Absolutely agree, D J. Kvitova is the best female grass court player I've seen, and in that second final she played perfect grass court tennis. Sublime. Just wish she had a bit more of that constant burning desire to win, like Rafa, for example. Sometimes I feel she is content to rest on her laurels, a waste of her great gifts, imo.

Yes, the final against Bouchard was one of the very best and most dominant Wimbledon final performances I have ever seen. It is a shame Kvitova is often unable to bring her A-game, because when she does, she is literally unplayable, even for the best players. It was a real privilege watching her dismantle Bouchard in 2014. Some people complained that the final was too one-sided, but I just enjoyed watching perfection for a short 55 minute spell.

Your so correct. Petra great in both finals.

With her all-round game Kvitova should have had more Grand Slams.. just a couple GS's don't do justice to her talent !!

Yes the attact on Petra was awful and we should admire the way she has fought back to still be a very good player and on her day still up there with the greats. Just hope she can win one more Grand Slam.

I can't believe it was over a decade ago. I'm getting old lol.

Less than one week after this victory I got to meet Petra and get her autograph and photos at a signing event she did at the Nike store in Prague. All of the stories are true. She is as sweet and charming in person as you see her on TV. The next day Petra and I appeared together in a color photo in Blesk newspaper. I still have it. That was a shocker! On another day in Prague years later I saw Petra with her than very young boyfriend and she looked extremely sad, on the verge of crying. They were in the middle of relationship troubles and soon broke up later. Needless to say, I didn't bother them. I felt so sad for her.

Serena grunts, Vika grunts, many other WTA and ATP players grunt, yet it's always Maria the commentators discussed. Grunting actually helps players exhale at the right time, thus improving their game and stamina. So no, I don't think it should be banned. Racket abuse, on the other hand...

Was she? Maria won Wimbledon in 2004 against Serena and made SFs in 2005, 2006 and 2015 where she lost to eventual champions - Venus, Mauresmo and Serena. Back then Maria was better grass player than Kvitova but her game detoriated and changed after shoulder surgery and grass became the worst surface for Sharapova. But nevermind, she could snatch slam on every surface, while Petra couldnt.

Petra has only 2 WIM slams (from such a good grass player, you would expect more) while Maria has 1 WIM slam and 1 final and 3 semifinals...Maria is better player than Petra on every surface,

Then Maria got her revenge months later and for a few years from 2012-2016 during her later prime, Sharapova owned Kvitova on the court. Mentally Petra became her pet and muse, especially after RG2012

Then Maria returned from her suspension and showed true courage in fighting to play the game she loves and give back to tennis and its fans. If Kvitova is to be remembered as a legend, so to is Sharapova who really helped to pave the way for success from Eastern European women in this great sport. Cheers to both, but as Maria is my eternal favorite player of all time regardless of gender, game set match Sharapova.

It doesn’t matter, she was past her prime, but she was still that fighter I grew up loving. No matter what the world hurls at her, she is still Maria Sharapova, a winner in the sport and in life. I wish her all the best in her next big challenge. She’s gonna do great.

Astonishing how many easy second serve returns Maria stuck in the net. The standard of play - apart from Petra's sledgehammer forehands - was pretty ordinary.

Masha doesn't need the slam again, she needs our recognition, applause. Unfortunately, she retired already. 😩😩 I don't need her to win more, but I always want to see her in court. ❤️😭

I don´t want to hear your Masha on the court anymore.

This reminds me of how much I hated Sharapova's supersonic grunts and gamesmanship. So happy the nice and quiet Kvitova won. Kvitova only shouts after a good point to motivate herself,. not during an exchange where it disturbs the other player.

Oh, come on. Not only she has 2 GS, but also 26 more titles including Premier mandatory, Elite Trophy and WTA finals :) her career is incredibly succesful! She is a playing legend :)

Petra is my favourite, unplayable at her best, but hits flat and that means some bad days.

I really wanted Maria to win this match she should have won her 2nd Wimbledon Singles title.

Ultimately her game was too one-dimensional: she never had a Plan B, nevermind a Plan C. She played every point, in every game, in every set, in every match in almost exactly the same way. No variety in her game. She encompassed the big problem with modern tennis: endless baseline grinders with almost no variety in styles of play.

@@martydav9475 Still, for all the criticism she got for being one-dimensional, she did have fantastic drop shots, drive volleys and lobs. She achieved so much with a very technically limited and flawed game, which I think is a testament to her fighting spirit and work ethic.

Maria was not playing bad, she had BPs and could have won in two sets, it was close match. But Sharapova won career slam and beat Petra many times since then, so I am ok with that.

Great observation Lindsey was very good on Gras because of her serve and groundstroke power that could hide her movement

Her movement is still a big reason why she isn't winning matches.

Both are great. Must be tough to have won it and now being the loser.
