I was hoping to hear more about the implications of QFT (Quantum Field Theory), which Cox briefly touched upon. I think it is the most important theory ever developed, based on the impact it has for our society, particularly now. The theory tells us what we and our natural world are made of, and what interacts with those things (mostly quarks and electrons). Guess what. There are no god, devil, soul, ghost or spirit forces, fields or particles (vibrating fields), that interact with the stuff we are made of, or we would know it beyond reasonable doubt. That makes them moot. And they thought Evolution was a challenge! Cox has touched briefly on ghosts and souls in the past, and I don't understand why interviewers haven't focused their attention on those statements he has made, explaining how QFT does away with them. The implications are profound. People are killing each other in the Middle East over gods that don't interact with us. And we know this beyond reasonable doubt, thanks to QFT, which by the way, does not have all the strangeness of Quantum Mechanics (QM), because it is derived in part from classical physics, QM, and relativity. It's pretty straight forward... things interact with each other, the results of which can be observed and measured, or they don't - like the trillions of neutrinos flowing through us now. If there is a god field out there, it has nothing to do with us. It has no way to push around our quarks and electrons forcing neurons to fire in the required patterns to give us thoughts or experiences, to heal tissue, to walk on water, to turn it into wine or to rise from the dead. You must push around quarks and electrons, and nothing outside our material, natural world is doing that.

You cannot apply practical science to philosophical questions. From a philosophical point of view the only thing you can ever be sure of is that you are experiencing this moment RIGHT now (i think therefore I am), you can’t even be truly sure you’ve experienced any other moments let alone something deeper like whether I actually have consciousness. From your perspective you simply woke up one day (or more accurately, you simply find yourself existing at every moment. Maybe you’ve always existed, maybe this one single moment is the only moment to have ever truly existed) and were bombarded suddenly with the knowledge of everything, with everyone all around convincing you that the idea that you EXIST right now is completely normal and ordinary when it quite honestly is not. You can of course be sure that the universe is consistent with itself, there will be no Neo Matrix style rule breaking, other people WILL be aware of events that you have memory of etc etc) but from a zoomed out, OUTSIDE the universe idea, you can’t know. You can choose to believe but that’s faith based at the end of the day, I personally opt for “It’s unknowable” which it objectively is. You can say that these ideas are ridiculous, and it is certainly your natural instinct to do so, but tell me.. what precedent do you have to decide that “everything is EXACTLY as it seems to be, in terms of existence” is a totally logical and likely answer, while “everything could be not quite as it seems” is totally ridiculous and impossible? What other existences have you experienced to decide which mode of existence is ordinary? What stats on existence are you drawing from? Now you can make the argument that all of this is a pointless discussion and I ABSOLUTELY would agree with you, that’s why instead of trying to “btfo” christians and somehow prove the unprovable (we’re not going to get into the fact that you’re implying an omnipotent, all powerful, all knowing magic sky daddy would somehow NOT be able to avoid basic human detection) i prefer to just, you know, not discuss pointless unknowable things like this. I get that you’re a militant ex-catholic (don’t try to pretend you’re not, you guys literally always are. The difference between a catholic and a militant atheist is just one bad experience with a nun) but you gotta chill out with that. Yes it might be retarded but christians are ALWAYS going to be able to hit you with that “well maybe the devil put that there and it’s all just a trick” no matter what scientific evidence you hit them with, it’s a pointless endeavor. Also we gotta stop pretending that religion is even top 10 reasons for war. war is human nature, there have always been and will always be wars. Religion is just one of many justifications for it. If everyone were atheist we’d go to war over one country having slightly different morals to another. If everyone had the same morals we’d go to war over money or power or something else. If everyone were the same race we’d start separating ourselves by shade of eye color etc etc and so on and so forth. And human history has proven that even if all religion stopped it’d be replaced with some other belief system that we refuse to call religion but it really just is like “spirituality” or “sigma grindset” which we’re all proving even now, and then we’d go to war over that bullshit. You gotta stop john lennoning all over the place cause it’s never going to be how we all wish it could be. I mean unless you run a fascist dictatorship and force it to be, best of luck

​@@dylanhoss3387 you completely ignored the basis of my post, which is that we know gods, devils, souls, ghosts and spirits do not interact with the material stuff we are made of. If you can demonstrate otherwise, then you have a Nobel Prize waiting for you. The burden of proof has shifted to the believer. A few decades ago it was still possible to think that maybe gods, devils, and whatnot interact with us, but following the last two or three decades of confirming QFT in particle accelerator/colliders, we know beyond reasonable doubt that these things do not interact with us. There's nothing philosophical about it. If Christians are going to say the devil interacts with us, then the burden of proof is on them to demonstrate how that happens. How does the devil reach into our brains and manipulate the quarks and electrons our neurons are made of, so as to cause them to fire in precise patterns that give us thoughts, words, experiences, feelings or whatever it is that the devil supposedly does. Believers need to put forth a mechanism, a hypothesis, even a wild-ass guess as to how that happens, or the idea can be laughed out of the room as an absurdity. No bad experiences with nuns. I love it when people who know nothing about someone else, presume to know all about them and proceed to tell them who they are, rather than actually responding to the issue on the table.
