I picked one up recently after years of owning a simple Fitbit Inspire 2. As a first-time smartwatch owner was in the market for something with GPS capabilities for tracking my runs, but was also reluctant to leave the world of Fitbit with the years of data I've already recorded on there. At the £350 MSRP I wouldn't have bought the Pixel Watch 2, but I found someone on marketplace selling one brand new for £150. This price made it hard to say no to. So far I'm liking it. The biggest adjustment is getting used to daily charging, when my old fitbit lasted 14 days between charges.
So far I'm very happy with this watch. I wouldn't say it's worth the upgrade but it being free with my 8 pro was a great promo. The battery life is a very noticeable improvement compared to the 1st gen

Great to hear comment from someone using it. I won't get the pixel 8 as I just got the fold. But I m thinking about picking up the watch. I've been using Samsung watch. Any thoughts on differences between Samsung watch vs pixel watch 2?
I absolutely hate the idea of wireless charging being dropped after literally one generation. The community around the PW1 was super enthusiastic about having a similar ecosystem to the Apple Watch, but with this precedent set for Google to arbitrarily change any one feature between generations makes it hard to build up around the product. One thing people really wanted was a bedside wireless charger that could charge the phones, the pixel buds, and the watch. But with that one change 3rd party device manufacturers have surely lost faith in the viability of backing this product and supporting it for years to come since they don't know if that R&D will pay off past a single generation.

Yep. I bought a stand that charges my phone, buds, and watch, and now I have to contend with it not working if I get a new watch
@spideyguard
9 ай бұрын
@@NEMOsleeps24I bought a stand as well. I ended up giving it to someone with an Apple watch. I love that it charges faster but would have rather had wireless charging. Another thing I hate it, that even though it looks the same, Google slightly changed the design so the Watch 1 cases don't really work on the Watch 2. The stem and microphone punchouts aren't in the correct position. I asked Caseology and Spigen when they would be releasing their cases. Caseology said they don't have an ETA at the moment and Spigen said 3-4 months.

Agreed it messes with the ecosystem not having wireless charging
@TheIndulgers

If they really wanted pogo pins for faster charging, could they not just added in addition to the already established wireless charging? What’s worse is that the Apple Watch takes the same 75minutes to full. So what’s the point if you’re only matching the competition’s speed? The same company that promises “seven years” of support for the phones can’t keep a charger for more than one year 🤦🏻

I upgraded from the first gen Pixel Watch to the second, and imo it was definitely worth it. Besides MUCH improved battery life, the performance is significantly smoother than the first one. I find myself using it way more often to ask Google Assistant to set a quick timer or change my music on Spotify, whereas previously I'd use it only sparingly throughout the day due to nervousness of running out of battery before day's end. Also, auto workout detection is a GODSEND. I missed several workouts before cuz the first one didn't have it, very happy to see it here

Pixel watch is a joke. Its a pig for power. My amazfit GTR 4 blows this crap out of the water Bigger screen, much better speaker phone with text great app and battery life lasts two weeks. You can probably find it for less then 200 online now. Wear OS is a trash OS that has trash battery life. And the fact that its tied into fitbit makes it a complete total showstopper. You won't find any of that BS with Amazfit watches. You just pay allot less for the watch up front, get a better watch, and no more consumables running after your money month after month. Fitbit is the worst tech company imaginable.

@@GalaxyNexus1 oh wait really? I've never had a pixel so maybe I don't know. It sounds like you have to pay for Fitbit to get full health features from the watch...
So I think this is a worthy upgrade from their first iteration. Price wise it's also great since they offer in most places a decent trade in value for the Pixel Watch 1. I very much appreciate all the many upgrades especially battery life and the upgraded CPU, however there is one thing albeit minor that it is missing. And I'm sure at some point it will be added since it's only a server side change. So one of the things I appreciate on Apple Watches (I'll never own an Apple product but I can appreciate its tech) is that whenever a navigation session is started whether from a phone or from Carplay, it automatically follows on the watch. So for the Pixel watch, only if you initiated a navigation session from the phone (or the watch itself) does it show on the watch. But for some reason, when initiating a navigation session from Android Auto, it does not show on the watch. You can't even opt to manually make it do so. I would say, likely similar to most people, I use navigation through Android Auto most of if not all the time. So this would be a nice addition to an already fantastic looking and working smartwatch. The only other thing I would want is a slightly bigger size, but for now it doesn't bug me enough not to purchase it. Thanks again for your awesome review!
@MrSwaggernaut83
9 ай бұрын
I wonder if they'd ever add that. My thinking is that in theory the hierarchy of safety when it comes to navigation is probably AA/car play >> watch > phone. For that reason I can't really see AA navigation letting you fiddle around on your wrist. Not saying I agree but I'd imagine that's the thinking behind the scenes.
I'm crying because I still miss a heart rate sensor as accurate as the one from the apple watch. Measuring heart rate variability (hrv) here is very limited but its what I need for my individual use case.
Do you know if it can detect swimming strokes? Thanks
I know that I'm likely in the minority, however, as part of the initial setup for any smartwatch I get, I: - enable AOD - enable DND - enable auto-brightness - disable Tilt to Wake - disable Tap to Wake (so I need to press the crown to wake it up) - disable anything fitness/tracking related - setup the most simple Watch Face I can find with 3 complications (Calendar, Weather & Notifications) - disable any Tiles other than Calendar & Weather And other than keeping the stock Apps updated, that's about it. For me, it's a watch first. I don't want it buzzing for Notifications. I don't want it buzzing for Fitness stuff. I want it to tell me the time, weather & that's about it. I have my phone for the rest. What is important to me is LTE connectivity (since all the way back to the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE). Why? So I can either choose to leave my phone behind when I go out or not need to go back for it if I left it home by mistake. When I am separated from my phone, I disable DND so I have more immediate access to my Notifications, but again, that's pretty much it. I use it for convenience. I try to keep it as passive & discreet as possible with as minimal physical interacting with it as I can. If I want a smartwatch feature like Notifications, I can swipe up or rotate the crown. Otherwise, I don't want a constant reminder that it's a smartwatch & especially don't want it buzzing constantly when my phone is already alerting me. Again, I know my use-case isn't for everyone, but it works perfectly for me & after years of using countless smartwatches I wouldn't have it any other way.

