I was wondering whether the chrous had a D and A chord since I'm learning guitar and I heard the 2 chords when listening to the song. Guess I was right, means I'm getting better at spoting notes being played. Also been practicing that first solo, not as great as Gilmour yet, but Im getting there.

Here's what sets this apart: 5:31. That flourish, that little "chikkachikkawahhh" bit - almost NOBODY who goes to the trouble of learning the rest of this solo ever seems to get that bit right. They always throw in some other flourishy thing or just play through it, but they don't get that percussive, crunchy sound, and this guy NAILED it. I can't play guitar, so I'm fascinated - why is it that people who can play the rest of this solo so well don't get that bit right, ever?

I don't agree with that statement actually.... I've heard a couple of players getting closer to David's playing than this one... Bjorn Riis from gilmourish.com and guitarist for Airbag is one of them... 😉 That being said, the guitarist on this video is a very good player indeed. But there is way more to David's playing and solos than hitting the exact same notes as on the album recording. The way David frets the strings, bends, attacks with the pick, various types of vibrato (hands and trem bar), all the little (or big) inflections he does with the trem bar, hit timing, and of course hit tone. And lastly, all the "new" little thing he puts in every time he plays/performs the song. As for being "closer than David Gilmour ever was after recording it", again, see the above. Plus, David played it like that, on that take, that ended up on the album. When he plays live he PLAYS the song/solo, he does not COPY himself playing on the album track. He obviously respects the main structure and soul of that solo, but he plays it a little different every time, adds new things to it every time! Usually a lot of listeners and even musicians get obsessed with every single detail on the album version of the songs, every note, when they try to play the song, that they end up COPYING the recording and forget to PLAY the song. Copying his NOTES is the easiest part, capturing his FEEL and magic and the WAY he is playing those notes takes a lifetime, and most never succeed. Whenever i listen to someone play this song, for instance, i instantly know it's not David playing 99% of the times because of that, but sometimes i get someone that comes close to his FEEL on the guitar, and it makes me wonder... and check out who's playing. I've listened to, literally, hundreds of "versions" of this song played by David on all the PF tours and his solo tours, he always plays it slightly different every single time, and i'd take a few dozens of those "versions" to the original album version (2nd solo wise). The best for me are the Pulse and the Gdansk versions. 😉

Hello? (Hello? Hello? Hello?) Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone home? Come on now I hear you're feeling down Well I can ease your pain Get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts? There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb I have become comfortably numb Okay (okay, okay, okay) Just a little pinprick There'll be no more, ah But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on it's time to go There is no pain you are receding A distant ship, smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone I have become comfortably numb
