreads definitely add more structure but they also give sooo many more possibilities compared to an A6 that doesn’t include them. I can totally see where you are coming from though! Thanks for being here 💕
