Good luck to pharmacists, the field just keeps getting more and more brutal.

They make good money though, like really good. Lol, my cousin got into pharmacy school this year, and she was like, "im going to be richer than you." I laughed at her, not with this job market.

I work for Wags and they are cutting lots of hours. The working condition is almost unbearable because of having to do more with less. I heard some pharmacists in my district (NYC) are getting around 20 to 30 hours a week.

It’s very hard in retail right now. There are opportunities outside of retail. It might not be what you’re used to but if you’re willing to leap, it can be a learning experience to something more optimal for you.

Work for the three letter pharmacy. From what I can tell they are cutting hours from target stores and handing roughly 70 hours to each store who is going to be doing covid and flu testing. The problem is our particular district is horrible about new hires and training so now the company is hiring lots of front store employees to cross train them to work pharmacy registers as needed for each pharmacy.

I work in a grocery store as the PIC and we just had both our pharmacist and tech hours cut drastically. Yet we are being told there is going to be a 40% increase in flu shots this year. I am now down to 38h/w while my staff pharmacist is maxed out ar 32h/w with a ratio of one tech to one pharmacist working 13 hour shifts. It's a nightmare. I want out of retail. What other sectors of pharmacy are worth looking into?

I’m considering pharmacy but also other options such as physician and PA because of the job market. Some say the profession is dying, and others say it is evolving. Is there a good website/source with accurate stats that could help me determine whether or not it’s worth it?

Don't go into Pharmacy unless you know you can get a job right after graduating or you're going into the pharmaceutical industry. Trust me, not worth all the work and debt

BLS.gov, ASHP and APhA will have statistics. The latter two are pharmacy organizations. The profession is doing both. There are pharmacists moving or transitioning out of the field, pharmacists transitioning our but still working PRN/part time (a few shifts a month). I currently hold two jobs with increase and decrease in hours on a quarterly basis.

Haha Bob, if you look at the majority of my videos I recommend not going into Pharmacy Anymore. I am pretty sure I have decreased application rates this past year and the pharmacy schools hate me. Also if you watched this whole video you would know that I said the increase in job hours are likely temporary. I am also not sure why current pharmacists are upset with my videos, because it is likely I saved them from a future layoff or reduction in hours or decrease in pay.

@@PaulTranPharmacist Pacific University in Oregon is switching from a block system to a traditional system. Too many students were failing their block exams and the school attempted to pass students who failed by giving them answers to the exam questions/the same exams on re-exam day. Many students dropped out during their P1 year after the first 3-4 months or were let go as per the school's block schedule policy because of the high attrition rate. This caused the program to lose money for the P2 and P3 years because of the empty seats. The school realized they needed to keep as many bodies in their sits to keep the tuition money. So they are switching over to the traditional system to avoid having to kick out students with multiple failed exams, as required by the block system. These are some dirty tactics you may be interested in when looking at what other schools are doing to stay afloat as this bubble bursts. EDIT: The application process has even been extended longer because schools are struggling to fill the seat quotas.
