We took delivery of our brand new DA62 one year ago. I’ve flown it a bit more than 100 so far and all I can say is WOW! The diesels are so smooth and easy to operate, there’s no fear of shock cooling during descent, and they always start instantly regardless of temperature. It cruises near 190 Kts TAS on about 18 GPH. Near Baron speed, but at half the fuel burn! Love this plane!!!

Canada is one of the most important countries the U.S. trades with and have a positive net benefit for the U.S. America sends more goods to Canada than it does any other country and receives more goods from China than anyone else. 5 stars

@@Kambiztahan I'm a student pilot so I'll try not to speak over my own head, just going on what I thought I was learning so far. Looking closer at the instrument panel I don't see any backup steam gauges like in my C172 trainer. But I do see what looks like redundant glass instruments in the center for attitude, airspeed and altitude. www.diamondaircraft.com/fileadmin/_processed_/c/5/csm_Cockpit_DA62_Garmin_NXi_46751a2ac7.jpg

Not counter-rotating props? I would have thought that would be standard in new aircraft.

@@yoyomaho My PA34-200 (Seneca) has one engine that just turns in the opposite direction so no additional parts or gears. The engine and prop are just designed to counter-rotate so I don't think it would be that big a deal to have that on all new aircraft. You get rid of the critical-engine problem.

Drawbacks of counter-rotating propellers come from the fact that, in order to reverse sense of rotation of one propeller, either the engines must be adapted to turn in opposite directions or one propeller must have an additional reversing gearbox.

U are correct and I agree, but the drawback is as stated and the reason they are not all counter rotating. If the engines are different it’s an economic drawback since not all the parts are interchangeable between engines

@@yoyomaho Yes, but both engine and prop manufacturers are well-versed and experienced in these products. It is nothing new. I would think that the advantages far outweigh the small cost of selecting a stock engine and prop off-the-shelf. It strikes me as odd, for a new design, this would not be included. Older designs would require an STC and ton of paperwork and cost, but a clean sheet of paper design , I thought, would include a counter-rotating engine. Perhaps, they engineered-out the critical-engine problem. I don't know.
