Physicist 3D-Printed a Full-Scale Lamborghini in his Backyard
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is the worlds only 3D Printed Lamborghini, Sterling Backus said, he had a budget of $20,000 US dollars, he achieved this budget by sourcing parts from junk yards and doing all the work himself.
Sterling used a toy model that he enlarged in 3D-drafting software Solidworks to help 3D print many of the parts used in their project car. Using desktop 3D printers such as a QIDI X Pro, they were able to 3D-print many of the parts used in the car.
► Full Name = Sterling Bakus
► State / Country = Colorado / USA
► 3D Printed Pieces Total = 1000
► Total print time = 6000 hours
► Average time per piece = 6 hours average per piece
► Longest Print Time = was 52 hrs for the front scoops which cool the brakes.
► Lambo Not For Sale = But has had $100k offers
► Future Plans = Will continue to refine it for years to come, no other new cars planned.
► Lambo Parts = Lamborghini donated parts, but the car will not be badged Lamborghini
► 3D printer = CR-10S from Amazon
Thanks for watching.
NOTE: I waited 4 years to tell this story, I first contacted Sterling Backus in late 2019, and asked how far off from finishing the Lambo is he, and he said late 2020, well it was late 2022 when he got it done.
So as I like to tell complete stories, I said I would until he has the body painted and the interior all finished, and the car looks like a complete car, at that time I will tell his story.
Lots of other people have told his story in 2019 on an incomplete car, I wait 4 years until it was finished.

Surely he didn't leave the paint job like that, right? It's only a primer. Any updated pictures available? Oh, and kudos to you for waiting! 👍

@@terriwetz6077 my video shows the car in it's current final "primer" form as of mid October 2023, originally it's final form was the white painted car, and that was going to be where the video finished, showing you the Lambo in it's final white form, then I checked his channel, and he did further work on it. so like I said, it's a work in progress, the master is still working.

Impressive replica..only thing I would suggest is to tighten up those gap spaces from your assembled parts ( frontal body kit / trunk hood) 😊.

You are simply awesome; but I still have an issue - You could have bought a broken lambo for 50K and fixed it on your own saving all the hustle!
Meanwhile if it was Ferrari they would have sued him.... It's honestly pretty awesome that Lamborghini actually sent him parts for it. I hope to see this at LSFest someday.

@@wanderingbufoon Wrong, Ferruccio never got rejected; he actually owned several and tried advising Enzo on how to improve his cars' clutches after they kept breaking down and Enzo snubbed Ferruccio off as just "a tractor maker".

Ferrari is losing these causes lately, provided the cars are not for sale
The son doesn't know how much of a cool dad he has.
This is basically the next generation of building a kit car, can have anything you want. Gotta love 3D printers.
What people dont understand is how that will effect the son. His boy will be the cool kid in school that has an awesome dad. Those memories last a lifetime and that father and son bond will never be broken. Amazing feat Backus!.

This is absolutley astonishing. I renovate homes and often do some of the work myself where I'm hit with curve-balls all the time. This is next level. Absolutley incredible.
he should winner for #1 Father award, very nicely done...
My hat goes off to everyone involved in this project. Outstanding, keep videos coming, god bless
Nice to see how this project progressed! Thanks for sharing.
Love it that lambo gave him the blessing and some parts.
Anyone who would ask "why not just buy one" is absolutely 100% missing the point!!!
Awesome and great job, the look on his son’s face was priceless! 👍🏻👍🏻
I was proud of replacing fenders, a bumper and doing a wrap on my mustang. Definitely need to pick my game up lol that car is some serious dedication
I love to see what people are able to build in their garages.. Fing Awesome Build.
The last pictures of car in the video look awesome! Very nice Craftsmanship! Great dad and i image he loves the car just as much as his son❤
Wow! It came out unexpectedly unbelievable! Great job 🎉
brilliant work, very inspiring

Great job.

