I know a lot of people feel nothing could top the studio version of this song, but this one is IT for me. I love it so much, and I definitely cry every time I listen to/watch it. 🌈💗

Totally agree. POWERFUL performance!
First singer is Sam Brown (popular UK and Australian singer, sold over 2.5 million records with her solo album "Stop!"), second singer is Durga McBroom (probably best known to the general public for playing the character "Heels" in Flashdance) and third singer is Claudia Fontaine (was a very busy backup singer, doing backup for Joe Cocker, Pink Floyd and many other artists, she passed in 2018 from an unreported disease, RIP).

This concert was the last performance of the world tour ( I was there) and unfortunately after tour finished Sam Brown developed polyps on her vocal chords and it ended her singing career, so sad.
Raw emotions of transitions into leaving life, stages of dying- anger, fear, resistance, acceptance. Original album track was done by a young woman in 1. 1/2 takes. She improvised it all. Organ is in reference to funerals. Pure feelings and emotions without words.!
The greatest band in music history, taking a step back and allowing their back up singers to be in the spotlight. Demonstrates the caliber of men that they are. The singers are Sam Brown, Claudia Fontaine, and Durga McBroom
Her name is Sam Brown, she has 7 albums
I love both versions. Clare Torry did the DSOM album, and was told to "make it up as you go" so to speak. She did 3 takes (I think). It is superb. These ladies are doing it in front of thousands and no second chances. You actually see their feelings and energy. Both are brilliant - for different reasons.

Indeed she did do three takes. First take phenomenal. Second take phenomenal. Third she stopped halfway through told the band she had already given her best. Packed up her things and left. Didn't know if they liked it or not. Didnt know they used it till the album came out.
Ahhh the greatest instrument in the world! The human voice. Great reaction guys.
There are a couple of other songs on Pulse with great lap steel solos are High Hopes and One Of These Days they are both fire.
As others have said the first lady is Sam Brown she had a hit in the UK called Stop and it is worth checking out, she is the daughter of a guitarist and singer called Joe Brown who was pretty good back in the day too
The studio version was sung by Claire Tory ,she came in as a session singer and had it done in 2 and a bit takes ,she was paid £30 ($15) and left, she was extremely surprised when she appeared on the album, she was finally paid her dues when she went to court and claimed for writing credit as she did improvise the lyrics and got an out of court settlement.
New sub, Ive been to many Floyd concerts since the late 60s but Pulse has to be the best...My ultimate favorite band, This song is about coming to grips with death, conveyed with out words...This totally set the soul a flight...Thanx so much, Peace
If you haven't already done it, do "one of these days " from pulse.. no vocals but AMAZING music AND the craziness of the light show.. definitely a must see
Gilmour's playing a lap steel guitar. They're most often heard in country music. Even if you don't show us, I'd recommend also checking out the Roger Waters live version of the same song, but using two singers. All Floyd tours presented the songs differently, so if you want a taste of what the differences could feel and look like, comparing those would be a great way to get a sense of how the same song can be produced in much different ways, and yet still sound like what we all heard on the albums.
I saw this tour in 1994 in San Antonio Texas at the Alamodome, blown away.
I saw this live on the previous tour ( A Momentary Lapse of Reason tour ) , 3 different backing singers , equally as beautiful
Sam Brown is the blond singer and she had her own career going at this time including a #1 hit single in the UK. Sam was offered a chance to be a "back up singer" with this series of Pink Floyd concerts and she jumped at the chance!
Her singing without words is like her mouth creating music, just like Gilmour makes his guitar notes sound like its singing..
Pushin ur algos...This is my first video with u guys so not sure what all u've seen of Floyd yet, but here is a few...One of my Favs "High Hopes", "Comfortably Numb", "Eclipse", "Breathe", "Wish you were here" just a few, Peace
I wonder how many lucky people were in this audience. It looks huge

