Security updates are the only thing that makes me want to upgrade at all. I have a 4a (5G). Otherwise, I'd 'run it into the ground'...phones are too expensive these days

I switched from 6 Pro to 8 Pro and it is like night and day. My 6 Pro always got hot while only browsing the web and listening to music or scrolling through Social Media. I am not talking about heavy tasks like video editing. The signal here on Deutsche Telekom 5G is so much better and due to not heating up so fast it feels like Pixel 8 Pro charges even faster. My main issue with 6 Pros camera was the not so wide "ultrawide" lens. That is also fixed with Pixel 8 Pro. It has a truely ultra wide camera lens. Well done Google, for me personally worth the upgrade.

I moved from iPhone 11 to the pixel 8 pro. This is the best android experience I've had in years.

Just upgraded from my P6P to the P8P and I can't say I'm too impressed. Thermals have been better but everything else seems to be minor improvements. Does anybody else find that the Google Photos app is sluggish when using the new "Magic" features? It's sometimes so slow I start to wonder if I should've just waited for the next gen Pixel.

Great video! Quite informative. I have the 6 Pro and I'll hold out for the 9 Pro or 10 Pro before dishing out mor money 💰. The 6 Pro is still a good device. I'm impressed with the 8Pro upgrades, but because of the expense involved for a new device, I'm waiting. And I'll look forward to even more upgrades in the future!☺️

I owned the Pixel 6 Pro at launch, and I loved it. I think aesthetically, the bold color block design of the all-black camera bar, and the two-tone color back is immediately recognizable as a pixel and I think I prefer it to the new metal covered visor. Not that the pixel 8 is not recognizable, but the bold black is that much easier to identify. I also like the *feel* of the rounded screen and narrow metal frame. For small hands, that felt a little easier to hold and it definitely feels high-end. That being said, the Pixel 8 pro's screen brightness alone makes a huge difference in usability while outside. The 6 pro display is so dim, it is barely visible outside during the day, so I just... Couldn't use it if I was outside. 😅 I'll take a phone I can actually use/see (even if the hardware isn't *that* different) ANY day over aesthetics and admittedly decent performance. The rounded corners and frosted glass of the 8pro still feel nice and luxurious, and I like that tempered glass screen protectors are much easier to find for the flat display.

the screen does get brighter but you won't enjoy the washed out compromise.

I still use P6Pro every day and it's amazing. Best phone I've ever had.

Been my favorite so far as well... right up until the moment it fell out of my pocket while biking and got bricked :( :(

I have the normal Pixel 6, people are always impressed by the Photo and video quality (IPhone users). I will change the phone when Android updates aren't available.

6 pro has been an amazing phone. Still performs great with max settings in COD Mobile.

Sticking with the 6 pro for sure. The 8 pro looks good but i think it's a relatively small upgrade as you mentioned.

Watching this on my Pixel 6 Pro wondering the same thing.

Went from 6 pro to 8 pro here. Main points for me after a month in... Signal quality is LIGHT YEARS ahead on the 8 pro. I live in a fringe coverage area and I went from barely usable to rock solid. Camera is better on the 8 by a fair margin. The focal length lends itself to more DSLR looking pictures. Performance isn't much better. I never had heat issues on the 6, and don't with the 8 either. But day to day usability isn't much improved for me. The 8 has a number of odd bugs just like the 6 has. Certain things like now playing, the finger print reader, etc bug out in the same ways. They really failed by not upgrading the finger print reader

Agreed I have the standard Pixel 6 and the camera visor looks much better and has a unique look of no other phone

Thinking about upgrading purely for the heating issues. I love hiking and being outdoors and I've found that my 6 pro overheats too quickly when I outside during the summer months.

Went from Pixel 6 Pro to Pixel 8 Pro. Got $400 for my 6 Pro trade in and sold my bundled Pixel Watch 2 for $200. Stuck with my Galaxy Watch 4 because it could measure body fat and I liked that. Paid about $500 for my Pixel 8 Pro and I'd say it was well worth it.

Former 6 Pro now 8 Pro user. I find it frustrating the "hold" while taking a photo when it buffers and ruins the ability to try taking another shot after another. Fix that google. I do love recording video and the 8 Pro doesn't heat under my usage. While filming the same on my 6 Pro, I usually got that "battery too warm" warning.

So I've just updated from the 6pro to the 8pro and I've found that everything is much more quality.. my only thing I've noticed is that the camera colours are totally different on the same settings. On my 6pro you can see my actual skin colour, on the 8 pro I'm pure white I look like a ghost. I've tried so many different lightings and it's the same every time. I wonder why this is..

