You mentioned at one point how the album cover could be released now and still be cool...Well, I one of your over 70 years old watchers and I bought ths ablum on vinyl when it came out and I can tell you that the frnt pictutre was considered not suitable to put in the LP racks... so it had to be covered in a black plastic cover.... And all the pictures on the album were taken in camera... no photo shopping or anything.... The guy on flames was a big holywood stunt guy and they set him on fire to get that picture....!!! Keep on Rocking man. Can't wait for you to listen to Animals if you haven't already... I need to now go and check that out.

The very last couple of bars Richard Wright (Keyboards) plays on the album are actually the main riff from the track "See Emily Play" one of Pink Floyds earliest hits written by Syd Barrett. Sadly Syd was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, coupled with the excessive pressures from the Music Industry and easy access to drugs. Syd became unable to play live gigs reliably and after the band had recruited Dave Gilmour to help cover for Syd, they simply decided not to pick Syd up for a gig and went on without him. We should note back in late 1960s Mental Health was not talked about or treated the same as today, and although Roger Richard, Nick and Dave were all extremely well educated young men, they were Musicians not Mental Health Care Professionals.

Roy Harper (who sung Have A Cigar) is an incredible songwriter and singer, but never got much recognition except from his peers. Led Zeppelin has a song called Hats Off To Roy Harper as a tribute to how he kept innovating with his music and never sold out. That song and Have A Cigar is the only place most people will have ever heard him. He also had a minor hit with the single One of Those Days in England (with Wings/Paul and Linda McCartney on backing vocals). His album Stormcock is an absolute masterpiece, as well as Flat Baroque & Berserk. Definitely worth checking out his music.

Roy Harper only provided vocals here, but the factoid was deceiving about him being the most important guitarist you never heard of...led one to believe we'd be getting Roy harper guitar, but when David Gilmour is around, there's no need for any alien guitarring.

As much as I love and appreciate The Beatles for their contributions to music and to our culture in general, I feel like they kind of stayed in the 60s and 70s musically and used their creativity and artistry to experiment with the different sounds that that particular time period had to offer. But Pink Floyd, for me, anyway, exists outside of space and time. They're something altogether different.

Your album format reactions are what Pink Floyd was made for. They were much more interested in constructing an album than creating singles for radio consumption. Animals is a must, but before you do, as others have said, go back a bit first. Meddle, then Obscured By Clouds. THEN, do Animals and The Wall. There is much more to explore, but the Meddle to Wall run is pure sonic gold.

I grew up with Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, UFO, Santana and so much more awesome artists. But what was pretty common, way back, was to tell a story with an album. Those LPs used to be a journey (some would say a trip) with pretty long tracks, in some cases. Personally, i had the privilege to work as steel hand, for the Dark Side of the Moon Tour in Germany (in the 90s) and was able to watch the show three times in a row. Best Rowdies in the world...One of the best times in my life, ever! Vari Lights, Terminator spots, countless Lasers, a burning plane flying through the stadium and a mirror ball, located at front of house. The thing with many of those older bands is: Their lyrics are mostly timeless or contain the same actual problems - like nothing would have changed, since then. 😜 Also, many people don´t realize how popular electronic sounds have been like 60 years ago, already. Hendrix, Kraftwerk, Zappa, Led Zeppelin and others always have been on the hunt for fresh sounds. Many artists experimented with those new sounds and recording methods, envolving quickly with the rising demand of new disortion/reverb amps and organ sounds, dominated by Hammond for decades. It was so funny, to watch someone listening to this beloved masterpiece, clueless about what´s coming. I recommend to watch Echos in Pompei, when we were young and Pink Floyd did this art project in Italy: A live session without any crowd - a must see, besides The Wall^^

Great review, thank you. Understand your love of the superior sound of vinyl and ORIGINAL recordings........the original Dark Side Of The Moon is light years better than all the later remixes and re engineered editions. Especially for The Great Gig In The Sky.......which should always follow Time, like part 2 of the same song. BUT........Pink Floyd live will leave you speachless, from Echoes Live in Pompeii ( 1971 but released in 1972 ) to Pulse in 1994. From the opening ( Shine On You Crazy Diamond ) to the closing number ( Run Like Hell ), it is mind blowing and often better than the original recording.

Also contains the riff that was stolen by Sir Andrew Loyd Webber for the stage show The Phantom of the Opera!

You missed some instrumentation in Shine On. The opening includes what is described on the album as "Glass Harp" which is chords played on wine glasses as can be seen in this live performance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/naWMppeHe82alJc.html (Shine On You Crazy Diamond - David Gilmour live @ Gdansk 2006) You can see the two primary music creators here, in David Gilmour (guitar) and Richard Wright (keyboards). David literally "speaks" with the guitar as well as his vocals. And this version of Wish You Were Here live is also instructive: kzread.info/dash/bejne/amiI04-eca2vm5c.html ( Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited) ) Their light shows were as incredible as their masterful soundscapes when seen live. I saw them live in 1977.... David is still going strong, and one of his 8 children is musically inclined and that daughter looks remarkably like a young David: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hpObs8F9ZdzOcag.html ( David Gilmour and Romany Gilmour - Kokineli ) a photo album set to one of David's solo tunes.

It's mostly a way to have the video be uploaded in the first place. If I let big parts of the music in without commentary or editing on top it wouldn't allow me to upload. Sometimes you gotta hate the game not the player. A different approach would be to take a song. Say nothing. Edit it down to 1min and then have the commentary separated. You might've seen other channels do it differently. But music labels are treating me harsher. I've pissed off all of them at this point. And after many other videos by artists like the Beatles or Beyoncé have been taken down already I just want the video to be up. Even if some people might not enjoy the style as much. Also I was drunk and that gets me chatty 🥰
