    Great video! As a semi-native Arizonan, I've lived in both Tucson and the Phoenix metro area. One thing I miss about Tucson is the summer Monsoon tends to favor Tucson in terms of more frequent storms and more rainfall than Phoenix. The urban heat island effect of Phoenix hampers storm development, and anecdotally, I'd say Phoenix gets about 1/3 to 1/2 the monsoon action of Tucson.

    Yep it gets hot in Arizona that’s for sure… I usually like to go swimming in the height of the summer anytime in the morning until about 10 or 11 AM, and anytime in the afternoon maybe starting around three or 4 PM. In the middle of the day when the sun is overhead, it’s just too hot and it isn’t safe for the skin anyway.

    I lived in Tucson while stationed at Davis-Monthan for three years and I much prefer Tucson. Phoenix is too big, too chaotic and always a good 5 to 10 degrees hotter than Tucson. Tucson feels like a big town rather than a big city but still has cool neighborhoods, great restaurants and bars etc. The good thing is if you really want the big city amenities like sports and nightlife, you can just drive up to Phoenix.

    Since we were (are) considering moving, we wanted to visit in every season. A few years ago, we visited in August, hit the monsoon rains, LOVED it and AZ was as green as NC! It surprised us and we really enjoyed it. We never would have guessed that summer weather would be so surprising. I especially loved the big lightning storms - those were spectacular! We enjoyed seeing those big storms. We love to visit Phoenix and Tucson, but we've made friends in Tucson, so that adds to the appeal. It's definitely more my vibe.

    Pheonix is horrible, it's a giant suburb with massive car dependancy while Tucson act's more like a real city and at least they have better mass transit. Can you do Flagstaff? Most of these Tucson/Phoenix comparison things I see are not very accurate, but I'd say yours is pretty spot on. I used to really loathe Phoenix, but I've come to not hate it quite so much over the years (ha!). And yes, I'm a proud (native) Tucsonan! :)

    Thanks so much! Glad to hear it from someone else who knows Tucson and Phoenix so well! There are pros and cons to each city and it just depends on what a person prefers… I know there’s a huge rivalry between the two cities, but honestly I love them both a lot. I prefer Tucson because it’s less busy and (I know it’s a silly thing to say), but it’s slightly cooler than Phoenix weather-wise, but I love all that Phoenix has to offer as far as all the activities and things to do and see, and I truly believe that Phoenix takes better care of their buildings and roads so Phoenix looks nicer in most places than Tucson does overall. (I’m a proud native Tucsonan as well, but we are not perfect 😉🤣). Thanks again for the view and comment!!! 😎🌵☀️

    Kimberly, I love your videos. I'm thinking about moving to Tucson this winter from Minnesota. I actually looked up the crime rates. Tucson's violent crime is HALF that of Minneapolis, Cleveland, or Indianapolis. In fact, it's roughly equal to Des Moines, Iowa, a city that I hardly think of as "dangerous," and exactly the violent crime rate of Boston, a city people love to rave about. Property crime does appear to be worse (statistically). But often not by a whole lot. Property crime more than twice the U.S. average, but just barely worse than Cleveland, and not a whole lot worse than Seattle or Portland (cities that people are lined up like turds on a log to move to.) It's all in the perception. I flew out to Arizona three times in the last year and had a blast every time. Checked out Tucson on the second trip, just out of curiosity. Expected to stay for a day. Stayed in that area for a week. Ton of stuff to do, I wasn't bored for a second. (Even during Covid, there was cool stuff to do!) Meanwhile, and I'm sorry to say it, the Twin Cities have become a drag. You live in a good town. Keep preaching. Thanks for the positivity.

