Peter Roselle Get the HOW Out of Here (1 Kings

The title comes from a saying by Bishop Joseph Garlington. In 1 Kings 17 we read of the widow of Zarephath who was about to cook her last meal before starving from a drought that was gripping the country. Elijah prophesied to her that she would have more than enough to eat until the drought was over. She did not know How God was going to do it so she decided to get the HOW out of her thinking and just trust God through the prophet. Quotes: “Ahab did more to provoke the anger of the Lord than any of the other kings of Israel before him. Elijah confronts the wicked King Ahab and his evil wife Jezebel. He prophesies that it will not rain, knowing it would create a drought. Christians need to live a prophetic lifestyle. We need to hear the voice of the Lord, like the sons of Issachar (1 Chronicles 12:32), who knew the signs and the times and knew what Israel should do.”
Be blessed.
Remember: you have been “blessed to be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2)

1 Kings 17
14 For this is what the Lord,
the God of Israel, says:
There will always be flour and olive
oil left in your containers until
the time when the Lord sends
rain and the crops grow again!”
15 So she did as Elijah said,
and she and Elijah and her family
continued to eat for many days.
16 There was always enough flour and
olive oil left in the containers, just
as the Lord had promised through Elijah.
Now you would need a lot of faith to believe Elijah
if you only have enough for one meal.
She had to have enough faith to ignore
what she could see in the natural and say,
“The man of God said then I'm always
going to have enough. I don't know HOW
I'm going to have enough, but I'm getting
the HOW out of here.
I am going to believe the prophet.
1 Kings 17
1 Now Elijah… told King Ahab, “As surely as the Lord,
the God of Israel, lives - the God I serve - there will be
no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!”
Elijah confronts the wicked King Ahab and his evil wife Jezebel.
He prophesies that it will not rain, knowing it would create a drought.
1 Kings 17
2-3 Then the Lord said to Elijah,
“Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it
enters the Jordan River.
4 Drink from the brook and eat what the
ravens bring you, for I have commanded them
to bring you food.”
How many of you would have
been thrilled about that word?
Eat what the Ravens bring me? What?
To our natural mind it sounds ridiculous, right?
But God loves this man so much he provides a way of escape.
1 Kings 17
5 So Elijah did as the Lord told him
and camped beside Kerith Brook,
east of the Jordan.
James 5:17-18
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed
earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the
land for three years and six months. And he prayed again,
and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
That is convicting right? If he is a man just like me, would
I have the faith to wait for ravens to bring me food?
If not, I better make some changes in my life.
When you believe a word from God it's going to look silly to
other people who don’t know the Lord.
1 Kings 17
6-7 The ravens brought him bread
and meat each morning and evening,
and he drank from the brook.
But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall
anywhere in the land.
8-9 Then the Lord said to Elijah,
“Go and live in the village of Zarephath,
near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.”
10 So he went to Zarephath.
He's not surprised that the brook runs dry.
He's the one that called for the drought!
He knew while he was at the brook that it would
be temporary, but he trusted God for the next step.
When you know how to hear God’s voice you don’t
need to play all the “What if?” games.
You know when the time comes to move you will get
your marching orders from the Lord.
It’s like that saying, “I may not know what my
future holds, but I know who holds my future.”