Me and it was huge, filled every night of the 4 night run (my friend was there for the 4 of them, lucky bstd ).
This era of Floyd was my favorite. This album was not commercial at all!
A Pink Floyd song, by its own, is generaly very hard to fully comprehend. To get a good understanding, you really have to listen to the full album, from begining to end. This song, like most Pink Floyd song, is like a movie score. The music (and few lyrics) guides you through your own life's experiences and the movie occurs in your head. It's for you alone!
Pink Floyd keyboard player Rick Wright wrote this song, which is about life, gradually descending into death. The spoken words in the beginning are I am not frightened of dying Any time will do, I don't mind Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime I never said I was frightened of dying
On the album it is Clare Torrey the singer; here the 1st is Sam Brown, 2nd is Durga McBroom, 3rd is Claudia Fontaine (who recently passed away). The instrument David is playing is a Console Steel guitar which is a lap steel mounted on a frame, sometimes called a pedal steel.. because it's NOT on his lap. He has played a ZB SS10 10-string pedal steel and an Ovation Custom Legend 1619-4. Peace from Canada.
She is wailing. Sometimes when someone dies, it happens. It comes totally unexpectedly; I did when I saw my Mother die. It is the strangest feeling. It comes from deep, deep within you. I had never done it before and have never done it since. It’s known as a “death wail”.
PINK FLOYD, "GREAT GIG IN THE SKY". CLAIRE TORRE was the original voice on Dark Side of the Moon. Should be noted her, wailing, screaming, tasteful musically melodies were all improvised. All the emotions one goes through in their final moments of life. Then she's quietly echoing into the unknown and then complete silence.
Samantha brown is the blonde singer
David G is playing a pedal steel guitar, usually found in country-western bands! Maybe even a Hawaiian combo now and then! Gotta give every one of those ladies a round of applause for their talents and emotions. The three comprise a heavenly trio, not the mesmerizing sirens who lured sailors to their doom on rocks and reefs. Yodeling wouldn't work with the theme of the album.
Must listen to the studio version of this. Most agree is much better, however these ladies tore it up. You really do need to check out "Shine On You crazy Diamond" 1-5, studio or a Pulse version. Preferably studio first.
Emerson Lake and Palmer live Royal Albert Hall 1992
Emerson Lake and Palmer live Montreux jazz festival 1997 Tarkus/Pictures at an Exhibition ❤️✌🏼🇺🇦
Listen to dark side of the moon full album. 3rd highest selling of all time. Love Pink Floyd’s rich dense arrangements, philosophical lyrics No other band in existence has come close to capturing human emotion with music like they did.
You guys have to react to Rush Territories lyric video it's one of my favorite songs off their 1985 album Power Windows
Talking about feeling. I suggest you to watch Ginette Reno with Celine Dion for the song un peu plus haut. You will discover Ginette singing in french that you will throw you in emotion even if you dont understand french.
Division Bell
Original is Claire Torry
🤔 money from pulse 👍💥
Sam Brown 1st lady not sure of name of 2nd lady. And sadly 3rd lady passed a few years ago
I met David Gilmour back stage at a concert in California 1984. I asked him about the meaning - reason for “Great Gig In The Sky”…. David’s answer was something like…. .I was asked if Pink Floyd would ever do a song about Religion like some others have… so I said, You are referring to the great gig in the sky they call “God“. What words could be used to describe all the pain and suffering caused by religious beliefs. All the crying and wailing from mothers who lost their husbands or sons in a war fought over religious differences. The only vocals should be just the sound of a mothers crying with pain and suffering. That’s the true intentions of the song. We didn’t want to make that public so as to avoid any religious boycott like what happened to the Beatles after Lennon made his comment about Jesus. We could not tell the singer so as to avoid her making any comments that would end up in the media. The speaking heard at the beginning was recorded at Apple records prior to the recording of the song. Roger Waters placed a recorder at the door asking anyone who walked by to answer some questions into the microphone. The janitor stopped and recorded his answer to the question….”Are You Afraid Of Dying”?. It was decided to add the recording to the start of “Great Gig In The Sky”. It leads people to believe the song is about dying, but that is actually not the case. The Great Gig In The Sky…is GOD … The incredible vocals from Clare Torry happened when she did not know what they wanted. David Gilmour told her to pretend her voice is a Saxophone like on other songs on the album, no words, just tones. Results are legendary.
You must listen to this track from the album pulse is cool but not as cool as the album🤷🏻♂️
Why don't u guys react to bts songs?? Plzz do it I'm promise they sound great
Gilmour said the the "great Gig" is God & religion .Never said any words to that effect, cause what happen with Lennon commented about the Beatles being more popular than God. Music was written by Rick Wright for a movie, the director didn't like it. Torry was great but I like Sam Brown better. Singer Durga McBroom singer in several Floyd concerts.
How could you see animals live dude you weren't even born before they broke up were you

Sam Brown the best blues singer.
