Try Small Gods, it is soo funny. The story is immersive and simple with a satisfying ending. Plus I want to see you talk about it😆

Ooooh yes I love this suggestion! That does seem like exactly what I would be going for and from everything I have seen it’s a hard one to go wrong with. Thanks!

Nice ranking. Your 4 books are really hard to rank, they are 4 masterpieces. Man at Arms is also my favorite, because it's not only a great fantasy/humor/satire book, it's also a great crime book. Also, it makes me cry every time. NOW GO FOR THE WITCHES! (even if they're not lighthearted)

Going Postal, Making Money and Raising Steam make for a nice, fairly light-hearted trilogy. Moist as a protagonist is amazing (he's a con-man roped into Vetinari's machinations); and the City Watch make a couple of appearances (Vimes get some great moments in RS).

I loved Jingo too, the trousers of time & switching Disorganizers is so memorable. Night Watch has to be my favourite DW novel though. Men At Arms was my favourite for a while too. I also agree you should try Moving Pictures too, specially if you're into movies

Loved hearing your choices!!! No idea which is my fave though 😂 If you love Gaspode, maybe try Moving Pictures 😉 Or if you want something a bit quicker, maybe try The Wee Free Men - it’s the first Tiffany Aching, which is the YA branch of witches.

I was just about to recommend these two! And yes - if you love some Gaspode, (who doesn't?), 'Moving Pictures' will make you grin. A lot.

I'd like to disagree - a lotof TWFM is Tiffany dealing with the loss of Granny Aching, DEATH doesn't make an appearance, but there's an ongoing sense of loss in the book.

I think the most exciting aspect of the City Watch books is the recruitment of various species in Ankh-Morpork. Zombies, Dwarves, Trolls, Werewolves, Vampires, Gnomes, Gargoyles, Golems... Oh my!

I just happened on to this video, sorry I'm late to the show. If you want to laugh out loud (literally) often, check out "The Hogfather". Reading "Mort" first will set the scene but isn't strictly necessary. But Death playing a Santa-esque character is just hilarious.

You could try the Tiffany Aching books. Written for younger readers, they are a little more light-hearted and easyer to read. If I remember correctly I think the Summoning Dark thing was started around the time he was first diagnosed with altsimars desiese.

Gaspode is ranked #3 among the Top Ten Dogs in Fiction in UK Penguin Books recently. I’m not good at ranking this since each City Watch book has a special place in my heart, but if I have to rank, it would be more of leaving the first impression (because I just finished the first round. Not at the re-read time yet) So my (supposedly) list-ist?: 1. Guards Guards 2. Nightwatch 3. Thud! 4. Feet of Clay 5. The Fifth Elephant 6. Men at Arms 7. Jingo 8. Snuff

As much as I love Death I love the Witches, I love them almost as much as or equal to the city watch.

Most to least favorite watch books, with my favorite parts: 1 - Night Watch (young Vetinari, his aunt and Rosie) 2 - Guards, Guards (Errol and naive Carrot) 3 - Men at Arms (Cuddy and Detritus) 4 - Feet of Clay (Dorfl) 5 - Jingo (Vetinari's team) 6 - Fifth Elephant (Sybil the diplomat) 7 - Thud (Bashfulson and Diamond) 8 - Snuff (Sybil the letter writer) PS - Moist and Tiffany for lighthearted fun

If you want funny, lighthearted, and just lift spirits the witches books are not a bad shout, but I would plump for the moist trilogy as the most funny, small inconsequential books if the series for just feeling good... but the witches books have it beaten for feelings. But actually, I think you should probably end your read with either moist or Tiffany books. The last 2 books (one each for moist and tiffany) really are meant to be the last two books of the discworld - great send off for the whole thing. Anyway, nice list, always good to hear your thoughts

I agree that timing when reading books is important ! Funny and lighthearted .. try Ties that Tether by Jane Igharo or any book by Mhairi McFarlane

First to last: Night Watch, Thud, Jingo, Feet of Clay, Fifth Elephant, Men at Arms, Guards! Guards!, Snuff. The top two and bottom one are fixed, but its hard to rank the middle bunch. I totally agree that Snuff is weaker. I'm not sure if you're aware, but Terry was suffering pretty heavily from The Embuggerance (a form of Alzheimers) at that point, and I think it really shows in his last 3 books. They're still good books, but not up to his best. And in Snuff, the Summoning Dark becomes a super power, which I don't think Vimes needs. Its different in Thud though. There its Vimes against the dark, and his victory over it is earned. It calls back to *who watches the watchman" in either GG or MAA, and we've seen him overcome his violent instincts, when he puts down the Gonne, and in particular in the basement in Night Watch and when he finally brings Carcer to justice at the end. And the scene in Koom Valley with Vimes shouting out "That Is Not My Cow" is magnificent. Great video. I'll be sure to check out more.

Thank you so much! I had heard that his last few books were weaker due to his being ill, but I wasn't sure where these ones fell in the overall order! That makes sense for sure. I think that the Summoning Dark in Thud was ok, but I think like you said when it became a superpower in Snuff it retroactively tainted it in Thud for me. I agree that Not My Cow was amaaaazing. I want to get the children's book of it to read with my kids 😂

If you want something lighter, try Moving Pictures. It’s the book where Gaspode was first introduced.
