so many errors though, she could've won it earlier if not for those. hope she cuts on those else she doesn't have a chance against sabalenka and swiatek when the time comes

I love that the game ends in hugs, it's so comforting and that it brings positivity to this beautiful sport. IMHO!

Agree with you. Petra has always been a lady and respectful but so is Jessica, thinking about a good girl she is , evermore. The embrace at the end shows good intentions from both. It should be like this in every game as you say, but not every player is like them. Maybe these ladies bring bright this positive vibes and make it mainstream, tennis should be like that. Specially on the women side i think

She certainly is! I remember her gracious reaction at the net with Maria Sakkari in Miami in 2021 after losing, which would have been tough having had SIX match points! I knew then Jessica Pegula was a class act.

Jess is a nice kid, and as you point out, a class act. Somewhat surprising since she was born with a platinum spoon in her mouth, the daughter of a billionaire. Usually, kids of the super rich tend to be brats and self centered jerks who think they're better than others, but you never get that vibe from Pegula. Heck, it might be the one thing holding her back a little, as it must be hard to be hungry for those first place checks when even the ones for 7 figures are practically meaningless for her economically. The popular cliche for tennis players is saying that the money doesn't matter, that it's the prestige of the title that's important, and most of them are lying when they say it, but with Pegula, that's absolutely true.

And when she's not on, she's a hot mess. Glad she won, but she just has too many stretches in too many matches where she's a mess of unforced errors, double faults, and low 1st Service %. That's basically been for career for about nine years.

@@kevinlakeman5043 Why criticise? We all know how many errors Kvitova can make in matches, but why be so negative and talk about her weaknesses after such an impressive match? She’s just won a match where, at 33, almost 10 years after her last slam win, she showed that she is still capable of displaying all of her best qualities as a player. That in itself is quite special.

Pegula saying that can someone just end the match gives a good laugh for them both. They both shown good sprotsmanship which makes me love them so much.

The way Petra kept her initial celebration short so that when she turned around to greet Pegula at the net she wouldn’t seem obnoxious ❤ love her

Petra is one of the last remaining from what I consider the great era of womens tennis -with both Williams sisters playing, Wozniaki, Radwanska, Li Na, Kerber, Clijsters - players who had more to their game than just hard hitting from the baseline.

I will always be happy everytime Petra wins a match. She's very likeable.

Incredibly dumb comment. She's far too wildly inconsistent for that, with 3-4 game stretches of just unforced errors and poor serving.

At her best i think Petra could have 8-10. But consistency and mental strength have often been her weaknesses and those are both key components to taking the slams. She has all the right shots. The groundstrokes and serves are already pretty amazing.

Petra Kvitova proved why she is a Grand Slam champion. Her fighting spirit was absolutely unreal. So many times it looked like that she will lose this match, but she pulled through anyway. What an ultimate fighter she is. Saving 4mps against as good and as consistent opponent as Pegula is simply unreal. What courage and bravery Petra Kvitova shown in this match. Pegula too played great, but Kvitova was bit better in the end. She never gave up despite all the odds. Petra Kvitova is such an amazing tennis player. I hope that she at least gets to the Final of this tournament. I loved how Kvitova hugged Pegula and Pegula's smile at the end of the match. What a great sportsmanship these two ladies have. They both are so incredibly nice. Congratulations Kvitova on winning this match.

Pegula needed more power on the 3rd set tiebreak, I think, Kvi was gifting many points to her, but overall was a great match

Damn, Kvitova had nerves to play those big shots during the toughest moments. Would have been a pity had Pegula won this who played pretty basic, defensive points in the third set. What a match, though. Well done, Kvitova. That was one for the books.