Maybe the thing is that p8pro G.photos app uses hdr to display photos, unlike p6pro?

I still prefer the design of the 6 series better. Something about the dual tone on the back just looked better. The addition of more aluminum is likely more durable, but I don't like the look personally.

My Pixel 6 Pro kept overheating while trying to record a video at an outdoor music festival. I was only able to capture clips instead. Getting rid of it now for the 8 Pro.

May I ask why you're wearing headphones while filming this? I don't know why I find that interesting and can't let it go

Out of the gate, AT&T gave me $1050 trade for my 6 Pro, so there's that. Huge improvements: - Screen brightness. 6 Pro was useless in any type of sunlight at all. - Wider, higher quality ultra wide. 6 pro ultrawide was a throwaway lens with negligible increase in width over the wide lens and quality trash - 2x portrait mode massive quality improvement - Macro modes that allow taking photos closer for quick shots - Battery, modem, does not heat up doing simple tasks. Better reception, GREAT LTE only speeds so turning off 5G to save batter no tradeoffs in my area with AT&T Improvements: - 30w charging - also no heating up doing menial tasks that use mobile data - Battery life noticeable improvement - Pro mode on cameras. Ability to lock a specific lens and 50 mp can produce some really shart shots on ALL lenses - Flat screen FTW I had really suffered for the last 2 years with the heat of the original Tensor and the embarassingly terrible modem. Android 14 actually improved battery life on the 6 Pro in a noticeable way - probably added at least an hour screen on time throughout the day but all of the above issues really couldn't be helped. I'm happy that I made the upgrade but was this close to getting my first iPhone in the 15 Pro Max after the obvious engineering shortfalls of the 6 Pro.

I have a P6P on the way, my daily is an iPhone, but I felt that adding the Pixel into my tech arsenal could be good. Mostly I hope it’ll run strong and use as my camera go to, over my iPhone 12 Pro. The difference in features I wanted at a price of $210 rather than $550 for the P8P was not worth the latest and greatest.

Got the Pixel 6 Pro firat day it was available and it has gotten better and better over the time. I don't see a reason to upgrade for another 2 years. Still very happy with it.

I know there's an audio Magic Eraser when recording video does anyone know if the audio magic eraser also works on the audio recorder for the pixel 8? That would seem weird if it didn't. I do a lot of audio recording and getting rid of background noise would be very helpful.

No, it doesn't seem to be available within the Recorder app. Funnily, it's 100% possible to use it by using the Recorder app's "convert to video" function then opening the video in Google Photos. But I can't seem to find Audio Magic Eraser anywhere within the Recorder app itself, it seems to be video only, at least for now.

I upgraded P6 Pro -> P8 Pro after doing some DIY repairs, and I have no regrets. Screen brightness outdoors is night and day, the camera app organization is great, and the flat screen is such a blessing. No more cases that only protect the top and bottom of the screen from drops! No more hell to apply screen protectors! I liked the curved display's feel, but I did not like how much I damaged the screen over the course of only two years. Plus, after watching the video, I completely forgot about the signal quality improvement. It "just works" now in a way my Pixel 6 Pro never did, even in tough places like a basement with a veak 4G signal repeater. If your Pixel 6 Pro is still going strong, good on you, I'd stick with it. But if it's seeing the wear and tear of 2 years already like mine was, I would recommend upgrading, and taking advantage of the much easier to apply, and much better looking, screen protectors.

After watching your video I am going to hold off. Thanks!

I have pixel 6, pixel 6 pro, and im very tempted to upgrade but i only paid half brand new in box from Woot! There have right now a pixel 7 128 gb for 439.99 new. So maybe next year the pixel 8 will also be half off on woot!

Been enjoying my Pixel 6 pro but the only downside is with thermals especially when browsing the web and socials as well as streaming music over cellular. It gets super-hot. Another heating issue arises when recording a video, it gets hot and gives me a warning about the device getting slowed down. I hope these are some of the issues ironed out with the 8 pro, otherwise I will be considering the s24+ or Ultra.

You didn't mention the 2x zoom on the 8 pro crops in on the sensor so its almost the same as having an extra Zoom lense.

