Pine Ridge: Session One

Through the voices of the residents of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Pine Ridge: Session One explores life and community-based development in one of the poorest counties of the U.S.A. Through grassroots community action, traditional families called "Tiyospayes" are pursuing their vision to reclaim, restore, and utilize their remaining land base, reversing a 100-year old policy of the U.S. Government to make their lands accessible to non-tribal farmers and ranchers.

Wonderful people and wonderful nation. Unfortunately many times they are cheated and used for their own goodness. I do not understand why the graves are marked by the cross when it is the mark of their enemy and forced to receive the faith in force. Go back to your roots, learn your language and be proud of your nation. God bless you and give you a long life.

I knew straight away it had to be black mold. It is lethal in uninsulated housing. It is a major concern in my country where the weather is moderately hot & cold. It is prevalent in most inadequate housing. It doesn't matter whether it's privately owned or if it's a rental property. The climate determines what can grow, the people as in the residents can only do a clean up with whatever they have available to them. The best remedy is to give it a good clean before the mold spores begin spreading throughout the house. Once the mold begins to form like little bubbles it means that it's reproducing so it forms spores become airborne. That is what is causing all the respiratory problems. Most people mistake this as asthma. Why the hell the doctors or at least the mortician who do the autopsies haven't told you guys the truth is beyond me. This is basic science, but when you lose two young babies because of it then that could be considered malpractice if they haven't properly informed you. Get your tribal reps to employ a lawyer. Surely you guys have a lawyer of any kind there on the reservation. The walls & ceilings can be cleaned as often as possible to prevent the mold from starting. Personally I use newspaper as a cloth & warm water with bleach or janola in it. This was what my grandmother suggested using because she said that the ink in the newspaper was a deterrent, though she really couldn't explain it scientifically & bleach/janola had ammonia in it which mold does not like. Also, you do need to know that even when it's wet, it helps to have some ventilation in the home to avoid the condensation from forming pools of water droplets on the ceilings. I'm surprised that the doctor hasn't told you that black mold is hazardous to everyone's health. This is outrageous!!!

An excellent documentary, addressing important issues. I realize that this is an old video, but all reservations need to be brought out of the Third World conditions that exist there, and provided real help. The Internationale at the end, was unecessary I think... Humanness, kindness, empathy, unity, and assistance should transcend politics!
