"Comfortably Numb" is one of the most iconic songs by the British progressive rock band Pink Floyd. It was released in 1979 on their album "The Wall," which was written largely by Roger Waters, the bassist and primary lyricist of the band.
The song is known for its powerful guitar solos and haunting lyrics. It's often considered one of Pink Floyd's greatest achievements and has been hailed as one of the greatest rock songs of all time.
"Comfortably Numb" features dual lead vocals, with David Gilmour singing the verses and Roger Waters singing the chorus. The lyrics convey a sense of emotional detachment and numbness, possibly influenced by Waters' feelings of alienation and disillusionment during the time of writing "The Wall."
The song is particularly famous for its mesmerizing guitar solos, notably the extended guitar solo performed by David Gilmour. The solo, which occurs towards the end of the song, is often cited as one of the greatest guitar solos in rock history.
"Comfortably Numb" has been covered by numerous artists and has been featured in various films, television shows, and commercials over the years. Its enduring popularity and critical acclaim have solidified its place as one of Pink Floyd's signature songs.

When I bought "Dark Side of the Moon" in '73, I did just that. Had the posters from the album hung next to my poster of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant from their concert at Madison Square Garden in '73, from "The Song Remains the Same" movie. Had my black light on and, as they say, the rest is history.

I would go as far to say that he plugs into his Heart, Spirit and Soul, 🙂
Not only is Gilmour one of the best guitarists of all times, but he’s also very humble and down to earth if you watch interviews.
The verse that starts with, "When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse...." gets me everytime.
Pink Floyd were absolute masters of live performances. Their attention to detail is evident every time they perform live.
Pink Floyd not only gives you EPIC performance musically, but also visually. I was lucky enough to see them in 1994.

Seeing Pink Floyd Live was a Religious Experience. Ohio State Stadium with over 150 Thousand People Easy Probably closer to 200 Thousand. They played for 3 and half hours minus a 45 minute break. Greatest concert in my life and the Best Light Show Ever. His music will last forever.

pink floyd has several singers. the guitar is one of them....
Pink Floyd made concept albums. If you guys ever decide to do whole album reviews, Pink Floyd should be your choice.
The whole Pulse concert is life-changing! This wasn't even the finale!
That's one of my favorite guitar solos of all time...and, what a light show!!!
David Gilmour guitar solo so beautiful and his voice is good to love this song
For over 40 years that line ' When I was a child I caught a fleeting glinpse out of the corner of my eye....' gets me emotional every time I hear it. Great reaction , love your work.
This concert is from 1994 .The song is from 1979 The Wall album which is a concept album that is a story about a character named pink based on bassist Roger Water's life from a young child losing his father in the war and all the trials and tribulations of life that have cause him to self isolate (Build the wall ) best listened to from song one til the end there is also a movie of the same name Pink Floyd The Wall . I saw this show live at the Pontiac Silver Dome just out side of Detroit aprrox. 6-8 months before this video was made. I've been to over 200 concerts this is by far the best I've seen . Pink Floyd isn't just music it's an experience.

Yep. There’s that one word EVERYBODY says after this is WOW. Good to see you enjoyed this.
Pink Floyd named their band after two African American Blues musicians … Pink Andersen & Floyd Council Music is ALL the COLORS ❤
This concert is off the chains, prolly one of the top two of ALL time. The production, engineering, sound, and raw talent of all of them excelling in their craft. Pick any song from that concert, heck do em all.
Pink Floyd was their own genre. They blazed trails, took risks, did all the unconventional things and won.
You guys now need to watch "On the turning away", "Great gig in the sky" and "Wish you were here" from the same concert. (Pulse)

"Leo Fender made the guitar, God made Dave Gilmour to play it."
"Sorrow" from "Pulse" is also fantastic guitar work from Sir David Gilmour.
"ECHOES" (Live in Pompeii 1971/72) ..... "Shine on you crazy Diamond" (Studio Album)
"High Hopes" - from the same concert, is another classic performance, and for sheer contrast, "Echoes" - performed live from ancient Pompei , in the early 70's

Nice reaction . If you liked this song then you will love Sorrow, High Hopes, Great Gig in The Sky.
One of the greatest bands ever
No band puts on a live performance like Pink Floyd, and David Gilmour guitar speaks to a persons soul,...
They played live in Gdansk, Poland among the many places they've performed. That's the shipyard where the Solidarity movement began, arguably leading to the demise of the Soviet Union. One of the songs played was "High Hopes". That particular performance is spectacular!
Thanks for digging on some Floyd w us !! Woot Woot !! I got to see them LIVE in the Superdome on the Division Bell Tour.... It was like an out of body experience for me. David Gilmour's guitar is mesmerizing, transcending, it takes you places you never thought a guitar could take you? I will never forget that night. Pink Floyd and David Gilmour, my fave band and guitarist !! Try Shine on you crazy Diamond, Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar
And that is not at the end of the show, there are more songs after this. What a light show!
The ending guitar solo in this is one, is one of the like 5 most famous guitar solos in rock history. It has a life of its own.
"Us and them" (studio ver.) Should def be next.

