    Used to fool with old mopars every set of heads I'd tore down had knurled valve guides never seen it done on a piston

    My dad was huge into MG-Austin Healey 3000’s and we’d open up a motor and find knurled pistons. On my recent Makita 5000 build I cut horizontal oil lines on that ex skirt. About 2-3 thou deep and I go edge to edge those grooves aren’t enough to make a difference In performance. Also chamfer the piston edges and specifically the skirt bottoms so they don’t act like a scraper and wipe the bore clean when hot. Small details like these can really help. Cool stuff

    Now to machine a whole engine design. Like a rotary wankel chainsaw, that would be an amazing feat. Also Mahle was a good piston company.

    No I've never seen a knurl piston vid we use to do that to old wore out race engines back before KZread was ever around I learned it from an old timer that I use to hang out with my buddy at his shop still has a actual piston knurler sits in the corner

    @@CharlesBrisco smokey would do that on some of his race motor builds... the idea was multifaceted... oil retention and keeping the ring contact patch proper.
