Born in 1983, now I am 40. Our mother is white and father is black. We did not grow up with the “perfect” upbringing, but that only made us stronger. Fast forward to the age of 8, my mother and stepfather gave us two choices (to go to our first concert ever) gensis or MC Hammer. Conflicted, for various reasons. My twin brother and I choose gensis. Some kids made fun of us, and I often thought to myself “I don’t belong” However, we loved it! And never ONCE thought otherwise it was a bad decision. Madison, Wisconsin… I will always remember it. Listening to this song decades later brings back so many good memories! All of their songs just felt different, and this song always hits home! When you know good music, you just know 🙏🏽

From another 40 80 man, I'm glad you stayed strong. And followed what heart. I personally never had a chance to go to any concerts till I was a adult. But I was blessed to some times watch MTV. And for me that was a concert in my eyes. Hope your next 40 yrs are a great experience.

Collins has always had his critics...been laughed at and the butt of many jokes. Talent is talent...Phil, as with all of the band members of Genesis, were awesome in their time...musicianship of the very best kind......it's been far too long since I've played this deeply moving song. Many only recall the Gabriel days...I've seen both, many, many times. Both have their merits. Phil made the band explode internationally, and Peter did his own great things. Superb stuff..well posted!

+Lindsay Buttery I'm gonna be honest, I actually think Peter Gabriel is overrated. Now don't get me wrong, I will ALWAYS love Peter, and I have absolutely NOTHING against him as a performer. However, from my point of view, I feel that Phil's critics have built Peter up too much, to the point where I can't really see what all the hype is about.

I agree with you. I love Collins' stuff with Genesis and his solo hits, wow! I think this is one of my two favorite songs and "Land of Confusion," is my favorite video. (The latter because of the political idiocy that is seen in the video, yet very relevant in recent years, the former because it calms me down at times.) My favorite Genesis track, by the way, is "Follow You, Follow Me." I also love Peter Gabriel's solo songs, "Sledgehammer," and "In Your Eyes," and I enjoy Mike and the Mechanics' "Silent Running," yet I should look more into some of the band's other hits and more Peter Gabriel songs.

Real Lyrics: I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch is the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive, affirmative, uh, as anything I've heard in rock. When we have millions of "moments" in a lifetime and just a few beats of one song can instantly transport you to one of those "moments" even if it was 35 years ago, well, THAT'S what a great song can do. ❤

In too deep is beautiful song... Thank you Phil Collins ❤
Such a moving song!! ❤😍
Phil Collins voice cannot be replicated by anyone. Man was one of a kind, best thing Genesis did in terms of making it big and commercial. One of the most successful artists in history, even rappers have wanted to and have worked with him. Disney was obsessed with the man, he did music for almost all movies in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Definitely one of a kind.

Is one of a kind. Phil's still not too shabby for a man in his early 70s. It's a shame about his back issues though.
"In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock." .Patrick Bateman🎥 American Psycho(2000)

@@theextreme7134 Patrick Bateman: Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Some songs take you back to that special place and time you thought would never end. I clearly remember the first time I heard this. My best friend and sister (R.I.P) said ... "Check this out!" and she popped in Genesis' "Land of Confusion" cassette and played this song for me. I remember I was a little high, not too much. I had just sparked up a joint, and we were in our backyard waiting on the rest of our buddies to show up. My parents had just left for the evening and we were gonna BBQ and chill by the pool. It's weird how I can still remember every detail of that day by memory. Some songs have that effect on us I guess. It was the 80s and a great time to be a kid in school, and most of all the music was incredible. My sister passed away in 2017 (cancer) she was only 48, and here I am, grateful to still be here, thanks to God of course. Also thankful to KZread that I'm able to look back with all this great music. Peace to all of you ✌
They don't make music this good anymore.
All this time, I still remember everything you said...there's so much you promised, how could I ever forget ♡ I almost believed you...
