Just to let you know how much teachers like you are remembered by their students... I am 24 (almost 25) and went through all schooling and only ONE teacher I remember when I was 14 actually taught me critical thinking. In one year he got me from an E/F student in Physics to finishing on an A, which purely stemmed from him changing how I viewed learning/motivation (and he was just really cool and made the environment fun). I ended up getting into math because of that, which led me to computer science at uni, and now im developing games and am very happy. I think sometimes what path I would have went down without that ONE teacher. And you are exactly the sort of thinker which can teach kids the same, appreciate you and I hope you have a fruitful career!

And alot of that, education vs indoctrination, involves an unlearning of everything you've been taught, especially the polarized topics of belief. There's literally a lie hidden within every beLIEf, often times the lies we tell ourselves; and history is always written by the Victors, it's his story afterall. 😅 It's not nature vs nurture, but rather the integration and utilization of both. It's not holistic health vs modern medicine, but the integration and utilization of both. Where are we individually polarized, and why? This is a key to self awareness, and the ability to be a critical thinker -- beyond the reach or scope of the psychological & emotionally manipulative tactics of today's modern governs of mind I mean governments.

JK Rowling is a transphobe. She has had multiple opportunities to clarify her position and continues to tweet out inflammatory and exclusionary remarks, associate herself with other transphobes and fund exclusionary groups. The Harry Potter actors distanced themselves from her despite not having any incentive to do so. The fact that the student repeated what his peers told him doesn't make him wrong. @@MCVOfficialKZread The mature are those who develop by practice to discern the right from the wrong - Hebrews 5:14. Isaiah 1:18 - Come and let us reason together, though your sins are like scarlet they shall be as white as snow; though they are like crimson they shall be as wool. I don't know, man, perhaps if you read the Scriptures for yourself and don't adopt a silly creed-it seems as though Christianity seems pretty reasonable. The problem arises when you separate the three threads of evidence you use to discern truth. Scripture alone leads to over 51,000 different Christian groups all arguing that the Bible is the basis of their faith. Science alone leads to evolutionism and godlessness. Personal experience alone leads to mystery religions and eastern philosophy. Yet, there really is no gray area or compromise when it comes to the laws of health, laws of physics, or the laws that govern the stars and celestial bodies. To put it simply, people have went awry because they've accepted lies about God, His character, and you will variably find that most Christians instead of praying like David of old, “Search and see the wicked way in me; renew a new heart and right spirit in me.” You will find many of them say superstitiously, “When my heavenly Father looks at me, He doesn't see me, but Jesus covering me.” That's because they don't actually trust our heavenly Father but interventions made to hide and protect them from Him. You have to rightly divide the truth for yourself. I abide by the principle of the apostle Paul stated in Romans chap. 14 v. 5, “Every person must be fully persuaded in their own mind.” I can't do your thinking for you; you must examine the evidence for yourself and come to your own conclusion on the matter. I can challenge you to think and to weigh it out for yourself but you must apply yourself to do so. Have a good day, Caller, and may the Spirit of God invigorate you to rightly divide truth from error.

I don't know how rare this is because I don't have the statistics to determine that, but what is obvious to me is that in order to teach in the manner he does, he must have the backing of his school district and board of education. Therefore, they are to be highly commended for hiring teachers like him and allowing them to teach critical thinking in the classroom. I know he has their backing and support because if he didn't, he would have already been told to hit the road and don't come back.

I work at a large city community college and I assure you there are many. Most are like this despite what gets blasted online. People find videos and stories that support their ideas about what is happening at colleges and then post them endlessly. Like those street interviews where they string together a whole bunch of people who don’t know who George Washington was and then one person who does to make it seem accurate and in real time to prove how stupid students or the public are when in reality they edited out the 95% of people who do know. People knowing is not exciting. That doesn’t get eyeballs and comments. We all need to be careful what someone else presents as reality in real time truth when we ourselves are not there And I totally include myself in that statement. @@NoOne-bp2jw

I'm a science teacher, and never shy away from the 'tricky' questions or the topics that are 'off limits.' When kids directly ask me for my opinion on something (which happens all the time, kids are super curious and switched on), I ask them what theirs is first, and always play devil's advocate. It's great when you see the lightbulb light up and they say "oh, I've never thought about it like that." Unfortunately, the vast majority of my colleagues won't engage out if fear of parent complaints, professional consequences, and a lack of confidence. There's nothing wrong with asking kids tough questions and challenging their views. The best learning happens in these moments. We need to create a more tolerant, open minded and critical thinking generation. Especially when social media algorithms are hell bent on forcing us into set ideologies. It also teaches me too, because I really have to be on the ball with some of the imaginative questions I get asked 😅. They ask better questions than most journalists.

I love that he called out the lesson, in Harry Potter, that you have to face the unknown and your fears voluntarily. That lesson is from, I believe in the Order of the Phoenix, the moment that Harry realizes that either he has to kill Voldemort or Voldemort has to kill him, and critically, accepts it. He thinks to himself that his acceptance is the difference between being dragged into the Coliseum kicking and screaming and walking in with your head held high. He supposes that some would think that is a distinction without out a difference, but _he_ now understands that it is everything. It was at that moment, I began to consider those books literature, not merely entertainment.

The real gift in this video of him, is if you watch it all, he sets up the environment for the kid to learn for himself "I'm not gonna take any position", then gets the kid to explore the question he is asking, to examine it's validity for himself and encouarges him to decide if what is being claimed "the given" matches what he is reading out in his question. He leads the student to learn "thinking" for himself, he doesn't try to teach him how to think, he allows that to be discovered by prompting. It's a talent, to be able to setup and lead self discovery like that.
