When an intruder breaks in your home, I can't speak for everybody, but I'm not trying to position a stock correctly on my shoulder for precision. I'm pulling out my pistol grip for a quick and fast delivery of buckshot. Let GOD and the coroner sort em out.

I see that this was posted almost 9 years ago, but this video just popped up when I clicked on my KZread bookmark. I bought a Mossberg OFM JIC M500CRUISER back in February 2012. It is the best firearm I ever had and suitable for home defense should we ever need to use it. I have put several hundred rounds through it without any problems. I do keep it loaded with birdshot, readily accessible and hidden out of sight. Since we have other homes in close proximity to ours, birdshot is more suited as walls will not be penetrated like 00 and 000 buckshot would.

A 20 gauge pistol grip shotgun is easier to control than a 12 gauge and at 20' feet inside a house it's very deadly even with 7 1/2 bird shot I like a barrel mounted laser for a house gun because you can shoot it from the hip and still hit where you want I don't ever shoot a pistol grip shotgun aimed like you would with a butt stock you''ll get a black eye even with a 20 gauge and light loads unless you hold it away from your face That's why I put a laser on mine and it works really great.

First, I am an former member of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers with a good background in the use of shotguns. I personally keep my stock on because if I have to shoot it close, I can still shoot it from the waist. The stock, allows you to aim your shots, which is important because as most shotgun-shooters know, you can still miss with a shotgun quite easily due to the tight shot-groupings at close range.. The pistol grip in my opinion is problematic in that it is very difficult to do a well aimed shot without hitting your face (unless you have some really strong wrists and forearms or have done a lot of training doing so). I also always recommend that people put locks on their indoor bedroom doors as well as to get a dog with a loud bark if they don't have one. Even a little dog can be a valuable security system. But the bigger the dog, the better the deterrent. The other second, potentially life saving accessory to have is a bullet proof vest that is positioned right by the bed with your magazine pouches attached to it.. The dog and indoor locks can give precious seconds to throw the vest on and ready your weapons. In a worst-case scenario, the vest can be grabbed and held in front of you like a shield while you grab a handgun. Speaking of handguns, it is always a good idea to have a handgun as a backup to your shotgun (and kept with a round in the chamber in case one arm becomes incapacitated). It's also important to do transition training between your shotgun and your pistol using unloaded weapons. Finally, it sounds goofy, but it's also good to do dry runs in your home with your weapons as well so that you can practice changing between high and low shooting stances along with taking corners and door ways (what in the military we call "slicing or cutting the pie"). If these precautions are done and these drills, (including drilling on weapon malfunctions using snap-caps), are practiced over and over, it can prepare a person very well for dealing with any home invasion situation.

they work fine .. I have both and if I had to chose only one the pistol grip is easier to handle and takes up the least amount of room , you can carry it and flip it around almost like a pistol. plus I can still mount the adjustable stock on the end in about 5 min with just an allen wrench. and it holds 7 +1 don't knock it till you try it.

I have heard stories about the Winchester 1200's before and how some really like them. I have long been a fan of guns that were a little heavier and a little better built without all the alloy materials they come from now. I have had several Ithaca 37 shotguns, and they I think are about as tough a shotgun as you can come up with. I have a 1980 vintage Remington 870 that is super tough and have owned a few older Winchesters, one a Model 12 and the other a 1897. That Model 12 would handle anything I could put through it.

Hi, great vid. Something to add to further accentuate your description of why shotguns are now so popular for civilian home defense: The largest caliber we are allowed is .50. Anything larger is a 'destructive device'. The only reason shotguns are exempted is because of their extensive use as bird guns. So, if you're a civvy and you want something larger than .50, it pretty much has to take the form of a shotgun. Also I think 20" and under should fall into the riot/tactical/SP category since these are the only tube-fed ones that will hold 8. Nice Remington.

Yes, I have shot one setup like it before but it was a Mossberg my friend owned. Talk about a gun that will tear your wrists off if you shot it wrong. It must be held to the side to allow the recoil to flow by you to keep your wrists intact. I stood a sheet of 3/4 in. thick plywood up at the range. I cut it in half with 00 buck in 7 shots. It's a handful.

I was looking at putting a pistol grip on my shotgun so I came to You Tube and viewed a ton of videos. About half pro and half con. The con's talked about recoil (losing teeth) and perceived diminished aim-ability. So I took my Mossberg 88, put a pistol grip on it and took it to the range. Having read all the negative comments I was just a bit apprehensive. At 7 yards I put 9 out 10 shots on target (Missed the first shot). The recoil was manageable and I didn't feel beat up. So I fall firmly in the pro camp .

I picked up a used mossie 500 last year and it has the BlackHawk breacher pistol grip and it is great. Since it has that recoil reduction technology it makes it so much more fun to shoot and it's not as painful. I used my single point sling and turned it to a 3 pint sling. I would love to get some dragon's breath shells and some of those tazer rounds for it lol.

