The other thing about Dave Gilmour is extensive use of bends. By bending to a note it gives the human brain that split second to arrive at the destination rather than just dropped there by simply plucking the note. Whilst 1, 2 & 3 semi tone bends are not uncommon on some tracks David will bend 4 or even 5 semitones. And if your playing a several minute long solo that's really tough. Again it's not necessary unless you want to make the listener feel themselves riding a wave of emotion and that's where Pink Floyd excel! ❤❤❤

Just 2 tiny corrections The Strat sold for just under $4 MILLION it's NOT the Coloseum (which is in Rome) . This is an Amphitheatre in Pompeii. However, it is an historically important site, in Italy. We can only imagine what "special permits" had to be paid for and how much thry cost😉 Although it probably helped that a Professor at the University of Naples was a PF fan and helped to arrange for the entire site to be closed for 6 days for filming! It still blows my mind they managed to do this in ITALY!

@philshorten3221 String bending is very important to a guitar player, as is playing ahead or behind the timing and before or behind the note . The world is full of guitar technicians who can play any note, riff and solo........but only the best can make those notes, riffs and solos sing.

David's black strat sold for $3,900,000 at auction. The drummer is Nick Mason, who's band "Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets" has been touring and performing Pink Floyd material from 1967-72. The keyboardist who passed is Richard Wright. The unsung hero of Pink Floyd, imo. David's last tour was 2016 after the release of 2015's Rattle That Lock album. There are rumblings he's working on a new album and planning a follow up tour. I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd on July 15, 1994. The second night in Pontiac, Michigan where they first played Dark Side Of the Moon in full in 19 years. I'll never forget it. Great reaction, you two. New subscriber.

David's guitar sound is about feeling ! It's been called spacey, sonic but its really feeling, and there is no pedal invented for that ! One of only a hand full a guitarist that you can tell its him as soon as you hear the music . Saw them when they toured Australia in 1988 in Melbourne. 11 rows dead in front and i can still remember now as i type this ! It was so good my mate and i looked at each other when it finished and at the same time we said , lets come again, and we did ! Pink Floyd is an experience, a feeling , if you don't feel it, then you don't get it ! Cheers from down under 😎🤘

Goza Pink Floyd recorded this clip back in 1971. Echoes Part I&II are on the 1971's Meddle album. Their next album is one of the greatest rock albums in the history of music industry, Dark Side of the Moon released in 1973. This recorded classic is the 1st live event at the ancient coliseum in Pompeii since the year of 79. In 79, Mount Vesuvius erupted and nearly destroyed Pompeii and surrounding areas. Most of victims are citizens of Pompeii frozen in time. They are still there today, nearly 2,000 years ago.

I wish you would have included part 2 of Echoes in your reaction. While I absolutely love Echoes at Pompeii (1971), I completely disagree that this was Pink Floyd at their peak. Their musicianship quality grew continuously well beyond 1971. Even after Roger left the band (and I REALLY hated to see Roger leave), I believe that Mason, Wright, and Gilmour found ways to continually improve their music all they way up through their 1994 Division Bell tour. Their Pulse collection of performances from this tour were outstanding.

That particular Black Stratocaster has gone thru several modifications. David, among many rock guitarist will change their pick-ups, strings, electronics within the guitar, the pots and soldering arrangements as well as the foot peddle effects and custom amplifiers. The final version of that Black Strat sold for $3.8 million along with the powder blue Fender Stratocaster serial number 00001which I don't recall what that one sold for. The Black Strat was purchased by the owner of the Indianapolis Colts. Before the Christies Auction, the whole collection was on a sort of museum tour in LA and NYC where anyone could go see them before the auction event.

I'm glad you homed in on the guitar tone. The ability to penetrate the whole of the arena with a very unique overdriven sound coupled with Nick's fantastic percussion, is what builds all the tension in the vocal half of part 1. If you notice he uses immense bends which seamlessly weld together the building harmony, coupled with vibrato to intensify the long notes. However its that carefully crafted tone (which im sure he experimented with loads in that arena before recording), which makes the solo and the aggressive bursts (mirroring the screams and violent demise of the population) in the second half of part one so mindblowing and chilling.

Hey guys, I have a story to tell you. Back in 1971 I was in the Army and stationed in Colorado Springs. I met this girl at a bar one Saturday night ,she asked me if I wanted to listen to the new Pink Floyd album with her. I said sure. I was 21 years old at the time. I had heard of them, but I had never listened to their music. She also turned me on to Cannabis for the first time Needless to say, I had an out of body experience to another dimension. It's very vivid in my mind. That was some 53 years ago. I I saw them in 87 and 94. Pink Floyd has always been my favorite band after that experience. I spent about three and half years in Hawaii in the middle 70's. I have recently discovered a band from Finland. They are Nightwish. They are a Symphonic Metal band. The current lead singer is Floor Jansen. She is from the Netherlands. I listen to them on a daily basis now. They are now my second favorite band. They are sooo good.

The song is dedicated to Don Allum who was the first (and so far only) person to row the Atlantic Ocean in both directions. A lack of water on his penultimate trip damaged his organs and ultimately killed him (he lived on seawater and fish blood), but not before he managed a third historic voyage. ⛈️🚣☁️

Guitar amp used tubes instead of transistors. Makes a big difference.

Very true but tube amps are common place and I wouldn’t consider them anything special or out of the ordinary. I only use tubes amps as well.

Pinnacle..? They said themselves this was just them experimenting and trying to find their new sound as a band. And if you two know Pink Floyd that well, it's not nuch of a "reaction," is it.

Pink Floyd was named after Sid Barrett's favorite blues players Pink Anderson and Floyd Council combining names and why did you quit after only half the song???

you are surely entitled to your opinion, and I can not say you are wrong, for it is just your opinion, BUT, let me suggest to you to listen to 2 albums before making such a claim, for if the band themselves are to be considered valuable insight into the band, they argue that these 2 albums are their best material, the height of their career. These albums would be Wish You Were Here, and Animals. After reviewing these albums and the material on them, evaluate the band again and see if you still think this early version of Pink Floyd is at their pinnacle.

Went to see the Floyd at Earl's Court in 94 and had a VIP box in Glasgow for Roger Waters on the ' Us and Them ' tour, I would jump at the chance to see Floyd again but not Roger, I didn't appreciate the way he was forcing his political views down our throat. Ps:- Nick Mason plays the drums, sadly it was Richard Wright who played the keyboard may he Rest in Piece, David Gilmore retired 'Echoes ' after Richard passed, may he be playing for whichever god he praised . RIP Richard.
