Yep! But not for this group of fruit growers who are adding a little moisture and cool temps. If a million people would do it, it wouldn't be.

There is such a large group of food forest growers in Phoenix, and so many groups to join. Any of the people I have interviewed on this playlist would extend some help or advice. Thanks for watching, and sorry for late response. Had a bad injury Christmas eve and still recovering. Thanks!

Down loading it now. I'll come back after I get to watch it. Okay, I watched it and it is unbelievable that he can grow all that much in the climate he is in. But, it shows that if given the conditions the plants need, they will thrive. Great video Kaye! OAG

Exactly. And there is such a movement in Phoenix, which you wouldn't think there would be. He's a big leader in that movement, as well as Greg Peterson. Did you watch my video with him? Also, I just got a glimpse (not sure where I saw it now) of some people planting trees in the desert and watering with treated sewage water, not good enough to put on vegetable crops but fine to grow trees.

How much does the food forest lower the temperature? Is it 10, 20, 30 degrees lower? I've been watching a lot of reforestation projects to re-green deserts, and if this food garden were done on a massive scale, it could drastically reduce temperatures, bring back a more varied wildlife and help minimize flash floods when it rains because the vegetation would have created a healthy soil to absorb a lot of it.

I noticed u planted a lot of trees right next to your house. R u sure they won't hit any lines? Can I do that?

Wherever u have a shady compost or rotting leaf smell around... Put a jar of compost water with Mosquito Bits in it... Bacterial control, same as Mosquito Dunks, but cheaper by the jug full. They lay eggs that all die.

I might have a dumb question, but don't the smaller fruit trees need more sunlight? Most of the smaller trees seem to be under the canopy of the larger trees.

It's not dumb at all and I should have asked him that question on camera. If you are on Facebook, go to facebook.com/ediblefoodscaping/ and pose the question to Jay. Since there is SO much sun there, I'm assuming they would get burned alive if they didn't have the canopy but for where I am, my front yard doesn't get enough sun. Thanks for watching!!

I think some of the trees are understory trees that prefer dappled sunlight when found in nature - many subtropical fruit trees are like that.

Loyce, if you mean me, I'm in Los Angeles in zone 11a, and Jay is in Phoenix. Not sure what that zone is, except HOT! I almost died making that handful of first Phoenix videos. Thanks for watching and please tune in to my livestream on Sunday at 10AM PST and join the conversation!

Everything is sharing out in nature? I thought plant's roots were always competing and choking each other?

guavas grow very tall. you would need a natural source of water in case of a social breakdown, prepper scenario

I wonder what his thoughts are on that. Phoenix is exploding with growth and bottle water companies are planning to suck it dry. I don't know what will happen...

That is the "ultimate" challenge that these guys need to take serious. As of now they show their great talents but when push comes to shove we will need the easy flow of water. Maybe the city will allow a deep well. It was a very constructive documentary of what is being done thus far among the regular people, Thanks

There is currently no plan for what to do after lake mead dries up (which it will eventually)

Do you worry about snakes in AZ? I’m sure you do but how does that not impact your gardening. Lol I know it would for me 🤦🏽‍♀️😝😭😭

How much water is used when it's 120 degrees in the summer? What happens when lake mead runs out of water? When I see AZ food forests I just think "holy cow; not sustainable"...

That was my feeling when I was there, but, the prevailing thinking seems to be every food forest cools down the temperature.
