No, this is epically beautiful, I think it’s the best duet ever
I can't deal with this song. It's so heartbreakingly beautiful. Like real life. But at least art can soothe. I highly recommend anyone to listen to the live version from his 1990 tour. On the CD "serious hits...Live!". On a particularly tough day, I grabbed a cd from my mum's collection and took it to my car (yeah old car lol). It helped me through a bad break-up a couple of years ago. I healed from that , largely thanks to crying out (on my drives) to this cd/song. I now moved away from my family and did not pack the cd but I found it on Spotify. Having a rough patch with my current partner and now listening again. Highly recommend listening to it without shuffle... loud. Love hurts.. good luck everyone

Personally I think that live version you’re talking about doesn’t sound half as good as this version. Whoever was singing with Phil in that live version didn’t sing it nearly as well as Marilyn Martin. Marilyn’s voice just gives goosebumps when she hits those high notes and draws them out the way she does. So much more emotion you can just feel it. Just my opinion tho.

The 1980's was a decade of extremely talented creators of fantastic music. To create something so moving takes soul, perspective and a depth of heart. The 80's was that for me. Rock, Pop, Metal, Country it was one big cascade of art and my life growing up.

Phil writes the best sad songs. I always said, he writes his best when he wallows in the mud. Time for him to get Knighted now.
All these comments on Phil…spot on. But the power of Marilyn’s “build that wall, build that WALL, and you make it stronger.” One of the most powerful ballad vocal verses of the 80’s.
[Verse 1] You called me from the room in your hotel All full of romance for someone that you met And telling me how sorry you were, leaving so soon And that you miss me sometimes when you're alone in your room Do i feel lonely too? [Chorus] You have no right to ask me how i feel You have no right to speak to me so kind I can't go on just holding on to time Now that we're living separate lives [Verse 2] Well i held on to let you go And if you lost your love for me, well you never let it show There was no way to compromise So now we're living (living) Separate lives [Bridge] Ooh, it's so typical, love leads to isolation So you build that wall (build that wall) Yes, you build that wall (build that wall) And you make it stronger [Chorus]

One of Phil Collins best songs. So well done!
underrated song rarely played in radio these days
RIP Gregory Hines
Always get goosebumps everytime I here this beautiful song
Masterpiece
I haven’t heard this song in years but today I randomly started singing it …..
Such a sad song, yet so beautiful at the same time. One of my absolute favorites of all time. I love when the song reaches it's emotional peak "so you build that wall, yes you build that wall, and you make it stronger."
Still listening in 2024!❤
MASTERPIECE
Gawd! After all these years this song reminds me of him and makes me cry. I've moved on for crying out loud! Why do I still cry?
