Trimming an animal’s nails is usually one of the easiest procedures you can do. My cat: becomes possessed by the devil himself when you try to clip his back nails.

The pigs don't look that used to the owners being in their enclosure and coming close to touch them. They are certainly not used to cuddling, by the looks of it. And then the owners just keep hovering and chasing them around. It's no wonder the pigs refuse to relax into the sedation.

1:19 they look like egg rolls it’s so adorable lmao
Im in the same boat, I have to get my pigs hooves trimmed at least 1-2 times a year, and we have to give her extra sedation because she fights it so bad
This was all done so very well! The vet, the owners love for their pigs and it appears there wasn’t hardly any stress to the pigs. North of Toronto Ontario Canada we don’t have “pig farriers”. Horse ones most def do not do pigs here. I’m a vet tech and I have a large animal vet come and sedate my 220-230lb PB pig to do his hooves, oral exam, bloodwork etc . (I can’t do them anymore myself) Yes sedation is a huge risk with pigs. The right sedation drug combo- dependant on the individual pig, proper monitoring during the sedation and then most definitely post sedation is key. Some comments are so judgmental here…. So - Unless you actually own a pig and understand the stress you experience seeing your pig in such discomfort bc of his hooves or other issues and then experiencing & seeing how stressed / worked up they get by either pinning them down or “flipping them” w/o sedation (which you can’t get everything needed done thoroughly either btw) pls don’t pass negative judgment on us and the veterinarians! Anyhoo, adorable piggies and I am glad everything worked out well!! 🐖 🐷
I love that he is just about twice as tall as the women.

So true Dr.Chris Brown is a legend 👍
The pigs with long nails are so adorable .They look so cuddly.
Clipping pig's hooves are not easy, most pigs don't like having their feet touched. Generally, you need to sedate pigs to get the job done. I'm actually surprised to hear that sedation didn't work the first time. Often I would have to inject my own pet pigs before the veterinary came in, if you're gentle with the injection, pigs won't kick up much of a fuss. I love pigs, they're independent and intelligent. They can look after themselves but also enjoy human company, especially if there is food or belly rubs involved. EDIT: I am now aware that professional pig farriers exist. If you have a pet pig that needs its hooves trimmed, contact a professional pig farrier first.
@ilovebritishppl
3 жыл бұрын
I'm a nonsedation pig farrier. This is unfortunately not the proper way to trim a piggie's hooves. Sedation is only necessary in extreme cases, and even after sedation, a lot more shaping of the hooves should have been done. As much as I love Chris, education on pig hooves is few and far between.
@clovergreen366
2 жыл бұрын
U never need to sedate a pig just for hoof and tusk trims. Vets sedate because they ars scared and not properly trained Thata what a professional pig farrier needs to be used and not vet

was I the only one who noticed you could put shoulder ride those ladies and they'd still be shorter than Chris?
Those pigs were huge!! It’s amazing how sedation makes a job like this easier. I could do my dog’s nails if there was something to mildly sedate him. It would take less than 5 minutes to do them.😂😂

@@sebastienmonette6659 Not really. Yes, pigs will just eat and eat and get bigger when they have a good food source. But naturally, they would also have to work to forage and move around a lot, keeping the weight down. To say this is natural is like saying it’s natural for a human being to be 700lbs. A person who is gaining all the weight would just keep gaining weight based on a steady stream of readily available food at hand and lack of activity required to acquire food. In both cases you end up with being that is very unhealthy with a great deal of stress being placed on heart/lungs etc.

Why he left
The nerve in a pig's foot extends further into the hoof than the blood vessels; therefore you're more likely to hit this before you cause any bleeding. If your pig starts to moan this could mean you've hit the nerve, stop trimming immediately if this is the case.