Amazing! I'm blown away!
1 amazing job well done
DUDE!!! AWSOME JOB!!
This is awesome.
This is awesome. I bet if this guy makes a few more they'd be dialed in.
wow.. great job
Awesome job! Only bit of advice I can give is, it sounds like a corvette. You can buy a specific electronic muffler, or something that has to do with your muffler, that will make the car sound like a lambo. I forgot what its actually called, but you can just Google that and it will come up. Jot that expensive.
Respect. Personally I would indeed save up, but from the creators/engineers perspective it’s very cool
Looks awesome
"You would not download a car, would you?" Just aged like milk.
look nice ,u did a good job ,keep up with good job.if the gear was automat that will be more nicer.hope we will see u with other project,
That's so awesome‼😎
Looks crazy cool
This.. is artistic. Kudos.
That is genius! Very cool!👌
It even doesn't start instantly, just like a real Lambo!
Father of the year. They never showed to joy of the little boy so it was more of a big toy for Pops. I'd buy one from him!
How did he produce files for printing? Was there 3D scanning involved?
svaka čast!
remarkable
Very Cool and one heck of a build. I wonder how well the 3D print material is going to do in the hot sun.

Well I guess you missed the part where it started melting 😂. He covered the panels with carbon fiber to stiffen it up and prevent the warping but he really should have used nylon or abs.
Hella smart dude, and best dad ever. Kid has no idea how great of a dad he has.
My uncle built Cars and this guy he did a super job at this ! Way to goooooo❤❤❤ from Poland 🇵🇱
That's nice Lamborghini helped him with parts
should go fo the mustang engine ,the 5,2 with dual overhead and with ecual lenght header you could replikate the lambo sound., or a bmw v10 engine.
this is an amazing feet, that's why lambo helped - not just anyone can do this. amazing story.
Bet his son can't wait to get a turn at the wheel. He should be getting close to turning 16, legal age to drive in the US.
Very beautiful car ❤
Such a great father.
WOW Awesome Build . SKK .

Amazing Dad!
That's craaaazy
It really is about the journey!
this is next level lego
A massive undertaking and an awesome job.. well done.. However, not so much of a 3d printed Lambo, but more of a custom build with a body using 3d printed panels and finished with carbon fibre. Unrealistic title aside, still an awesome job!!
the industry: you wouldn't download a car meanwhile: but I guess most of the budget went into getting the chassis road certified.
only problem is safety.
well done
Love it
My main criticism is that he used PLA or PETG and that's why the panels started meeting. A basic search would habr eliminated those materials as suitable for this project.
Hell yeah
Thats bad ass man so cool your son loves you
Wow things like this is the reason I want to be a mechanical engineer.
I wonder if a full wrap would make it look at little more put together. plus that lambo needs to be green, orange, gloss black or bmw blue
Wow that's a lot of work. I guess the plastics that work in a 3D printer are also susceptible to the heat of sunlight. I wonder if using a white plastic would have been sufficient to avoid the sun damage.
Is the engine a big block Chevy? Or LS
Carbon fiber full body kit for a lambo would be about $15k. If your were going to print one it would probably be best to use a CFPC filament to begin with. Of course when he started there wasn't any CFPC filament.
you wouldn't download a car, would you?

my dream project one day..
How is this accident / crash proof? No VIN # how will you register ? This also can’t be road worthy !
Son: dad can I have a lamborghini Dad: hold my 3d printer.. Amazing job man!
So, the most important function of a supercar is the ¨visuals¨, i meant, the visual part, as a ¨social help¨ with woman, and fun general purposes. Really a replica like this working so good in those functions for a minimal fraction of the costs of a real one.
Wow very cool👍
Guy's a genius.
Look very real
I wish I could be this kind of dad!!
@DonutMedia needs to see this.
the 4 tires alone are over the budget
1:05 OMG!!!
In Indonesia, there are lots of Lambos made by home workshops on the street, even buying and selling services for making Lambo bodies, Hammers, etc...
When you just want to do it but as difficult as possible
I really hope 3D printer manufactures gifted him some 3D printers to aid in his genius
This is the future 😮
❤ I Can Relate in so many ways! But the Biggest Part to this Video for me is... His Son Asked him could he do it! When you Love your Children you will Try to do anything!
For me it’s better then the real thing because he made it himself
To be able to do this with your son is unreal and very inspirational. Your boy has probably learned so many life lessons he will carry through his entire life from this . Great job pops from one dad to another 🫡
To my fellow 3d artists that stumbled on this. Lamborghini donated headlights steering wheel and dashboard. Ooh ok he said it later on lol
