My favorite book of all times. I read it five times and listened to the audiobook twice and I always find new clues and interpretations. The only work that came close to the atmosphere from "Piranesi" was a weird novella, "Tainaron. Mail from Another City" by Leena Krohn. The two short stories by Jorge Luis Borges that inspired the author are amazing as well. They are "The House of Asterion" and "The Library of Babel".

Bought it as a gift to someone I know, now I'm beginning to circle them to see if I can yoink it back and read it myself. Thank you for not going into detail too much before I read it.

Oh my god I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Favourite book of the whole of last year! I hear Chiwetl Ejiofur did the audio narration right? Was he good? I totally agree you HAVE to go in blind. May your floors go unbroken and may the House fill your eyes with beauty!

He honestly did such a good job! And I think the mind wandering during the long descriptions of the house would have happened a bit even if I didn't have a super soothing voice reading them too me lol. It almost felt like that was the way those passages were supposed to feel anyways. For awhile I was worried I was missing some crucial information about the statues, and I don't know, maybe I was lol. If I did it was too smart for me anyways 😂 After awhile I stopped rewinding and trying to find the secret, and just enjoyed the way the book made me brain feel during those parts instead.

Hi, I'm new here, and I'm trying to work out whether this is to do with a . . . (fictionalized) description of Piranesi, who was an artist or draftsman in late renaissance Italy . . . Could you answer a yes or no question about that? I'm interested, certainly, but the timing depends on the answer to this . . .I know that sounds bad, but I've been into the style of renaissance draftsmen for a couple of years now . . . Sorry this didn't make more sense than probably did. Have a good day.

The name Piranesi in the novel is kind of a joke that the actual character in the novel doesn’t understand. “The Other” gives him the nickname as a sort of nod to the house and the artist. It doesn’t have anything to do with any actual history, unless I super missed it lol. I don’t know anything about Renaissance Italy, so I could have missed more references 😅 I hope that helps!
