Petra Klingler's Amazing Perseverance | Beta Break Ep.13
Спорт
Petra Klingler: / petra_klingler
Petra Klingler is a Bouldering World Cup champion and has done well in Lead and Ice climbing competitions as well. She has always been a powerful and creative climber but perhaps the most amazing performance she had wasn't when she was Bouldering or Lead climbing, but rather when she was at an Ice Climbing World Cup.

Gabriela's last name is Schiess, not Scheiss. It might not make much of a difference in English, but believe me, the latter is not a name you'd want to have in a German-speaking country.

I love how you make these videos. They're not overly dramatic or filled with unnecessary things. It's just plain and simple, easy to understand for everyone once you take us through the needed knowledge. Keep it up!
Beyond her ability to climb through pain, I love how she adapts her technique to avoid pushing off-axis. Her body awareness, to make the most of her it even in a dysfunctional state while limiting further injury (+ while in pain), is really amazing!

What the hell??? I got the same knee injury, and what happened to me is that I simply dropped from the wall, and I had so much pain that I couldn't even ask for help, I couldn't speak! That was the most painful experience in my life. She probably had a more severe injury than mine (because of her shoe stuck in the wall hence not releasing the weight that's on her knee), probably much more pain (depends how her kneecap moved), and she continued... I'm astonished. I couldn't move nor speak, she made moves at competition level. When watching the video clip, I imagined the pain, as I know what it was like... I'm sweating so much right now...
Damn.

Everyone is blown away (for good reason) at her willpower to continue but I don't think it's too surprising. What else are you going to do halfway to a summit? Going down may not be an option. I think that's what got her through - knowing in a real climb, she may not have the choice.

Beta is climbing jargon that designates information about a climb.[1][2] The complexity of beta can range from a small hint about a difficult section to a step-by-step instruction of the entire climb.[1][3] In rock climbing this may include information about a climb's difficulty, crux, style, length, quality of rock, ease to protect, required equipment, and specific information about hand or foot holds. For mountaineering, beta may include information about the length and difficulty of the approach, availability of water on the climb and the approach, ease of exiting the route before completing it, descent information, perhaps even useful logistic information for climbs in foreign countries.[citation needed] Sometimes a beta is also drawn, in the form of a beta-map.[4][5] It is common for climbers to have different beta for the same climb. In other words, more than one possible solution that can get the climber to the top. These can vary in terms of difficulty. It is not uncommon for climbs to get downgraded in their difficulty rating once easier beta is discovered.[6]
Don't forget that time she climbed while having a partially torn elbow tendon!