I've got the 7 pro. and upgrading to the 8 pro is all about if we get the Ai updates retro updated to the 7 pro. As myself and many other people spent their money less than 12 months ago on the 7 pro, I just think it would be amoral of Google to leave a virtually new device out in the weeds. The Ai is a big factor to me, and I know Google have said that they will support the 8 pro for the next 7 years for hardware and software. But rather than buying again this year, I think I might just wait a bit to see what happens. What if I bought the 8 pro now, and when the 9 pro comes out next year it has further upgrades that the 8 pro wont get? It leaves me a little dissatisfied with Google's approach to customer retention. Yes I know they are a company whose focus is on making a profit, like every other company out there, but still....

You will always have this question as companies will always put out incremental upgrades each year. AI was new last year so Google didn't know it'd have the impact it has now. I think waiting at least a year for a cheaper 8 pro is the way to go - still get the software upgrades for 6 years and AI integration the phone was made for, but at a cheaper price. Best of both worlds.

I'll hold onto my 6 Pro until the price of the 8 Pro comes down. I feel that "flagship" phones are seriously overpriced at launch, and bug fixes for new phones always take a while too.

Got my p8p for 397 if trade in a success

I just need a good phone for taking video, I still like my Moto G30 but the autofocus and dynamic range in video mode aren't that good. At first I was also considering action cameras but they're quite expensive for just a camera, harder to carry around and worse for low-light and photography. The post-processing on a phone is just better. With a phone, an added benefit is the comparatively great battery life. If I just use two phones while travelling, I won't need to hassle with powerbanks anymore as I can use the Pixel 6 Pro solely for its camera features and my current device for normal things. I was looking at the €190 Galaxy S20 FE originally but the software, camera and battery size on the Pixel 6 Pro are noticeably better and for €250 it seems to be worth the cost. I hope the curved display, Tensor battery drainage and overheating issue as well as the spotty cellular connection won't pose too much of a problem. It seems like every phone model always has some flaws, can't avoid it.

This is just my experience but I found with my Pixel 6 Pro I couldn't use google maps for directions in my car if I had it on the wireless charger. After about half an hour or so the device would heat up so much the wireless charging would turn off and I'd need to plug it in using an extra USB-C cable to keep it from loosing charge. The Pixel 8 Pro on the other hand seems to have no issue with wireless charging and running google maps at the same time. I've done a 2 hour trip so far and while the phone did get warm, never enough to prevent the wireless charging from working. So for me this is very much a nice upgrade.

Feels like a huge stab in the back google going to 7 years updates after i bought pixel 7 last year. I would be okay with this if the trade ins were good but google give you less than 300 for the pixel 7 through their trade in program

Most people upgrade every 3 years so there is not many thats going to keep their pixel 8 for seven years. But yes its nice to have that security for 7 years but the 5 years on pixel 7 is enough for most people

Still using my pixel 6 did not see much difference when the 7 come out to what I have already and ended up with the same features the 7 come with anyway

My pixel 6 Pro only had heat issues every time I restored my phone from a backup soon as I did a clean setup I've never had any issues, playing games while charging gives minimum heat, I love the look of the 8 pro but it's not worth it for me yet.

You and I both. Every time I get a major software update I always do a backup and restore factory reset and it always works like a charm, but I understand that the everyday person isn't going to know that, so they just end up saying it's a bad phone and heats up too much. Anyways hope this helps the next person.

I hate curved screens and so the 6 pro became the 6. Now the 8 pro is flat screen, I think I might get one.

I'm planning to buy refurbished 6 pro (3rd world country things hahah). Thanks for pointing out the disadvantages of this device but I still think it's a great buy (my current device is Poco F4 )

I LOVED my Pixel 6 Pro, but the 8 Pro is much better. It's worth the upgrade for the flat screen alone.

I'm using pixel 6 Pro as my second device and S20 Fe 5G as my primary device but my pixel 6 Pro after Android 14 update has changed a lot. The heating issue is reduced and all the experience after Android 14 update is very good and it is , you know good a device. If you compare because you know difference between the prices and you got 12 gigs of RAM, 256 GB storage etc. And satisfied with my pixel 6 Pro

with the 6 series you'd have to make more compromises (old 5g modem, FP sensor) but i dont think you can go wrong with either. still using the 2XL 💀

6 ft 7 in screen. I really doubt a phone is that big it would also really help if you would specify which features are not available for those who live outside of the USA

i still own a pixel 6 pro, and the only thing stopping me from getting the 8 is that i love the curved display on the pixel 6, ive considered getting the pixel 7 pro but its actually more money to buy the 7 than it would be to buy the 8 so its just not justifiable

Coming from a 6P, it fixed everyone had issues with. Poor screen dimming, horrible screen rotation tracking, poor autofocus. 8P is the best phone I've ever used. Very happy

Yeah. Trash screen brightness sensor and terrible screen rotation tracking in 2023 should not be happening period. I noticed the same with mine and it drove me nuts. Every little thing that was just not working right I would be saying...'so this is a billion dollar company, right?'