Pink Floyd is Out of this World and definitely out of this Universe while trippin on shrooms 🍄.
I have to say it!! When you see them live, it feels like they should be giving out mushrooms at the door! ❤❤✌️ Luckily, I brought my own. 😆😁
October 20th 1994 was the best day of my life. I was at this concert at earls court London England while I was in the navy. Everything about the pulse concert was over the top when they played money the crowd went nuts . You should react to great gig in the sky at pulse concert. I was also at this exact concert. A life event for me and the only time I had tears in my eyes at the end !
One thing about this concert - the impeccable quadraphonic sound… you could feel it in your bones, yet it didn’t hurt your ears
"The child is grown, the dream is gone." Brutal truth for us all.
The look on your faces said it all as that epic solo came to an end. I first heard this when I bought "The Wall" in '79 and 45 years later I still get the chills when David lets his Strat sing the end of this piece. Live it is even more awesome.
Let this be a lesson, kids, your grandpa's can rock.
🎼There will never be another guitarist like David Gilmour. Or another keyboardist like Richard Wright. Or another drummer like Nick Mason.☮️
Art and the pure joy on Corey’s face! Thank you, friends ❤🇬🇧
Man . . . you guys talk about my youth like it was the stone age and music was bangin' sticks on logs. I feel so old!
No matter what the band says about the lyrics, that it was inspired by one of them feeling ill before a show and getting some kind of a shot, this song is really a perfect description of someone getting deeper into psychosis (schizophrenia). He's trying to describe how it feels, but feels that the listener can't understand. He's getting comfortably numb, that is, retreating from the pain of the real world, and the first guitar solo is in a major key, and very hopeful. He's given some medication so he can get on the stage and perform, but then he returns to his numb state, and the second solo, in a minor key, is very anguished and sad, which says to me that he's not really comfortably numb at all, but tortured. IMHO, although it fits into the storyline of The Wall, I believe it's about Syd, the original band member who had to leave due to schizophrenia. They have many songs about him (Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, etc.)

I always thought it was about heroin, popular back then .
You should really listen to the entire Wall album all the way through! It's truly a work of art!!!
Beyond the literal description of a doctor giving a band member drugs, there is the deeper level of how our world can destroy compassion and love. The first guitar solo is the euphoria of comfortable numbness to face anything, then the second solo of lament of now being comfortably numb and the loss of connection and isolation. All expressed in music. That fleeting glimpse of love by a child, now lost in the modern man. Incredible.
Consider, this video was like the 17th night of an 18 night stand. Seen them their last 3 tours, this was their best by far.
I read once (and could be wrong) that Pink Floyd was the first band to use lights and projections for effects during live performances.
you know a classic when it still sounds awesome 40 years later
You don't just listen to Pink Floyd, you experience it. ✌🏽
I was at the Pink Floyd - Pulse concert July 1994 in East Rutherford, NJ. Giant Stadium . It was the best concert that I have ever seen or even imagined.
Pink Floyd, weed and big speakers. The best of times. This is a masterpiece and is better than the album version. When David Gilmore opens his mouth, I get chills. Great reaction to a beautiful piece of art.
That stage show would still be incredible to see today. Try to imagine seeing this live 25 years ago. No other band was even close to this on stage. Of course the music is spectacular, it is Pink Floyd after all. They don't play a lot of notes, just all the right ones.

I believe it was, at the time, the most expensive set to go on tour and the highest grossing rock tour. They had three sets. So they could be playing on one whilst another was being set up in the next city and the previous set being taken down to move on again.
Everything from this Pulse concert is incredible. Most would probably say this is the penultimate song from this concert but I actually like their performance of Sorrow even better. Check that one out; it's incredible!
Experiencing the pulse tour in the late 80's is something that will never leave me.

