Slave To The Wage lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Runaway from all your boredom
Runaway from all your whoredom
And wave your worries and cares goodbye
[Verse 2]
All it takes is one decision
A lot of guts, a little vision
To wave your worries and cares goodbye
[Chorus]
It's a maze for rats to try
It's a maze for rats to try
It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
[Verse 3]
Sick and tired of Maggie's farm
She's a bitch with broken arms
To wave your worries and cares goodbye
[Chorus]
It's a maze for rats to try
It's a maze for rats to try
It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
It's a race, a race for rats
A race for rats to die
[Outro]
Run away, run away
Run away, run away
Run away, run away

I was like 13 and I was like WTF is standard placebo tuning! I've not like drop D, 1/2 step down or anything I know. People would simply label it as "standard place tunning" lol I could never learn to place your music but I love it so much! So glad I quit my job. I didn't know until when I had to keep working there until one day I got sick of it. It took a lot of guts to tell my boss that I will not be coming back ever again. The company didn't care about their employees or costumers. They only cared about making money.

I never get comments like these... we're talking about a band that smashed every record, millions of followers across the world, 25 years of carreer... underrated by who??

I’m 65 years old, and steeped in classic rock, alternative, pop, some metal and electronic like Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers and newer bands (sort of) like Beck, Muse, Oasis, Metric, and I have over 475 artists and 8,576 songs on my iTunes. Yet when I play bands like Placebo and others to kids around 25 years of age, they are both amazed and most have never heard most of the groups I send them. So yes, in my small world centered in Rochester, NY, Placebo and many other great artists are either unknown or underrated.

@@davidbarker2585 every band is a product of their time. I don't think that for a band not to be underrated it has to be known by every generation. Each has their own. How many 20yo today listen to Pink Floyd? And so... they are also underrated by the same logic? What about Bach, Vivaldi? Who listens to them? A great band that created amazing pieces that can never leave their garage... well that's underrated.

I agree. My point was a matter of opinion. I'd wager almost every 20-year-old knows about Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and yes, Pink Floyd. To put Placebo in perspective, according to a quick Google AI search: "Placebo is ranked 345th in the overall artist rankings with a total rank score of 5,893. Their best album, Without You I'm Nothing, is ranked 825th in the overall greatest album chart with a total rank score of 2,200." Personally, Placebo is in my top 10 bands. And IMO they should be better well known.

See i don't think it is fair, if you don't get perfect grades and go to university, you get stuck with crappy jobs and therefore waste your life due to stress and boredom, it shouldn't be like this, it feels like you cannot enjoy life when you're young because you constantly have expectations to live up to, and if you don't, you become a slave to the wage.

In truth, we're meant to follow our hearts, our dreams! Like, if you're certain you're an artist or a musician, than you should pursue THAT and not work in a shitty day job.

i quitted my previous job as a cook in a hotel with 16hours of work everyday and low salary in one month when i listened to this song. been a fan of Placebo for 14years, when i was a teenager and barely speak english i first listened to the song in 2005 and didnt understand the lyrics until I watched the video in 2010 (i was 18) and told myself that i will never be a slave to the wage. such an irony years later. when i found my old BMM album, i heard this song, and the day after i just sent my resignation letter 😂
