    Soooo glad I found you right now. I am a 66 year old female with less strength than I once had that is determined to play with wood now that I have time. Your explanations and tips seem easier for me to absorb. I don't mean to sound sexist but sometimes listening to the make videos is just more information than I can absorb as a beginner.😅❤

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. I use a mitre box from time to time. I have two small wooden mitre boxes and one plastic mitre box. The latter got spoiled very quickly, because the handsaw very soon made unwanted grooves in the mitre box. (the handsaw didn't come with the mitre box) The mitre box you showed in the video looks very handy and sturdier. I like the cam system and the clamping possibilities of it.

    Great video! I bought a hand saw and miter box to build canvas stretcher bars. It worked great! but since I live in an apartment i still worry my neighbors could hear me sawing. My friend told me that Japanese pull saws quieter and faster, so I bought one but I haven’t tried it yet. Have you ever heard of anyone using that kind of saw in a Stanley miter box? I’ll remember to put the scrap wood on the bottom and hopefully it goes well.

    What if I want to cut my board on the thin side and it's taller than the box? I'm just asking because I have one of these miter boxes and it's not really working for me 😢

  • @ArchaicAnglist

    @ArchaicAnglist

    5 ай бұрын

    I've seen a suggestion for that, from a KZreadr called either Detroit DIY (I do want to give credit where credit is due). You'll need two more clamps and a handsaw that doesn't have that spine down its back. 1. Use scrap lumber to build a platform that's the same width as your miter box, slightly longer than your miter box, and tall enough that the platform height plus the miter box's height equals the width of the board you want to cut. 2. Stack the miter box on the platform and clamp them together to your work surface. 3. Turn the board you want to cut on edge and clamp it to the OUTSIDE of the miter-box-and-platform stack, using C clamps or small bar clamps, and placing the board so your cut mark aligns with the OUTSIDE end of the slot you want to use. 4. Set your saw in both slots - as though the board were inside the miter box - and saw until your saw bottoms out in the miter box. 5. Unclamp the board and the miter box and platform; set the platform aside, and clamp the miter box back into place. With your board still on edge and cut side up, clamp it INSIDE the miter box so the cut aligns with the slots you used before. 6. Finish your cut. In case you wonder why you'll need a different saw: Remember Anika explaining that the spine on the backsaw keeps it from cutting too far into the miter box? That spine will also keep that saw from cutting all the way through a board that is wider than the saw is.

It's appreciated that people put out information it's great for everybody to use but usually the only reason that people look at videos like this is because they are frustrated and they're trying to get some answers from someone. And when you have to wait and wait and wait and wait it is just extremely frustrating

    Yea I noticed she’s like this. But she has great info. But I was frustrated earlier trying to watch how to use a miter saw. lol but I had been searching through other KZreadrs with bad videos. I finally forced myself to sit down and just watch her entire miter saw video, and I have to say she covered everything well and what I needed. But you can’t trust everyone to not waste your time in the end. I was frustrated with her video at first but then found I end up being 100% informed of what I need to move forward at least. It’s so hard to find fast good info though I wish people would do that too lol they need a sub header or something like “quick no bs no intro - just how to use the tool”

    What are you talking about? She's explaining what the thing is. It's all pertinent
