Hermeticism: The Ancient Wisdom of Hermes Trismegistus

The legendary figure of Hermes Trismegistus (Hermes Thrice Great) is the inspiration for the spiritual teachings known as Hermeticism. He is a syncretism (joining) of the Greek deity Hermes, the winged messenger of the Gods, and his Egyptian counterpart, the Ibis-headed moon god Thoth.
The Way of Hermes involved altered states of consciousness in which practitioners went through a training regime that involved luminous visions, spiritual rebirth, cosmic consciousness, and union with the divine beauty of universal goodness and truth to attain the salvational knowledge known as gnosis.

Have you come across the lecture from Terence McKenna in which he discuss the Corpus Hermeticum and it being 'fraudulent' / manufactured ? What's your take on this as its the only time I have come across this point of view. Thanks!

  • @haniamritdas4725

    @haniamritdas4725

    Жыл бұрын

@@thatotheruniverse Yes I recall that one for the most part. My take on it is that he was speaking about the historical context of Roman Catholic philosophy, scholasticism. It's really a bit weird and fascinating. On the one hand, this Roman faith is not based on reason but a cultural miasma. However the classical domain of learning (mathēmatikē epistēmē) fell under their authority, if only because they put it under there along with everything else they could plunder from the world stage. And if they couldn't plunder it, they burned it up. So that's a big mess. But you have this group of quasi religious and semi philosophical uh thinkers who created a history of the world's philosophy out the ash heap of their ancient manuscript bonfires and the stuff they squirreled away behind the tapestries from Persia. And they pronounced with unassailable certainty (because that's how it's done) the lineage of Christian Truth: Hermes taught Moses! The history books, the ones we haven't yet burned, tell us that "During the Renaissance, it was accepted that Hermes Trismegistus was a contemporary of Moses. However, after Isaac Casaubon's demonstration in 1614 that the Hermetic writings must postdate the advent of Christianity, the whole of Renaissance Hermeticism collapsed." So their historical timeline was a boondoggle. McKenna thought it was strange that the value of the Hermetic texts should depend on a false history to begin with, and that simply having a historically accurate record of their origin would be a good thing. But he was after all a terrible Catholic. And Catholics who stridently insist on their absolute authority are threatened by their own mistakes in arithmetic, not to mention history. How can we be sure about cosmology if we can't recall the past millennium? We cannot of course. But don't mention this to the priest, and certainly not the bishop. For your own good. So the fraud was not about the contents of the Corpus Hermeticism but the Church's acute embarrassment and revealed ignorance regarding its origins and the (in hindsight obvious) observations made by these early linguistic comparisons, of philolology. It's hard to be responsible for the salvific education of the world when you cannot reason very well. Those clever kids show you up every time. That's why the Romans invented traumatic religious mind control in the first place! And after failing so hard at philosophical reasoning they only have fear and insanity left to control people with. But that's another story I guess.

I met him a few years ago in my DMT trip. Told me he is the master of masters and then proceeded to test me. I was given the chance to create this reality for myself from the very same seat of creation god sat on. afterwards I found myself before what I can only describe as God. No bearded white man in the sky... But a universal consciousness connected to all. The only way I can describe it is complete. We're divided.. It's whole... This video does a pretty good job of summing up so many of the words I'm missing to do so... I started off my journey an atheist, and found my answers & peace the day I met thoth. So if your here and listening to this ancient truth, you're probably supposed to be here listening... This stuff has a way of finding who it's meant for... This is what the Christians tried to wipe out in the crusades, yet somehow a small amount survived, hidden for 2000 years until technology advanced far enough for this word to spread again.. Dont follow blindly, know god for yourself

I was in meditation last year and was surrounded by ascended masters for a short while. They encouraged me, and then I told them I was not worthy and hung my head low. They reassured me that I was worthy. It was not spoken maybe it was more a feeling. The faces were brilliant, they were at ease, and they were welcoming me. Last night I had a dream of a bald eagle landing in a tree above me. One year ago, when I had several visions, my entire internal world shifted. It took one whole year for my brain to process it. Organized religion is programmed to reject this. Thus I have searched mostly in silence.

