Truck fans rejoice, I’m finally back to working on LBL … this time I lean into getting the truck ready for primer and even though it doesn’t look like much, there’s plenty of nooks and crannies that need to be sanded, prepped and cleaned up but like I always say, any progress is progress. Can’t wait to see this truck in metallic blue…

    Good morning, Mark. I work in the air compressor industry. If you pipe the air filters outside, it will make the compressor a lot Quieter. It'll also keep it from sucking in paint and dust. Love watching your channel.

    Indeed, I have a big upright Tecalemit compressor built in 1981,it resided in the corner of the workshop for years and required a bit of attention from time to time,cleaning filters, the occasional snapped reed valve from being clogged with all manner of stuff that made it past the filter,a new motor because the old one had sucked in airborne dust,grit and metal from the workshop. For the last fifteen years it's been in a dedicated brick shed outside,and hasn't seen much attention since.

    I always use a shop vac with a brush attachment when bodyworking to keep the dust out of the air and not end up on everything in the shop. It still gets around a bit but way less than blowing it everywhere. Look forward to seeing the primer go on.

    When the time comes for graphics, I really think it would be cool to continue the stripes that were on the hood when it was white. I just thought I'd put that out into the universe. What ever you decide it's your rig, I'm sure it'll be awesome nonetheless

    In another tip, get rid of the pneumatic inline sander on rounded surfaces, you can actually see 1/3 of that bar in contact with the surface causing ripples in the bondo. I'm not criticizing I'm trying to help. Get flexible long blocks

    Mark, my 13 year old son has a little business making hardwood cutting boards and cheese boards. Sanding them smooth definitely takes time and patience but it's the same principle as body work: the hand is ultimately the best way of determining whether the board is properly flat or not. He hasn't got a jointer or thicknesser yet, so it's all hand sanding using a belt sander and orbital. Slow and steady like always!

    Looking Good Mark… A suggestion for your Makeshift Sanding/Paint booth, get an Exhaust Fan installed on the back wall. Crack the bottom of the Garage door and inch or two to draw fresh air in, or if the wind isn’t cooperating, prop open the Man door or crack a window. Just a thought… We do that with our shop in the Winter time when we have to run a Truck inside.

    Hey Mark, you amze me about your hard work and dedication. You just can't be afraid and do it. I also would suggest looking into a rotary screw compressor. They are really quiet and produce a lot of air. The down sides I know of is they are expensive. But if you can find one for a good deal they are awesome. Keep up the hard work and I enjoy watching what is coming up next in your videos.

    Mr Mark, you need a pressure regulator on your air tools. It sounds to me that you're running them full pressure. You don't need that. You're actually defeating the cutting ability of the sanding disk by running it so fast. Drop the pressure down to at or under 90 at the tool. Air tools run best with cfm not high pressure.

  • @robertlemoi7919

    Mark. The reason for your difficulty in finishing your plastic is you are using the air file and D.A. You have to use a finish board and sanding block. The air file will jump a lot as well as the D.A. Also the finish paper I use is 80 grit. The primer will fill in the deep scratches as well as alight coat of glaze. Then you can go to a lighter grit of paper.

  • @archstanton9206
    @archstanton9206Ай бұрын

    The old DA sander is pretty much indispensable. Mark you might find it worth the time to pour a little pad out behind your shop and build a compressor shed. You can vent and insulate it to where it will be fine all year. (I live in snow country too) I did this about 10 years ago when I built my "New" shop. It frees up space in the work area and gets the danged racket out of the building. A weekend project is all it takes. Invest in a good water separator/oil remover set up as well, if ya haven't already done so.

    You shoulda bought a Mirka electric they're expensive but worth it (I've had mine for six years still going strong love it) works better than the pneumatic, quieter and more energy efficient your not constantly running a 3-5 hp compressor motor to run a little sander. Let me guess your compressor never shuts off while your sanding? Waisting money.

    The high end truck body shops remove the huck bolts for bodywork and paint and they pre paint the new huck bolts before installing them. With the hucks removed you can actually body work panels flat. instead of using regular cheap bondo you would be better off using products from evercoat or smart.
