Pipe Heating Cable Installation - Protect Pipe from Freezing in Winter

EPOLY’s pipe heating cable with an integrated energy-saving thermostat will automatically heat up when the temperature drops below 40°F/4°C. To protect water pipes from freezing and bursting in winter, simply applied the cables straight along pipes and then cover the pipes with a layer of thermal insulation. The cables will make up for the heat lost through the thermal insulation and keep the pipes and water inside at a constant temperature

NOTE: just cuz the power indicator light is ON, does not mean the cable is working....test under a bag of ice before installing to save you a lot of hassle

Yes, the indicator light on doesn't mean the cable is "heating", but it indicates the cable is working fine. As the pipe heating cable in the market usually equipped with a mechnical thermostat, it works only when the temperature is down to 40°F/4°C. You can see the black dot in the orange mold, that is the thermostat which should touch the pipe body, so the thermostat can detect it when the pipe drops to below 40°F/4°C.

@@epoly thanks for the response but you are only partially correct. After last November's freeze & broken pipes I test my thermal cables under bags of ice BEFORE installation. Again, just because the plug light comes on does NOT mean the cable is working correctly only that it is getting electricity. I have a failed thermal cable w/working plug light to send you if you want to pay for postage from Seattle.

Normally, the the pipe heating cable starts to heat below 40°F/4°C. If the cable is not heating, it is probably broken.

And you hard wire that to a existing exhaust fan that's already on its own circuit ,?
