r/place2?

This is a really amazing study from a philosophical standpoint. It shows, in a way, how the world really works. Structure is simply order formed from chaos via communities. There are thoses who would love to plunge everything back into chaos, so efforts to fight that have to be organised. Then there are thoses who would rather deface or be tricky and start a war. Really, this picture represents the game of life and the archetypes of personalities that exist. Life exists through a mixing of balancing and unballencing of all these forces over time. Its quite beautiful to watch it play out on something so simple... Its amazing to see how even through all the changes, in the end, structure prevailed, in a messy, non perfect way, just like real life.

Canos well, they invited me into a discord group. There, they would have representatives of different pixel arts discussing about which pixels would be theirs. For example the archlinux. At first, Archlinux was supposed to be overlapping the Darth script but it was later changed to be on top insteas. Also, Dark side's Dark kept getting griefed to Dank. We were also told to only write down the letters and let the "normies" fix the griefed words. Occasionally, somw would help though like Lunashroom (although I might be wrong about the username, I can't quite recall)

this was so entertaining to keep track of during the 72 hours, i was an individual so i'd use my pixel to fix the things i liked, Bunnings Snags being my number 1 priority.... i actually liked the void and how subreddits formed alliances to rid it, it was fun to watch... such a cool and interesting event

This was amazing people need to make stuff like PLACE more often... I think that making a new canvas every week or month and with each version of a new canvas, making it with a twist, like allowing the use of only 2-3 colors or even natural color spread into other pixles and see how the community reacts. I LOVE these sort of stuff, and seeing how people can work together to make something wonderful, sadly i wasnt aware of the existance of PLACE before this video. But if it will ever be re-opened, i will be super happy to take part of it!

I have to make a bit of a case for the void here. Sure it's easy to see it as just vandalism and I wouldn't be surprised it that was just the endgoal for some users. But it really adds to /r place and it would not be the same without it. 1.) In timelapses it looks amazing like a living entity sprawling out and consuming. 2.) it makes room for new art or atleast changes to existing one that stayed in. (Best examples would be the rebuilding of dutch nyan cat or the laser from the jesus statue that was used to repell the void. 3.) It served as a common enemy that formed many alliances and relationship between subreddits that may not have happended without it. But sure it wasn't perfect. For one since noone knew when it was gonna end (if at all) I fully understand that people are pissed that the void is currently attacking them and the final picture is ruined for them, (Mexican flag notably) And secondly since there was basically impossible to do any real damage to the botted big pieces and flags anymore it had to take the path of least resistance which resulted in exclusively small artpieces getting devoured, which had it rough already due to the expanding flags.

oh my gosh, there was everything. I even saw summit1g's logo...

As someone working all weekend long on the tf2 logo, I found CSGO to be infuriating, they kept invading us over and over, making us waste pixels while we were reworking our logo. Dota wasn't that great of a neighbor either, their logo was completely boted. EVE online and r/Mexico were great neighbors though, we helped eachother a bunch. I'm very sad Mexico couldn't fix their flag in time. We helped as much as we could but Void targetted us as well. Fuck void 12yo ruining everything, but hell all of this was fun.

For the first 2 days the dota logo was a nice, quaint 20x20 logo. Then they started botting, and even I couldn't support my Dota brethren at that point.

Idk much about this but maybe the void was to draw The Dark Side of the Moon prism?

Wish this was a game that everyone could play now

It's astonishing how so many random users over the internet can come together and create such a work of art. This just goes to show how much cooperation can acheive, I really hope we can see more of this in our real life world.

void was necessary, it cleaned out dead builds for new art (something only a large group could do when their core managed to take off) and were almost always maintained before they could become too large.

God, I recall warding off the void from the Aku the r/samuraijack subreddit created, because it was that time the final season of Samurai Jack came to be and I was browsing both subreddits like crazy. It was amazing! I'm glad to have been able to partake in r/place!

I had completely forgotten about this until now. I was playing R6S at the time and helped maintain the Tachanka icon whenever i had a bit of time to waste.

It's crazy that in a few days communities can be made, alliances, enemies etc. The human race is really crazy

I remember working on a small Rhythm Heaven PlayYan in the bottom right corner with a few friends during the few hours left of this, and never got far due to people replacing the pixels moments after placing them. It was fun to see this all happen, and glad to see this video to remind myself that this existed at one point

This just popped up in my reccommend but I have so many wonderful memories of r/place! I was on team r/ainbowroad, and if you look closely you can see how our rainbow interacted with art pieces! Went through portals, bounced off a shield, turned hearts rainbow, etc! It was maybe my favorite internet memory

A few years later, and the entire storyline played out once again, almost to the letter.

In the end, even the Void managed to secure a small spot on the final canvas. It's actually kind of sweet that they didn't wanna get left out.
