Finally, some love and respect for the Division Bell. I don't care what anyone says, I love this album. And that guitar solo might be my favorite out of any Pink Floyd song.

That album will always have a special place in my heart. It was my gateway to classic Floyd and 'Coming Back to Life' is the reason I picked up guitar. It may not have the sardonic wit nor existential depth of Waters era Floyd, but I think its sounds absolutely amazing and there are some classic tracks. The only song on it I don't really listen to is 'What Do You Want From Me'. I'm not quite sure why.

@@mirandak3273 That's the beauty of music :) It's by no means a 'bad' tune and he does play the guitar until his fingers are sore ... I forgot about 'Take it Back'. Love how it flows into the next track but it's not my favourite. What Do You Want From Me is a better song.

High Hopes is a journey into reminiscing about your past where things seemed better, brighter and more exciting, where everything and anything was possible. This song always takes me back to my childhood, friends long departed and the freedom of youth. Can’t listen to it without getting misty-eyed. Simply beautiful.

This is the song I listened to after my father's funeral at 16. Nothing hits that note of lamenting the road that was missed and lost quite like this song. The horizon never crossed. Yet, it has a spark of hope in it. A possibility of triumph somewhere down the line if we look for it.

Mark, I'm not big on watching KZread videos or music reactors, but it's such a treat when one of yours drops about a song or band that's been a part of my life growing up. Your unfiltered emotions and commentary are so rare to find, and help me feel like I'm not just becoming a grumpy old(ish) man for feeling like so much of present day popular music is devoid of meaning, talent, or any 'timeless quality' that will make it still relevant decades later. Gratifying to see some from other generations can still be moved by the music of my youth, as I have been. Also great to see the rapidly growing success of your channel! Keep up the awesome journey.

The last two lines of the song "The endless river, forever and ever" are a reference to See Emily Play, one of Pink Floyd's earliest songs, under Syd Barrett. That'd be a great song for react to, both as a taste of early Pink Floyd, and as an introduction to 1960's psychedelic rock.

Sooo happy that you did this, thank you! ❤️ I agree, this song is like a painting, an utterly beautiful one. If you decide to also check out the live version (from Pulse), you'll be rewarded with some exquisite visuals to go with it. Your comment about prison and freedom makes sense - every listener will have their own interpretation, but I think it's about the freedom of childhood and having high hopes about the future, but then, when growing up, nothing turned out the way you hoped. Your dreams are quashed by the "prison" of adulthood, so you long back to younger and freer times.

What a great reaction to one of the most emotional songs ever put to vinyl. If you watch the official video (or the Pulse version), you will see that this is a retrospective of their career as a band (with a heartfelt final tribute to Syd Barrett) - a perfect closing track to their final full studio album (with Rick Wright - RIP). The actual last one - The Endless River - was all material written for the Division Bell, without lyrics. The only song written for that album is the final, title track. David Gilmour wrote the music, and his wife (Polly Samson) wrote the lyrics - and he absolutely kills the outro solo (lap steel guitar).

I’d still recommend doing the PULSE Live version, along with One Of These Days and Great Gig (both PULSE Live) for the incredible trio of glorious slide guitar genius 👍 Also; love the lyric “Where the speechless unite in a silent accord” from On The Turning Away Congrats on breaking 33k followers I believe the picture shown was meant to represent the [at the time] current Floyd members - the two faces looking at each other, creating the 3rd, as a whole 👍

It's interesting that you spoke about having the right frame of mind to listen to Floyd properly. This is sorta what we Floyd-i-acs have been bitching about all along: the album has a theme and tells a story. It can totally melt your mind...if you go in with the right mindset. Hearing one track at a time is ok, but I fear you're missing out on the grand vision. Cheers, Mate.

