Pheasant Hunt with Traditional Bow | 16 SLOW-MO SHOTS & THE GREATEST MISSES in Bowhunting (ONE HIT)

Спорт

Bowhunting for pheasants isn't easy, but it's a lot of fun. Clay Newcomb took his traditional bow to hunt pheasant in Kansas in January of 2020. You'll see fifteen of the greatest bowhunting misses of all time and one of the greatest hits. You can check out the Bear Hunting Magazine podcast to hear all the details of the hunt, including gear, tactics and how the hunt really went down. Cameraman Brent Reaves of Reckless Drift Media filmed the hunt and joined Clay on the podcast. They were hunting with Upland Inn Hunts in Greensburg, Kansas. They had lots of opportunity at wild pheasants. DON'T BE AFRAID TO MISS!

Respect! That is tough. I've shot at "bow birds" or flying foam disc's with my recurve and trying to shoot a flying target with a traditional bow is a whole new challenge!

This was GREAT Clay. Thanks for posting. It looks easier in slow motion, ha. Some of those misses were SO CLOSE.. People that can't/don't/won't shoot traditional may never understand how much fun they are missing out on. Even just walking thru the woods shooting tough arrows that weigh 600 grains with a rubber blunt at 150 fps at stumps, clumps of grass, or a pile of leaves, is crazy fun. Not possible shooting light arrows at 300 fps with compound. Traditional archer is where the art of lobbing comes into play and 20 yards shots are considered long distance. Take up the challenge, will never regret.

Some very close misses for sure. gotta love it! I just bought a super nice Kodiak Hunter today at a pawn shop for $87. it is like new for a 50 plus old bow and boy is it a shooter. It has to be the best bow that I have ever shot. Never dreamed of finding one much a beautiful one like this at that price. I used to practice on moving targets, had some tennis ball that hung from a two foot piece of 2x4 that was on pulleys that ran down hill from a two story root top to the ground on a cable. I used blunts and the red plastic thumpers. Shot a lot of moving fish in water too. also took out a few running squirrels with flu flu s. keep at it Clay, fun is fun!

Another great hunt Clay here in my home state. Glad to see you make good memories, this hunt is definitely on my list! I know the 125 size didn’t work out great, but I wonder if the smaller sized 100gr would fair any better. Maybe just allowing a small bit of penetration and more shock.

To be fair, bowhunting is dangerous to the game if the hunter isn't skilled enough, which is a bit more of a problem than for rifle hunters, and the land that you can hunt on is limited far more than in the US, like 5-10 acre lots. You can't take the risk of the animal fleeing and causing damage by running into traffic or into another guy's plot.

  • @brian280453

@@3asianassassin not sure you’ve ever been to the uk, but the land I shoot over ranges from 200 to 2000 acres. Bow hunting was only banned here because of a few morons shooting game with target points and leaving them to die a lingering death from gangrene. I used to bow hunt with a lot of success (using the correct heads) before the ban and have used .243 and .308 on deer and fox since the ban on bows.

@@3asianassassin if someone (proficient) wanted to poach with a bow it would be incredibly easy, I have taken friends out with their cameras and placed them on a game trail where I know deer will be, and they have been within 10 to 20 yards from the deer, when I’ve shown non hunters the pictures they think a telephoto lens was used. For such a crowded little island as ours, we still have some unspoilt places.

I was thinking it was your shooting making the arrows wobble when close to the bird but it was the wind created by its wings.🤗Tough shooting. Also you have an aggressive recurve that can make accurate on the wing shots difficult. The only thing I have hit on the wing is a rubber ball with a laminated longbow.
