Philip and A.P. Answer Your Questions About Literary Analysis - Part One
Of use to readers, reviewers, and authors, this video is part one of answering viewer questions about Literary Analysis and Critical Reading.
Dr. Philip Chase, (@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy ) and I share what we’ve learned about analyzing stories over the years. During the series, we will cover various topics, including story versus plot, narrative perspective, characters, setting and world building, symbols, tone and style, and themes. It is our hope that the tools and techniques we discuss will add enjoyment to people’s storytelling journeys and help advance critical reading skills.
This is part one of answering viewer questions... because there were a lot of questions.

Can you believe that we had so many questions that we had to divide this response video into two parts?! Well, actually, it might really be because our answers are so long . . . But still! My thanks to you, Nemesis, for this fun collaboration!
One piece chase is the highest honour in the universe.
Thanks for the very helpful advice on all the questions! Starting with short stories sounds like a great idea-and a Neil Gaiman collection happens to be on my imminent TBR.
AP calling Phillip the algorithm manipulator when he's putting Philli-Franky in his thumbnails 🤔
"no skeletons under the desk"....
I’m helping my sister practice analysis because she’s starting her senior year this fall. I’ve been wondering how to help her practice analysis without forcing her to read entire books or longer/more complex articles. The short story idea is PERFECT. Thank you so much 😄.
Yea, I just sort of naturally pause and think while reading. When I do this I'm not necessarily consciously analyzing the text on any sort of deeper level (although sometimes I am), I'm just, you know, thinking about it. Or emotionally processing it, or just being like, "hey, that was really well written," or whatever. Personally I've always found it a bit strange not to do this at least a little bit, but I dunno.
I gasped right on cue with AP when Phillip admitted to marking his books. even with pencil that is unspeakable!
One piece is thematically rich for certain
I'm here because I'm a narratology nerd😆
lolol Philip One Piece Chase
So now that I've attended all these classes, are you guys giving out diplomas or certificates? 😁
AP copying Philip's background is just one more small step in claiming the title of Doctor Fantasy. Of course he doesn't look like Doctor Fantasy, but that's nothing a bit of latex can't fix... 😂