It's truly a movie for the mind, and listening to it piecemeal is like reading random chapters from a book. You can get the flavor, but you'll never understand the story. .... But maybe he just can't handle it? (poking the bear) ;)

Hey Mark; knowing your background of science and helping people, it would help to read the lyrics of their songs when you have time. Your assessment of the music is spot on; reading the lyrics will just bring it all together. Pink Floyds music is a journal of everyones experience in the world but is based on their own journey through life. It is deep and philosophical but relatable. Music for the mind and soul.

The song is driven by nostalgia and irony. He is remembering the days of childhood (the grass was greener, the taste was sweeter), meeting up with his friends….the “nights of wonder”. But ambition drove them all in different ways (The ringing of the division bell had begun) they all burned bridges behind them. He’s nostalgic, yearning for those innocent days of childhood…….but still driven forward ……….The endless River…….Mark, you are SO into the lyrics of rap, but the lyrics of Floyd are equally important. Might I suggest that after absorbing the emotional impact of the music, stop the recording process and take time to read the lyrics and then come back and tell us what they mean to you.

Great reaction Hector. I'd recommend the Live in Pompeii High Hopes version filmed in 2017. David Gilmore goes back to Pompeii, but this time he plays for an audience. I believe it to be better than the Pulse version because not only did he make it back to Pompeii at 70 years of age but the ending of the song is so eloquent with his flamenco style guitar playing that was not a part of the Pulse version.

Another great reaction Hector! Love that you are able to appreciate everything about Pink Floyd that us older generations have had the pleasure of listening to for 50+ years! There is no better band IMO. Not only are they masters at their music but every song has something meaningful to say. They make you think and wonder about so many different things. The amount of talent these guys had and have is insane! True genius on every level when comes to music. I've seen them live many times, along with many, many other bands over the years and none has ever compared. Not that the other concerts were bad in any way, they were great too, but Pink Floyd was just their own genre or class. Always came away with minds blown by the music and talent of this band!

Please react to the sound of LOS JAIVAS. One of the most important and influential bands of Latin American progress rock. La Poderosa Muerte" is a song by the Chilean group Los Jaivas, belonging to their album Alturas de Macchu Picchu, released in 1981, and composed from the texts of Pablo Neruda in the poem of the same name, which was published in his extensive work General Song, 1950. If you like Pink Floyd this will blow your mind and you will feel all the power of Latin American music to the last cell of your body. GREETINGS FROM CHILE 🇨🇱

Everything you said about Pink Floyd needing to be listened to in a certain way is correct. For you young un's it seems a plan might be needed. Well, in the old days, with the turn table and a record, we used to listen just like that - maybe in a beanbag chair or laying on the bed. You'd stare at the album cover and sleeve notes looking at the art, the photos, the words. Think about them. Maybe you'd close your eyes. or maybe sort of stare and lose focus and let your mind wander. This is when the pictures or thoughts or memories come. Today's way of listening to music having the video tell you how to interpret it, focusing on the words rather than the music, is not conducive to the old way old listening. The majority of songs from my past that I love, I sometimes have no idea what the words are or or even what the songs are about, it was first and foremost about the sound and the music taking you somewhere.

I still think this is one of the most underrated albums of all time. I remember it coming out when I was younger and I thought how lucky I was to get to experience a new Pink Floyd album. Still to this day not many things give the nostalgia that this gives me. Thank you good sir for all that you do 🙏

I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd for 50 years, and every time I listen to a cut, I miss not hearing them since the last time. That’s why no one will ever top their music, and I love tons of other bands... just not as much as Pink Floyd !! Cheers !!!

So, you worked your way round to The Division Bell - good choice! It's very intense and melodic, but will still throw you some curves. Several other great songs you'll love on this one: Poles Apart (my personal favorite), Take It Back, What Do You Want From Me? Thanks for another fun reaction, Mark - now, quit reading the damn comments (kidding!!!) and get busy reacting to more Pink Floyd!

I moved to the USA, from England, when i was 10. By the time i got to high school, i was lost. Trying to adapt to a new culture, trying to "fit in". Pink floyd entered my life and instantly, i was close to whole again. Thank you Pink Floyd for mending my soul.
