Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) Fellowships

Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) programs are generally between 2 and 3 years, and once you graduate from an accredited program, you become eligible to sit for your board certification exam, then if you pass, you can get your necessary licensing and start working as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP). However, even though they are eligible to work right away, some PAs and NPs elect to complete a fellowship after they graduate, or sometimes even mid-career as a career change. These PA and NP fellowships are generally 12 months in duration, and are available in fields such as emergency medicine, surgery, trauma, dermatology, and urgent care. In this video, Boris Temkin, PA-C and Elijah C., PA-S1 discuss the pros and cons of completing a fellowship as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP)!

Question: you talked about some of the money that you can make. But I don’t know what your cost of living is there. Can you tell us the starting hourly wage and average wage for a RN? And then also the starting hourly wage and hourly wage for a PA? Thanks for the videos.

So wages are very much dependent on where the job is, the specialty, your level of experience, etc. however last year average yearly income for PAs in the US was 115k. I don’t know many who make less than that, I do know many who make more than that, sometimes much more. RNs start as low as 30-40/hour to well over 100k depending on experience and seniority

Of course! There are several Emergency Medicine PA and NP fellowships in the US. Have you done a Google search for the area you’re in? I’d just google “PA and NP emergency medicine fellowship” and your city.