Highlights 21:30 Instead of us trying to reach the gods, it is they who come down to heal our soul 39:31 We suffer not because of our body, but because of the passions in our body 45:22 The pupil expresses himself by means of silent hymns that are heard and understood only by an interior faculty of perception 47:53 That is the philosophy of the Greeks: a noise of words. We do not use such language but sounds full of power 50:19 We think we are alive; the reality is that we are dead, and when we die, we become alive 50:52 Not one of the heavenly gods will leave the boundaries of heaven and come to earth, but man ascends to heaven and measures it... he ascends while not leaving earth... man on earth is a mortal god, and the heavenly god is an immortal man 51:42 Allow yourself to grow larger until you are equal to him who is immeasurable, out leap all that is corporeal, transcend all time and become the Aion, then you will understand God

The Ancient Gnostic perspective was that our personal awakening, correction, and restoration is also Hers (Earth/The Universe). It was viewed as a symbiotic relationship. That is what is meant by "escape." It is the rescue of the Aeon Sophia, Goddess of the Earth and Mother of the Universe. As Miguel Conner brilliantly stated: "The awakening of any individual is a cosmic rebellion."

For it is possible my son, that a man's soul can be made like to Gods. Even though it's trapped within the body, it still often contemplates the beauty of the good." Plato himself says that after stumbling out of the cave and gazing into the sun, receiving the initiation into the realisation of the Ideas, one has to stumble back into the cave to convey the insight. The irony being that both times one is seen as a stumbling idiot by the ones staying in the cave; first one is blinded by the brightness of the fire and then the sun light, when one returns one's eye sight is not adjusted to the darkness and stumbles around once more. Just to say Plato doesn't teach a renunciation of the reality of earth.

Thank you so much Eternalised for this video. I am a spiritual seeker from India, I follow Advait Vedanta ( Non - Dual Vedanta ) and I am shocked to see how much the teachings of Great Hermes have so much in common with the Ancient Vedic spiritual knowledge( The Upanishads ). To know the non - dual reality, your true nature , desires- the root cause etc. So similar..... In Hindu Vedic traditions/core teachings to know oneself is the only way you get to know the true reality and it is the most important purpose of human life. So good to see the ancient traditions around the world focusing on knowing our true nature rather than having blind false beliefs. Thank you!

I had no idea what I had tapped into or how I even did it, but instead of the typical dmt trip described by Terrance McKenna (dmt elves etc) and so many other phantastical things described by other psychonauts, I met thoth in plain sand stone temple, he stood in the corner of the room while I was on a pedestal shaped much like a cross between the infinite symbol and a yin yang, with a stange pool of glowing I guess liquid plasma kinda look, and he guided me through the ceremony described towards the end of this video. Where he couldn't help and it came down to me alone, crazy story short a test of my integrity, wether or not I'm malicious or benevolent, but I passed the test & ascended into God exactly as this describes... Every day for the past 3 years since then I've replayed every second of it in my head over and over, trying to make sense of it... Nobody including the sage himself Terrence McKenna describes anything like what I went through, I couldn't tell if I experienced something significant or just unique, or if I'm just crazy, but word for word this describes it... When it was over My soul came back down from in the sky at pace faster than you could fall at terminal velocity, slammed into My body and found the answers to what I was seeking echoing in My mind. I wanted to know why My life had been so above averagely fucked up compared to everyone around me, and the answer was that it was all meant to make me into the person I am now, My life played out in peculiar way as if it practically led me right to this & completely changed everything for me. I was an unhappy atheist before. I couldn't believe in anything beyond my comprehension.. Now after 3 years of questioning my sanity I find out I somehow led to and allowed to tap into ritual from ancient times, was shown my inner self and given a reason to be confident, then given time to accept it and come to terms with it, and now given proof that i did actually go through something significant. it may not prove anything to anyone else... But I'll never see this holy experience we call life the way I did before again. I wasnt sure if I should accept it as the truth or just write myself off as crazy... And I suppose it sounds equally crazy that I did what's described here and thoth himself was there with me, before I even knew about any of these teachings... But I feel like I know for sure this is the true path to God, this is what the Vatican tried so hard to remove from the world, the crusades, all meant to wipe this knowledge away and purge the Heretics, then keep it under wraps for 2000 years and use its absence to enslave the world... Yet by some miracle, a last ditch effort made by consciousness, just enough was hidden from the crusades to survive into modern times and be rediscovered at a time in history where it's most needed... the war on consciousness is basically just a bunch of rich pricks trying to make sure if they cant be with God, nobody will. We all know this system has led the world astray, they're choking the life out of this world right before our eyes and fooling everyone into their folly, and its all predicted, the sheep shall sacrifice each other outside the kingdom of heaven trying get through the doors but they shall be denied