I have had a short barrel Remington 870 for quite awhile, and kept it loaded with alternating 00 Buck and slugs. However, I have downsized my load to #2 waterfowl shot because I fear the buck shot and slugs are far too much if the need ever does arise to use it in the house.

That 000 buck is like sending 10 .357mag rounds (from a 2-4" barrel) in one shot!!! Out of a pistol grip it's going to hurt just a bit, but you'll only need 1 round.

My only issue with using shotguns for home defense, is the noise. Shooting a 00 buck or even a 000 buck in a house regardless of size, your ears will be ringing! Granted, I use a 9mm and if i ever have to shoot it in the house, my ears will be ringing as well, but no where near as if i had fired a 00 buck shell. So, i'm still on the fence about loading my 870 as home protection.

I'm a fan of pistol grip shotguns but if you can't hold it tight enough to aim down the sight without it hitting your face you either need to get a folding stock or a laser so you can shoot from the hip fairly accurately.

Idk if I've ever seen a triple "000 buckshot," obviously a double odd. Idk if that visual size was very accurate, but diameter size yeah 00 double odd is basically a 9mm ball. Triple look like they'd only fit maybe 3 balls in a round. That Winchester one on the right would be bad ass with one of those fold up stocks, that can hold acouple rounds. Like on a Spas-12 or whatever, the only stocks like that I've seen are really cheap looking ones. I wouldn't mind getting one of those camo Mossberg 500's though, still really not even sure what's the different between the Mossberg 500 and the 590..

I think pistol grips are good not only for maneuverability, but think, shot spreads for about every yard, if you use a pistol grip and hold it to your side so only 4 or 5" of the barrel sticks out, that may held the spread a little, not a lot, but alittle, especially if you are trained.

Pistol grip is great for a compact package. However, to be accurate you really need to have a butt stock attached. A butt stock is needed so you can aim and make your first shot count. I know this from using both pistol grip and regular butt stock equiped shotguns in training, In the Army the Mossbergs we had came with a buttstock, and the Remingtons came with a pistol grip only. In Afghanistan, the Remington was for breeching doors, Mossberg for personnel and feral dogs in my unit.

They also sell short barrel shot guns with a regular stocks if you do not like the pistal gip. Or you can buy a short barrel to go onto an existing gun. For some people a youth shot gun might be the answer, short easy to handle at a very resonable cost. I purchased the JIC stainless steel for Marine use and like it very well. You have to practice using the pistal grip gun as it is unlike other shot guns.

Like I said in a previous post, they're fun but not better than a standard Mossy 500 or Rem 870 for home defense.

It's the square-rectangle argument all over again. You can hold a butt stock equipped shotgun to the waist, but you can't hold a pistol grip shotgun to your shoulder (where the better accuracy peaks from).

seeing as I teach CQB, and combatives and have been through SWAT courses, and am a combat vet I think I got a pretty good handle on what they are designed for. Keep your stock on it. I have yet to see a "riot" shotgun without a stock. Pistol grip only shotguns are used for breaching doors with dust/ breaching loads. Little else.

You absolutely, positively, cannot shoot a pistol grip shotgun as well as a regular shotgun because its way harder to control and take followup shots. YES they are extremely fun to shoot and the looks may be intimidating, but that doesn't make it good for actual home defense. Ill take an 18" barrel Mossberg 500 with normal stocks any day. Loaded with 00 of course. Just my 2 cents... Great videos, keep up the good work... 8 )

Pistol grips are great if you have very limited space for storage but you lose the control of the shoulder stock while still taking up just as much room in your hands. The barrel is just as far out in front of you when you fire the weapon. They are great for storage but less than useless for control when firing. You are better off with a shorter barrel instead.

I like the pistol grips, but I prefer the full stock with pistol grip, just for options. I've got bony shoulders, I'd rather soak the recoil by letting my arms move than having it slam into my shoulder, pistol grips are geat for that.

  • @buffalobills91
    @buffalobills9112 жыл бұрын

well, with a stock your shoulder takes the recoil--with a pistol grip its only your hands--- think about it... it all depends on the reason for the weapon- pistol grip is the only way to go for home defense imo because because its not exactly easy to maneuver around a house with a shouldered full length stock shotgun... anyway, good luck with the maverick--I would recommend getting hogue tamer grips if you want a pistol grip setup (if they make them 4yours) because they are by far the best.

The only practical way to shoot a 3" mag 12 gauge pistol grip shotgun is from the hip if you shoot it aiming it down the barrel you better hold it away from your face or it will smack you in the chops. I mounted a laser sight on mine and zeroed the laser to point of impact at 20" at night or inside a house it's very deadly even with trap loads at room distance.

@juanluisvalencia what i did back in the day, was i took an old tire innertube, cut about a 3-4" tube of it, and slid it on the grip. adds grip, and shock absorption!