    I lived in the Phoenix area from 1976-205. In a nut shell, my comparison would be that both have almost everything available to residents and tourists that the other has. From plenty of sunshine (I hate snow), first-rate university, great restaurants, resorts, golf courses, Southwest native culture, etc. Phoenix has become a huge metropolis which has advantages and disadvantages. I haven’t been to to Tucson in a few years, but the biggest difference I found is the unfortunate lack of freeways to get around the city. Route 10 runs along the west and south sections, convenient to UofA, but inconvenient for much of anything north and east-where most of the residential areas are. If I were to move back to AZ, it would likely be to Tucson.

  • @TucsonArizona

    You missed schools. Phoenix has more school choices (charter/private). Phoenix has more primary & secondary choices that are easier to access because of the before mentioned freeways. If a family lived in Mariana or Vail and wanted to attend a specialized non public school the travel time could be close to an hour of surface street driving across town. In Phoenix it would be half the time at most.

  • @TucsonArizona

    @TucsonArizona

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the view and comment! If I’m being totally honest I didn’t mention schools because I’m not really familiar with Phoenix schools, so I appreciate the information. In the 40 years I’ve lived in Tucson, we have definitely seen more charter and private schools open up than when I was a kid here, but it doesn’t surprise me that Phoenix has more options. Thanks again for the comment and have a great day!

    We love your videos! We're in Tucson. Tucson great, only hot June-Aug, rest of the year is good. Phoenix is unlivable. In Tucson we can grow tropical fruit trees year round; that 8-10 degrees increased hotness in Phoenix would be harder if not impossible for us. Growing mango, barbados cherry, berry trees, figs, limes, lemons, grapefruit, oranges, papaya, pomegranite, grapes, peaches, nectarines. All dwarf varieties but we only have 1050 sq ft property so a small yard. But if it were just 5-10 degrees hotter this little mini orchard would be way too hard to keep hydrated and cool. Tucson is livable. Phoenix IMO is unlivable from May to October.

    Your video is pretty spot on comparing Phoenix to Tucson. I grew up in Tucson. Moved here in 1964 when I was ten. Dad was stationed at DMAFB. The population was just over 200,000 people. We had the same amount of freeways then---that we do today. This city hates freeways. I hate being stuck in traffic in the summer because of Tucson's short-sightedness and lack of good infrastructure. I truly believe some BIG BUSINESS chooses not to relocate in Tucson because of the bad roads? Sad. I have family and friends in Tucson. Went to Rincon High and the U of Az, but today I live in Phoenix where I was successful in a radio broadcasting career for years. I live in Gilbert. Also sad in my opinion is that people don't seem to take pride in the older neighborhoods in Tucson with weeds, trash and old cars laying around. Dirtier city than Phoenix. What I love about the valley is you can GET AROUND pretty easy. More opportunity, more jobs, more water with the Salt River Lakes supplying drinking water and irrigation. The pioneers had FORESIGHT to plan for future growth...But, I can find things to love in both cities. Just prefer to live in Phoenix (Gilbert).

    I like living in Tucson better, smaller town feel but big enough to have most of the benefits of being in a large city. Also it's cooler, as you mentioned, and there's more outdoor stuff to do. That said I'm looking for jobs in Phoenix because Tucson never bothered to invest in infrastructure or industry. Debating keeping the house in Tucson and renting a room in Phoenix, we'll see.

    Just curious if you also help people find rentals in Tucson? We may be moving there in the next 4-6 months for my job and want to rent for a year or so after selling our house in San Diego. I haven’t rented a house in many years and just as weary of scams plus we are hoping to find a house with some specific features. Thanks!

    Yes! Tucson has several malls here, including Tucson Mall! We also have Foothills Mall, Park Place Mall, and El Con Mall which are all indoors, and we also have La Encantada, which is a beautiful and relatively upscale outdoor mall in the Foothills. It’s really pretty to just walk around and window shop, but there are also some delicious restaurants there. Thanks for the view and comment!

    Phoenix roads, infrastructure is better because Phoenix, Maricopa county, steals way out of proportion what is collected in taxes and trickle down by State legislature is small or non existent like sand in an hour glass. That is what happens when you make the largest city the capital. Taxation without representation, for all the other counties.