Awesome comparison. Thank you. I can not accept 8 pro image quality compared to 6 pro. Most likely returning 8 pro! It is slower, and somehow renders more dull, whitish, bland image compared to bit warmer images in 6 pro. Dynamic mode editing also changes image brightness and color composition in a different way compared to 6 pro. I do not like it (could be personal choice)

User experience and camera are the same, only a little booster on screen and battery maybe. Still 3.1 ufs memory, 128 gb, slow charge ecc ecc but 450€ vs 1100€

You clearly have not used both phones. Your very elementary answer belies this fact. Saying the camera is the same is a huge tell, also.

The glass visor looks better to me on the 6 the aluminum looks cheap to me on the new one not sophisticated

I replaced my Pixel 6P with a Pixel 7P. My main reason was overheating while charging, but I found that the 7P has the same problem. Notice I said replaced, not upgraded. I might just wait for another few years before upgrading, or I will switch to the Qualcomm silicon on a Samsung phone. Google....wouldn't it be less work to convince Qualcomm to extended their processor support than trying to completely make your own buggy, slow, and subpar silicon????

I'm having issues with my phone losing connection to the towers constantly. I have to switch to airplane mode and back to fix it. Pixel 6. Fully updated. New SIM card. Reset Mobile Network. Has anyone seen issues like this with the 8?. I'll trade this in and eat the costs. I just need it fixed.

Pixel 6 Pro & 7a owner here. Whilst on paper the 6 Pro is great it had its fall backs which have shown in changes made to the newer 7 and 8 models. Curved screens are nice but I damaged mine in a light drop with a protector and case. Cost to repair was the same as a new device($350+ at 3 places) and it simply wasn't worth it. It just hits in a certain way and isn't as secure as flat screen phones. I've just bought the 7a on sale and feel like I'm honestly not missing out on much from the 6 Pro. Battery life also isn't great, i had to keep it in batter saver to make it through the day before I got home. It has all the other features etc like fast charge. I'll very likely hold onto the 7a until this time next year when the 9 gets released or I'll step up to an 8 Pro if it makes sense on sale and I can get a decent worth from this 7a.

Pixel 7 is a pretty good model. If you can hold out 10 is gonna be the big update with a custom made chip that Google has been working on.

I kinda miss the curves. I'm not used to this flat screen yet.

I dealt with that the last 4 years, I finally convinced her to download what's app and that fixed oue texting issues, I also showed her videos and articles explaining how apple is intentionally making messaging between non Apple devices to iPhones difficult to incentivize people to switch 😅

Naw I'm keeping my 6 Pro until at least the Pixel 10 series. It's still a perfectly fine phone despite its flaws.

What I have an issue with is the battery life of my 6 Pro, constantly have battery anxiety and I hate it

The 6pro is ridiculously cheap here in the uk for a good condition model,i paid 150 uk pounds for mine with a 12 month guarantee and the 8 pro is 1000 pounds new.The 6 pro on android 14 runs amazing i get seven hours screen on time throughout the day,the sensor works fast every time,the cameras are great,the phone is fast and never overheats.I figure it takes google two years to actually fix there flagship models so they work as they should at release.I did have an s23 plus before this 6 pro and sent it back as the 6 pro takes better photos.

The 8 Pro screen is literally life changing. Face unlock wireless with contactless payments and banking apps

My son isn't going to upgrade from the 6 pro, maybe the 9 pro if it has major innovation.

I'm assuming you mean victus 2, gorilla glass 2 would have been a downgrade.

My pixel 6 pro burned up in the lahaina fire I got lol an iPhone 15 pro Samsung s23 ultra and now a pixel 8 pro 128 gig and I love the pixel 8 pro

The only reason i got the 6 was because i dropped a 2lbs hand sledge on my 4xl..... I miss my 4xl.

I do!. I believe its a "defect" for some 6 pro's. On my pixel 6 pro the finger print doesn't work on mine "won't recognize my finger" plus the dead pixels on the top right corner are the reasons why I just bought the 8 Pro plus I like using mag safe wireless battery chargers and I've heard the 8 pro has a better wireless charging system.

Ehhhh....phones evolve but it is not enough of a difference for me to spend my money. Maybe next year.
