The most damage done to my golf swing was from my first teacher. She was inexplicably a well-known instructor, but she was horrible. She had next to no knowledge of how golf mechanics work, and she let me develop so many bad habits that it killed my swing forever. In my younger days, I could hack it around and ended up with a 3 handicap. But, the damage was done. As I aged, it all fell apart.

I 100% relate to this. I learned from a pro who was a great player but not a good teacher. As a casual golfer who started late but had some athletic ability, I managed to get down to a 9 hcp. And then it started falling apart with age. I break 90 infrequently these days.

That's why I NEVER took lessons. I feel your pain. But I know you still enjoy the game. You can get it around, I'm sure, but it's never the same.

Yes. You can get it back though!! I went all over the handicap index from +1 to a -16 and now down to -8.5 in the space of 4 years! At my best I had a super weak left hand grip with a high right elbow, cupped left wrist, very light grip pressure, A lot of wrist at the top, came down slightly over the top but with all these "" swing flaws could swing in rhythm, hit very straight and manage my distance control extremely well from 60 degree to 7 iron.I have tried almost every swing technique you can imagine and the only one I had any success with was Mike Austins swing. Played a few rounds under par after only 3 days of practice. Gravity golf worked well. But the worst thing was to try and stay centered like the magazines advocated a long time. I could still hit it straight but had many lower back issues and a big loss of power because this move can inhibit your turn vastly. My " unqualified advice for you would be look at these tests Mike Adams has for how your body moves. Figure out which forces you need to utilize more or less (vertical, rotational, lateral)Also when you go to the range try all different setups and matchup from grip, stance width, balance, knee flex, etc.. you know all the variables. Also make sure you are relaxed and can make an athletic motion! To me this is #1. Sure my swing looks like Freddys now but who cares right! Lol! Good luck.

it's based on the way his body naturally moves. For some people, when the get the trail hand more on top, the club face stays quiet going through, and for others, when they have their hand underneath the club more, it stays quiet. The stability of the club face is tied directly to the way your trail arm moves and thus needs to have the proper grip to match its movement. You should look up Mike Adams and Terry Rowles and try the tests for yourself to see what setup, grip, etc. matches the way your body naturally moves. I took my son (high school golfer) to see one of his disciples. Once he measured him and ran all the tests, without any instruction, my son started bombing the ball with a tight draw versus the push fade he showed up with. I've in turn measured and tested, and have been so much more consistent after finding my match up. Hope this helps!

Aaron has gone from Stack and tilt to everything in between... like every hack in golf. Is this the secret to his success... just the opposite More neurons are concentrated in our face and hands than any other body part. Ref homunculus Of course under pressure golfers will pull and pull/hook due to dominance of right hand(right hand swingers) and flight or fight reaction, under stress. Fellow Australian Gerry Hogan figured this out 40 years ago. Simple conscious control of the dominant hand from top of BS is all that is needed. Keep the right palm facing the sky, through impact(supination as stated by Ben Hogan)

Ben Hogan was a hooker and converted his swing to be a slicer. Probably the worst advice to give anybody to teach the Hogan way
