Werner Harti: Excellent! Dude, you have a mind like a mad scientist genius. A simple rubber band and tape! No expensive or complicated clamps to build or buy. I knew there had to be a simple, inexpensive way to hold the corners of a frame in place. And you found it. I'm going to recommend for the next NASA Mars mission. Thanks for posting.

It’s an Anvil mitre box $5 with Husky mitre saw $10 from HD. The frame is 1 1/8 corner molding. Floating picture frame. Picture is 6x6 so I added 1/4 space between picture and frame and frame thickness is 1/4 for a total of 7” outside width.

I actually bought one of these last year at Home Depot because I am too scared to use my husbands power saws. Never used it but now I will! Wow it’s like magic! Bravo, Stanley should pay you!

Thanks for comment. I too am afraid of power saws, and it’s more stuff in the garage. The best way to make a bunch of pieces to exactly the same length Is to use a stop. But it’s always dangerous to trap your work between the blade and a stop. No problem with a mitre box. Good luck with your project.

Have a Huskey and Stanley 14” mitre saw. 13 TPI. Don’t know model number but Stanley is still available at Home Depot for around $15. You can get the saw and mitre box as a set.

Very nice. But with that Miter box it looks like your are limited to framing small prints and art work. ?

There is virtually no limit on size. The essence is equal lengths, which you can achieve by clamping down the box and a stop to the table. The stop could be like 3ft from the box. The bigger the frame, the less difference a slight difference in length makes, so you might get by with an accurate cut to length. Thanks for your comment.

That was cool but can you show me how to measure so that it fits my art? It seems so easy but it is not. I'm using the same corner molding you are but when i measure i can't figure out how to do it very accurately and how to line it up with the saw. I don't know how to explain. I do a lot of measuring and cutting flat things but this is dimensional and i need to be so precise.

For 1/2” border on floating frame, add 1” to frame size to get corner to corner size. Important thing is that opposite pieces are exactly the same length. That’s why a stop helps (for hand saw, don’t use stop on power saw).

Mitre Box, Saw, Glue, and Clamps from Home Depot. You’ll have to experiment with right size rubber bands or improvise; I got two bags of two different sizes at Staples.
