Philosophy: The Love of Wisdom | A Guide to Life

Philosophy is a mode of life, an act of living, and a way of being. Modern philosophy has forgotten this tradition, and philosophical discourse has all but overtaken philosophy as a way of life. Philosophy is not just an intellectual discipline, which can get abstract and divorced from the real world, but is most importantly a way of life that teaches us how to best live our lives.
Philosophy is a mode of existing in the world, which has to be practiced at each instant, and the goal of which is to transform the whole of the individual’s life. Real wisdom does not merely cause us to know: it makes us “be” in a different way.
Ancient philosophy proposed to mankind an art of living. By contrast modern philosophy appears above all as the construction of a technical jargon reserved for specialists.

The tongue doesn't emit what we call noise, nonsense, no tongue is actually speaking. The vocal chords twang and cause a ripple effect in the Aether much like a violin twangs it's chords but again the violin isn't omitting anything any noise. No one is actually speaking, but the ripples in the Aether what we call sound waves are picked up by a biological instrument called the ear, and the ripples bounce of the ear drum so to say. We use language to interpret vibration. Word's are vibrations....

@@Cheximus In Carl Jungs work, there is the ego-complex and the opposing force the shadow(ego-dystonic complex). The ego complex would be best summed up as your ideal self and the shadow the worst version of you. Since both of those things exist in almost every individual they fight for 'being you' so to speak resulting in the usual up and downs of life and ultimately in the hedonistic treadmill trap. You will find yourself in the middle of both, every time you near your ideal self the shadow will hinder you and throw you back.(just look at your life there you can clearly see it) Thus resulting what other traditions call karma or karmic game. (They kinda just explain it bad it isn't do good get good. Rather do egoistic stuff and the opposing shadow will be pissed about that) Now once you realize that every egoic action has its consequences you can choose to get rid of the harsh ideals of the ego or almost free yourself from it entirely which is then called enlightenment in spiritual traditions. (escaping the karmic game) If something needs further explanation just let me know. Carl Jungs work and other depth psychology as well as Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and e.g. the Tibetan book of the dying + Timothy learys interpretation of it are great sources to expand on this but you gotta puzzle it together your self and most importantly try to find this karmic sequence in your life :)

I certainly indulge in hedonistic activities to the detriment of my future (and current, to an extent) future self. Thanks again.

Philosophy is a very wide area, a very wide subject, but the best definition after 6 years of studying philosophy, for me, is that philosophy is a study of ideas. Philosophy is not a science, and there is very good reason for that, any science has to have in its foundations a few axioms, propositions that are taken as such, without the need for proof, or evidence... Philosophy has no such axioms, which is explained in the "Introduction in philosophy" by Eugen Fink... Of course, some may claim that logic is science, logic is part of philosophy, or at least that is how I studied that field, but logic (and perhaps math) is just an "organon", a tool that science is using.

A good dialectical perspective. Philosophy can be viewed as part of the humanities. On the other hand Philosophy is a discipline in the interdisciplinary cognitive science. Along the spectrum with anthropology and psychology because social signalling primates require religio. As for metaphysics the learned ignorant might be agnostic.

The best definition of philosophy is in the name itself and doesn't need to be changed, it literally means "love of wisdom." A "study of ideas" is too clinical and detached, whereas "love of wisdom" better sets out the purpose of philosophy and the relationship between philosopher and philosophy.

Philosophy = the study and practice of an integral Way of being, knowing and doing. The most significant choice we can make in this Life is between unconscious compulsive reaction and conscious creative response.

Your videos have played a great part in my own Hero's Journey. Thank you, my friend, for bringing wisdom presented in such a soothing, intellectual, and well-structured manner to this world. I am still early in my journey of self-realization and true philosophical understanding but I remain strong. Your videos make adjusting to the light of the sun easier. I appreciate you and I hope you are happy.

i started this video with a cup of hot coffee beside me, and i finished this video with a half cup of cold coffee beside me. i was so immersed in this that i forgot taking a sip of my coffee from time to time. every time a new philosophy is introduced, i immediately stop the video to search it up first before continuing. i loved it! i learned so much, thought so much, but felt so much peace at the same time. this channel easily came off as one of my favorite channels here on youtube.

I've got to say, eternalized is one of the best philosophy channels on KZread. I'm an autodidact... This helps me utilize what I've learned. It's easy to know the answers... It's harder to practice them. Thank you!!!

Haile Selassie the final emperor of Ethiopia (1930-1974) of the Solomonic dynasty is a prime example of one who was able to balance Reason (man, principles) with Thumos (righteous courage, an army) to conquer the Appetite (monster, Romans) He was called the Lion of Judah and is depicted riding a white horse and slaying a dragon. Ancient philosophy is the Ethiopian Orthodox Church; modern philosophy is the Catholic Church. I would encourage anyone and everyone to read some of his quotes