what battery life do you get with these settings?
I've been sent one with my pixel 8 pro but can't decide whether to open it out sell it. I've got a fitbit sense which seems to do what I need and the battery lasts ages. I'm really unhappy that Google have removed the csv data downloads though I've now no way of downloading and recording my steps!
Unfortunately reverse wireless charging your pixel watch with your phone was really janky and did not really work, so I like the compromise with the pin system if that means it charges faster.
Is it possible to connect a chest strap from Garmin or Polar? Seems like the option is gone in Wear OS 4
I got the watch thanks to promotion that came with Pixel 8 Pro preorder and i love it so far. Battery is 100% better now. Easy 1 day

I love my new Pixel Watch 2 - a must have upgrade - get it today - it rocks !!
Great review, it definitely made up my mind to get it.
Sticking to Huawei, just due to the 2 week battery. Dno why more people aren't copying this. Sure, I don't have google Assistant. But I'm using that on my pixel anyway.
When someone texts you does it display the photo, or do you still need to open your phone for that. With the second gen improving battery life, I am seriously thinking about a switch from the traditional fitbit to this.
I upgraded but it's a step back and pins on the back are ridiculous... And no stainless
I'll see if I can wait, but the lack of wireless charging and no optional bigger screen makes me want to hold out for something better.
Does the step counter still add 50k steps?
Google offered preorders a $100 trade in credit for my ancient Fitbit Sense 2. I also had $100 credit from my last purchase, so I was able to get the Pixel Watch 2 for $150. In that regard, it is a steal. I have turned off a lot of the additional bells and whistles and my battery life is currently hitting the 2 day mark flat; that is barely passable to me. The watch face at 41mm is also far too small for my large wrist. Functionality and all other aspects of the watch seem to be great; but the battery life might bug me enough in the long run to cut my losses and switch to the Sense 2 or the newest Charge. If the face was 2mm bigger or more, and the battery was 150% larger, this would be the perfect watch for me. But for now, coming from the Versa 2 which still had 3+ days of battery life after 4 years of use, the Pixel Watch 2 makes me wonder how "smart" I need my smartwatch to be.
Ill wait til the pixel watch gen 5
Trying to decide if I should keep my galaxy watch 5 pro or switch to the pixel watch 2 which I got for free as part of pixel 8 promo

Personally, I excused the short comings because of how often and how deep the Pixel Watch goes on discount (sometimes free if you buy it through promotions). Sure for MSRP, the pain points shine but for 150 or 200 it really doesn’t. That being said, there’s no day it will beat out my Apple Watch but it also isn’t getting curb stomped by it either. And if I consider the 700$ price difference, I can’t be too harsh to my Pixel watch.

At the moment im rocking a Garmin with 7 days battery life the step tracking im looking for but no touchless pay. I swear six or sevn months ago i heard they were being foced to change the fitbit sub because of a lawsuit. I started my trial thinking maybe premium would be dead by the time the trial was over. Soo wtf happend? Still holding our data hostage i guess. Glad that lawsuit did a lot
You can get through a whole day without compromises: charge the watch every day
As a truck driver I found that this watch adds around 400 to 500 steps per hour and I'm not walking just sitting there surly with how things progress in tech they should know that us humans cannot walk or run at 50 to 60 mph for 4.5 hours
If only I could afford one....I'd use it for my running 🏃♂️
I love mine, just hate how it doesn't have wireless charging, because I know pins will wear out overtime, and the charger just kind it sucks because it's a specific orientation. If they stuck to wireless charging I could charge my watch though my phone on battery share or put it in my pixel stand.
There is no way to turn the sound completely off. The alarm and the timer sound are permanently on. In my opinion that makes this watch the worst on the market.

Watching this to try and understand why people want these. And I still don't get it why do you need, or even want, a smart watch??? Beside the more detailed vitals that it can take, like O2 SATs?, you can get all that information just from your phone. You can track sleep... From phone. I guess it sort of makes sense if you are SUPER into fitness, specifically just tracking fitness (to which I would suggest reevaluating your priorities lol. Being that obsessed with fitness sort of defeats the purpose of exercising *in order to live your life healthily*) Maybe I'm missing some things it can do? But ya I do not understand why anyone wants one of these. Let alone pay $300+ for one. Honestly feels like a scam lmao, hyping up this next to useless $300 wrist band.