Great story. I recently did 5-Me0 DMT and had a crazy experience also. Although not this experience, but a total ego death and was allowed to see what god was. And as an atheist turned Christian because the Christian God saved me from 25 years of intense IV use addiction. Or so I though that was the god that saved me. I was very wrong about my image of god that was imposed upon me through false belief systems. Religion seeks to separate completely. My god is the only true god, no MY god is, no MY god is. Let’s kill everyone who don’t believe in MY god, in the name of MY god. What a disgrace and tragedy organized religion is. The god I met wasn’t an entity or a being or even a thing. It was a sound that turned into a vibrational frequency and turned into energy that became conscious and in turn created all things. Yet there are no things, only god, which is also no thing. So the point was that there is only one thing, a oneness, that I am god, you are god, the sky, the water, the dog, the cat, the rocks, the trees, the fly, the mosquito are all god. Even the devil must be if there is only one thing. No thing exists outside of our own consciousness. Matter or things are a construct of our consciousness. There is a collected consciousness also. Which by the way sucks as far as I’m concerned. We are only energy and that energy is consciousness. And since energy cannot be destroyed, only displaced somewhere else, we cannot die. Death is only the ego. Which is why the ego holds on so tight to these false belief systems. Which we picked up in early childhood from mainly our parents, who also have no idea what the truth is. They simply picked up their own false set of belief systems from their parents and peers and school and cultural norms and society as a whole. It’s all a lie. My entire belief system was shattered and I almost had an existential crisis on my hands like you. To realize that I knew nothing and what I did know was all a lie that my fucking ego made up. Although without our ego we could not navigate this existence. It is how we are individuals. Yet truthfully we are not. And I also like you I did dmt not for fun, but to try to make sense of my fucked up life full of trauma and pain and addiction. I have been clean from drugs for three years now and in order to do that it took everything I had. I had to learn about god, although I was wrong at the time. I studied psychology and spirituality and anything I could get my hands on. I spent a year of my life in total in residential faith based treatment t centres. And since I was free of my addictions and changed dramatically I thought I was healed. Only my ego lying to me again. So once I realized my mind still had a dark side that didn’t want to let go I did dmt in a last effort to heal. I researched it extensively first and understood it’s ability to heal. I did it five times in a week and each time I learned something deep and meaningful about myself. It told me to love myself. It told me to let go and flow. It told me to love the man who caused my trauma who is now dead, my father. And wen I realized that he was god as was I since there is only a oneness it was easy to do that. And realizing he was a very traumatized person as well. Hurt people hurt people man. I dropped two tabs of acid last week and while peeking and having an out of body experience I thought it would be a good idea to have a puff of dmt. And my god was that a very bad idea lol. It wasn’t funny but I can laugh about it now. It wasn’t a bad trip, just really intense. And I had a lot of difficulty wrapping my brain around all that I just learned. It was hard to cope. So I got on you tube and realized this isn’t some special knowledge that the toad gave me, many know it. Albert Einstein, Tesla, the ancient Egyptians and many other ancient civilizations. All speak of a oneness and that all things are energy. And even this video. It all validated that what the dmt told me was correct. Yet, for whatever reason this information hasn’t had a lasting changing affect on me. I still feel alone and broken. I still don’t care. I tried lsd last night and it did nothing. I couldn’t even trip. I’ve never really seen that before. And I’m no beginner with this stuff. It really caused me to still question my existence. I’m glad that you found what you were looking for. Maybe I’ll keep searching but I don’t believe that the answer can be found in psychedelics. Well the answer can be but what you do with that knowledge still depends on you. And I’m not in a place to even care still. Which is sad I know. I think all dmt trips, although very similar in message are unique to the “individual,” and I use that word lightly. One thing I can agree on is the evil super elite scum withholding this knowledge and truth from society as a whole is the truth. The blindness of almost everyone is overwhelming to say the least. Almost unbelievable how blind the masses are. Sheep is putting it mildly. Fools more like it. Long story here I know but just wanted to comment. I enjoyed hearing your story. Gives me a little hope I guess

