I've been trying to figure out button packaging and hadn't thought of cutting a slit in paper to secure them...what a great idea :D Thanks for making this video!

Great idea! I love the themed design on the backer. So pretty! The e-xacto knife cuts are a fantastic idea! I've been using a hole punch and end up bending the backer trying to get the buttons on. I will change my method! Thank you for this!

I just bought a button maker, so I can start to try this method of yours out!! The thing I struggled to figure out the most was how to pin them to a backing card, and the slit was exactly the answer I was looking for! 😁

I've been experimenting with button packaging, but stumbled across this video entirely by accident while looking at other things. The slit method for attaching buttons to a card is way easier than what I was using, and I'm definitely going to incorporate it into whatever packaging I come up with. Good timing on this video! I just sold my first button on ebay and immediately realized I had no idea how to package it. I've sold a lot of secondhand/vintage stuff on ebay including larger, breakable items, but the silly little 1.25" button really threw me for a loop and it took me a while to figure out what to do with it. Eventually I just pinned it to a piece of cards stock, wrapped it up and threw it in a poly mailer. But the slit idea is SO much better, and I love the idea of using business cards as well!

I have more than 4,000 buttons in my collection going back generations. I started collecting when I was 12 and I'm 69 now. I told my granddaughter that I wanted to leave them to her but now I'm having second thoughts as I don't think she appreciates just exactly what it is. I used to display them all on my walls but I ran out of space. I wonder if I could leave them to a museum or something and if they'd display them. IDK.

That sounds like an amazing collection. Just to see what was popular throughout the years. Perhaps photographing each and every one and then posting it to Instagram could bring interest and a great way to put the collection on display .

i like to use craft foam. you can pierce it with the pins and holds nicely.

With printing costs, foam sheets might be more cost effective as well. I saw Baylee Jae used that method, but my love of printing different backgrounds stops me from switching over. lol

The Hello Kitty there is from a recycled candy wrapper and not for sale, so when it comes to personal use, you're in the clear to make pretty much whatever you want. However, if you plan on selling them the rules are different. Making a profit from other people's intellectual property (like popular copyrighted characters) is risky, you may face legal action if you choose to do so. Certain companies say it's okay to do so with their characters (which is rare), while others are very strict. It's always best to do your research before selling any fan art item. When it comes to your own art and characters, it's also good to look into getting a copyright for yourself so you have the same legal back up if someone were to do the same with your art/characters. 👍 Hope this helped!

For individual buttons I have a big board displaying all my designs and when people pick which ones they want, or build their own 5-pack, I make them "fresh" at the table with my machine. For the pre-made 5-packs, I usually make 5 of each pack before the convention, and then I make more of each pack as needed at the convention. That way I'm not wasting any stock on designs that don't sell, and making the buttons at your table usually attracts people because they like to watch how they're made.

I typically print 20 of each page, and since the pages each fit about 25 buttons (of this size 1.25"). So far that's been more than enough and I've never run out of anything on the convention floor.

What is the size of the card for the 5 pack

Off the top of my head I don't remember, it's either 4.25"x6.25" or 4.5"x6.5" Sightly larger than a standard 4"x6" postcard so it fits the hang bag

What size do you print the backer cards to fit the bags that you posted in the link?

Your easiest bet is probably to figure out the size of whatever bags you're going to buy and design cards to match that size ☺️

@@FranksShitBoxCollection I believe 100 lb paper is what we consider regular card stock. 14 pt and 16 pt should be closer to what would be used for a postcard, so they might be overkill. You won't really know what's best for you until you see/hold/test it though so you could try getting some test prints done:)

I made the backer cards slightly smaller than 4"x6", so they can fit in a 4"x6" plastic hangtag bag.

These were really cool ideas, but I would never eat anything a seller sent me, you just never know.
