How long do you think a clear blend will last if it’s done right

Difficult to give a precise answer as it depends on many things such as how the process was done, the substrate beneath and the climate conditions that the blend is exposed to.

Hi and thanks for your comment. The purpose of the video was to show how to do this when for practical or economic reasons painting a whole part is not possible.

The secret lies in preparing the blend area well in advance and keeping oversppray to a minimum as we try to show in the video. The blending thinner we use here is designed to be used as is and should be applied in sevral light coats to gently reduce the overspray. Use low pressure and reduced fluid flow. Best practice is to dry the blend egdge further with IR after normal force drying or leave overnight to ensure it's fully cured before starting to polish. Use a fine/medium compound to polish and be sure taht the rotation of the polishing machine goes in the direction of the clear to the blend and not against it.

Thanks for your reply. From your description I think you are using too high air pressure when applying the blending thinner. The thinner is of course low in viscosity and excess air pressure will cause it to separate on the surface and give an uneven appearance. Normally I reduce my pressure down to around 0.8 - 1 bar and I reduce fluid flow to prevent overloading. Please also refer to the following TDS’s for information on our blending thinners. The choice of which you use will be dependant on the clearcoat you are using: - sdstds.shcolor.info/Doc/TDS/EN/EN%201036A.pdf sdstds.shcolor.info/Doc/TDS/EN/EN%201070A.pdf For Non VOC compliant clears we also have the following product: - sdstds.shcolor.info/Doc/TDS/EN/EN%201031A.pdf

Soo much easier to clear the whole sail panel. Clear blends like this won't last long in a sunny climate. Also no warranty on this type of repair.

Hi, in principle we would agree that it is beasier to apply clear to the complete rail. The purpose of the video though is to show how to blend if and when the situation arises i.e. where a pillar goes into the roof with no break. In some markets around the world refinishers do not always have the possibility to apply clear to the whole panel.

You spend more time=momey polishing vs painting the the entire rail

In general I would agree with you but the purpose of the video was to show how to do this when for practical or economic reasons painting a whole part is not possible.