Thank you for your high quality effort on this video. As a life long Buddhist, and someone who has long studied many branches of mysticism and Western occultism, I thought you did an amazing job doing indepth coverage of this topic, both of the academic historical context, and of the basic, central and most important details of the teachings themselves... All in under an hour! It is always good to be reminded of the truth, and a validation for me of my own experiences, that all true mystical teachings teach the same truth, regardless of their age or origins. That the truth exists within ourselves. Knowing that truth can only be experienced by each individuation (i.e. person). That ultimately we are all consciousness, The Self, or Source, and everything is interconnected as one. Liked and Subscribed. Namaste 🙏

The answer of the core to all religions is one simple thing. Divine unconditional love, love that always have been there, love that is in the background of everything, love flowing through us. All religions give rules to those love that if you do this and that you are loved, but that is the trap. A lot of people going full materialistic etc is just another response of the lack of love that they experience. The foundation to everything is that we are loved beyond time and space, so deeply loved and we have lost this truth. Let this idea flow through you and see how it transforms you, shapes you and let you be reborn. Even if this world around you does not show love at times, you are being loved so deeply and so much and the deeper you connect to this love, the more you can spread it as well. But this kind of love does require one thing, it is free of us to experience, but we lose our focus in it at times, because of our ego, whilst it loves our ego so much as well. Our ego sometimes does not want to see this love, especially if you walk around with trauma.

Heard myself say today (about this channel owner) "If this guy is not a teacher or a journalist that also has an exquisite taste for art, he might just be reduced as a KZreadr, sadly". Thanks for bringing material that crafts the soul into something more than a student, father, son, worker, roles and titles of any kind.

I repudiate overly academic expositions of these systems. They are robbed of passion, neutered of the "radical amazement" necessary to first comprehend, then to experience. This was exceptional, And being no noob to the material I was still captivated. Many thanks for this

When my father died I wasn’t sure how to deal with it as he wasn’t ever around my whole life. Sitting watching some lectures when i suddenly got some random idea “i need to make a psilocybin tea right now” so i ran to my room and grabbed 3.5 grams and brewed the tea. after consuming it a voice asked (what do you want) and willingly i asked for a bad trip this time and laughed and fell back into my bed and watched the roof wiggle for the next 5 hours. during my trip the voice started speaking through me “you’re a writhing mass” and than it spoke “you are going to die, and it is incurable” this I imagine would have been a “bad trip” to most but to me I didn’t take it literally like im terminal or something but I figured that it was something metaphorical like the ego death many spoke of on psychedelics. But what happened after i could put into words, it was like i could see for the first time. like ive been blind my whole life. I was suddenly understanding things I didn’t know about and things i did know but didn’t understand. i said it felt like a million epiphanies flooded into me and i could feel this feeling around me. One could call it the mania state of mind I didn’t even know what mania was until I experienced it from this trip. Of course I didn’t make any sense to anyone around me i became a new me over night but didn’t know how to handle this new me i couldn’t put into words what happened other than the things that voiced outta me durring the trip but this “gnosis” feels like the word for what happened to me i have been doing all kinds of research into what it is that is going on and hermetics seem to be a guide book to this state of being im in i just have no clue how to go about it really. Image the dr strange movie when the ancient one touched his third eye and how he came back from that just disoriented and confused that was me ive managed to reorient myself to a degree but i was untrained in my mind when i received the gift of gnosis and it put me into a madness of mania and none of my friends have had the same experience on mushrooms as i did so that adds to the confusion of my experience. i feel its partly due to me being fatherless and bereft of meaning when that father died without a goodbye, that a higher voice called to me to open a line between us with the altered state of consciousness i never asked for a name and am working on a set of questions to ask next time i enter gnosis if i ever have a chance to again.
