Good day Professor and congratulations on a very good and "not-inducing-to sleep" presentation. The second comment I would like to give by way of observation and clarification perhaps is that the first to really have sighted, and in a sense discovered for the Western Civilization the ocean on the other side of the Americas (The New Word), was really Vasco Núñez de Balboa on September 25, 1513, which he called Mar del Sur (South Sea). Though admittedly it was Magellan who named it the Pacific Ocean which, when he came across it was at that first time of his, the ocean was very calm.

Good day Professor. Thank you for your interesting presentation of the chronicle of Pigaffeta on the Archipelago which Villalobos in 1540s would later name the Philippines. The way you wrap it up and the important learnings one can gather from it is really admirable. May I just point some observations: 1. The use of the term "Filipinos" to refer to the natives in the said Archipelago that Pigaffeta and the Spaniards came across, is quite an "anachronism". The name Filipino was not yet in existence at the time of Lapu-Lapu, in the 16th century. It would be a term that would be embraced by the likes of Jose Rizal, much later in the succeeding centuries, specifically in the 1880s in their bid to assert their rights as the true Filipino citizens and not the Spaniards born in the Insular Philippines. As teachers in Philippine history, this has been a common mistake. At best though, we may refer to the said group of island peoples, as the natives of Mactan, or the native-ancestors of the Filipinos. I hope, I explained this well enough in the hope that our Filipino Youths of today shall know of how hard it was then for the heroes like Rizal, Graciano Lopez Jaena, Marcelo H. del Pilar, and the other propagandists in their time, to have asserted and won the right to be called Filipinos. Indeed it was a long and arduous struggle, and so we should value the name Filipinos and wear it as a badge of pride and symbol of courage.