It was called the Division Bell tour and was in 1994. Are you thinking of the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour?
Even though it's from a whole other era, you still can hear the age-old Chuck Barry riff in the guitar solo.
I saw this live i Copenhagen 94, it is still the best most epic show I ever saw
Well done, gentlemen. I'm not a young man any longer, but listening to Pink Floyd always brings me back to my youth mentally. To think that this song is 45 years old and impacted you all in this way is testament to its greatness. That said, I STRONGLY recommend that you listen to an even older piece of Pink Floyd's music. In 1973 I was a senior in high school and the band released what I consider to be the greatest album ever produced, The Dark Side of the Moon. To give you an idea of just how highly respected this album is, it was listed on the Billboard Top 200 for 942 consecutive weeks! That's not a typo. That's over 18 consecutive YEARS on the charts! It's the longest Billboard charted album by far, and there's a reason for it. It's simply hypnotic. Having listened to and appreciated Comfortably Numb, you owe it to yourselves to listen to the band's masterpiece. Listen to it from beginning to end. I have no doubt that you'll all be glad you did.
Best live guitar solo ever. The whole Pulse concert is epic. Don’t forget David Gilmour’s ‘Remember that night’ live concert. Pink Floyd was, is and will always be my most favorite band; for five decades already.
I was at this concert. Ahoy Rotterdam, November 1993. Ahoy known for it's unbelievable acoustics. When the ball opened up everybody's jaw dropped... it was above me in the arena. This was an experience, not just a concert... David Gilmore has Guitar god status ❤🎉
If this performance doesn't give you chills nothing will
From the same Pulse Concert, please check out SORROW and also RUN LIKE HELL.
Please gents, I implore you, please, Dark Side of the Moon....but experience it as it's meant to be experienced as a whole!!! 👍 It will change you😉
Roger Waters once said of David Gilmour that he could make a ukulele sound like a Stradivarius. Pink Floyd music flows over you like a cool stream on a hot day.
Best concert I ever went to nobody comes close to live shows like the Floyd nobody, zero, natta,
The Pulse album is probably the best LIVE album I’ve ever heard.
One doesn't merely listen to Pink Floyd, one experiences them! Welcome to the rabbit hole boys.
Great big shout out to David Gilmore for that guitar solo!! Fine job fellas 😊
There is a professional tribute band called Britt Floyd that tours. If you ever have a chance, go see them. It’s the closest you will come to Pink Floyd in concert.
Now imagine going to this concert as a teenager, first concert ever, and being stoned on some pot and two hits of window pane! This becomes a life altering experience!
I saw this tour 4 times in NY and New jersey. Tremendous! especially cause i ate 3 hash brownies beforehand. Gilmours vocals and solo launched my soul to the heavens! Never forget it, EVER!
Heidi is in that clandestine group of people who go channel to channel requesting the same songs over and over that actually get their requests answered. I wonder what it takes to join that group. A dozen people have reacted to this in the last 2 weeks. It's not coincidence.
You guys just witnessed absolute greatness.
20 years old a coworker had 2 tickets to this tour to sell me. The only money in my bank account was for my car insurance. The concert was worth it!!!
Another epic rock band the Brit’s graced us with. Thank you England for decades of mind blowing music .
You don't listen to Pink Floyd ... you EXPERIENCE Pink Floyd.
Saw this tour at the Oakland Coliseum. I remember when the white lights appeared above Dave's head and thinking it looked like God had pulled out a magnifying glass so he could get a better look. Then it became a giant halo. Then the disco ball exploded, followed shortly by my head. Good show! And still the best part for me was them opening with Astronomy Domine! 🤘🧙♂🤘
You gentlemen are so cool
The concert was 1996 Earls Court London, I've owned it in VHS DVD and now blue ray.. the best thing about it is it always sounds fantastic no matter how many times you listen to it.

1994. I remember getting the album on CD. That little light kept blinking for ages! I recorded the concert on VHS, there was a broadcast of it on UK tv back in day.
The advice I will give you is that Pink Floyd albums are a story, they should be listened to as such right from the beginning to the end. Just masterpieces excellent masterpieces. Having been in my teenagers in the 70s I was introduced to Pink Floyd and was just taken away. They truly are one of the most special bands ever.
I remember the Wall movie when I was in “high” school . I fell 100 miles in that chair during this song
The greatest version of the greatest guitar solo of all time. And making the guitar sing is exactly what David Gilmour does.
I saw the wall tour live just like then when I saw David Gilmore turn up his volume before the last solo it gave me chills again. If you haven't seen the Wall Movie watch it this song scene is awesome!
Check out Sorrow from the same concert. Any song from this concert was amazing. This concert was from 1994. The song was written in 1979. This concert was 30 years ago! ! Crazy good!
David Gilmour is a guitar God 🎸
